[Earth II] Kreynoria Phasing Out Oil

Kreynoria is initiating a program to completely phase oil, as well as coal and natural gas, out of its infrastructure. We believe that fossil fuels are obsolete and an ecohazard. World supplies are dwindling and growing increasingly expensive, and coalitions such as the MESC are attempting to dominate the world market. The following measures have been taken to eliminate fossil fuels from Kreynoria:

1) All coal, oil, and gas power plants (as well as nuclear plants) have been shut down and replaced with renewable plants (solar, hydroelectric, wind, geothermal, tidal, and lightning).
2) Gasoline-powered vehicles are being either upgraded with hydrogen fuel cells or retired and replaced by such vehicles.
3) We shall still use petroleum in the manufacture of plastics and petrochemicals, but encourage conservation of their use.
4) Coal has been banned as an energy source. Coal mining, which poses a serious hazard to the miners and the environment, has been banned.
5) Synthetic rubber using oil in its manufacture has been banned.

The Empire of Cotland would like to purchase any excess oil that Kreynoria is willing to sell. We await a quick and positive response.

Regards,
Imperial Government of Cotland

The Holy Empire of Kreynoria will gladly sell the oil to the Empire of Cotland.

We thank you, and hope to start traffic of oil tankers between Kreynoria and Cotland as soon as possible.

OOC: You know Krey, you should post this on the main thread to get it in the RPs.

In light of the announcement of the Kreynorian government, the Empire of Layarteb will begin a similar plan. Whilst most of the power in the EOL comes from nuclear power, the second highest power source is oil. Nuclear power accounts for 40% of power in the Empire whilst oil accounts for 25%. The remaining 35% of power comes from solar, wind, geothermal, and hydroelectric powerstations. Vast amounts of private homes and housing projects use solar power for personal power. Incentives are given to those citizens who use solar power as a means of their main household energy.

In efforts to reduce the dependency on oil, the Empire of Layarteb will be experimenting with geothermal powerplants as well as new, experimental designs for nuclear powerplants. These include pebblebed reactors. Scientists will initiate a further increase in the fusion program but a reactor is still well over 50 years away.

Other possibilities include using microwave power. This advanced design would place a large satellite in orbit with massive solar collection panels. The goal would be to absorb vast amounts of unfiltered solar energy and transmit it down to a substation on the surface in a highly concentrated form. The project, highly advanced and costly, has raised significant safety issues and concerns and is currently only an experimental theory.

At current, in Iceland 99% of the power supplied comes from geothermal and hydroelectric power. The remaining 1% is wind power. Similar ideals are likened elsewhere in the Empire but conditions vary by location. Solar power in Ynoga and South Eastern Virginia is much more likely than geothermal or wind power.
