Civil War OOC/Signup Thread
For it's entire history, Malkyer has been a peaceful and unified nation. Though it makes for a fairly simple political element to my RPs (as everyone is more or less loyal to the Monarchy), this has gotten boring. Therefore, I've decided that it's about time for civil war to tear Malkyer apart. Oh boy.
I've given a little thought to a basic plot, though any comments or helpful critique is welcome.
Backstory:
The Emperor, Dayan, and his wife Tatiana have three sons, fraternal twins Alexei and Isaac (aged nineteen) and Matthew (aged seventeen). Alexei, being the oldest twin by almost fifteen minutes, has been named the Heir Apparent to the Throne. Publicly, Isaac and Matthew have accepted this, and support their brother, as well as their parents. However, in secret this fact has always chafed Isaac. He hates Alexei because he wants the throne for himself, and he lusts after the power it promises. Along with several disgruntled Nobles and other powerful families, he begins to form a great conspiracy to remove his older brother from the picture, and seize power for himself. If he succeeds, he plans to have Alexei killed in an "accident," and his parents and younger brother sent to live in exile in South Africa, far from the heart of Commonwealth life.
Part I: Foundations
Here, Isaac and his allies will begin to establish connections with Nations X and Y [see below; "Enemies"], promising them lavish rewards in exchange for aiding his effort at a coup d'etat. The other nations may send aid to Isaac, in the form of intelligence agents or some other covert means. Isaac's supporters begin to covertly weaken the Royal Armed Forces' ability to react to a large-scale attack.
Part II: To Arms
The Rebels make their first open moves, and Isaac officially declares himself Emperor. The Rebellion is intitally quite small, but grows after several successful actions against the Loyalists. Soon, Nations X and Y declare their support for the Rebels, and send whatever forces they promised Isaac. This will be the longest part of the RP, as it will consist of most of the battles. Times are looking grim for the Loyalists and their allies, though in their moment of greatest need a tragedy will occur that will unify them and steel their resolve to win. The balance tips in favor of the Loyalists.
Part III: Annihilation
As the fighting winds down, the Royal Intelligence Agency begins to eliminate the upper echelons of Isaac's power structure. The Rebellion is for the most part put down, and for the first time in history, it is rumored that Malkyeri soldiers are guilty of crimes against captured Rebel and foreign fighters, particularly officers. Isaac and several of his top lieutenants escape into hiding, and vast resources are poured into the search.
Part IV: Reconciliations
When the last Rebels are rounded up and the last foreign soldiers beaten back, an uneasy peace settles across the Commonwealth. Though most Rebels and their supporters are offered amensty in exchange for fighting against the foreign troops and for informations leading to the capture of Isaac, many Loyalists are distrustful of anyone who did not display an open a zealous loyalty to the Monarchy during the war. Despite the fact that the fighting is done, the war in people's hearts is far from over.
I would like to get other nations per side, thus having a three vs. three RP (the Loyalists and two allies against the Rebels and two allies). To be fair, I have to inform the nations that would like to sign up for the pro-Rebel side that they will face the bulk of the fighting against the Loyalists and their allies for much of the RP, as the Rebellion is a minority of the civilian and military population.
Depending on how much interest there is, I may add another slot to each side.
Allies [pro-Monarchy]
-Ottoman Khaif-
-Halberdgardia-
Enemies [pro-Rebels]
-Kazaki-
-Space Union-
There are some conditions I want to apply to those who sign up:
1. Nations should be somewhere in the 1-3 billion population range, so as to keep the sides fairly balanced.
2. This is not binding, but I ask that all involved nations keep the numbers of soldiers that they send reasonable; I don't want this to drag out forever because I have to kill 47823743289749084 enemies, but I also don't want it to end in two pages because my allies send a like number of troops.
3. Please offer a possible IC reason your nation would have to support whichever side you want to support. This is just to help me narrow it down if there are numerous applications.
4. You must be able to spell and use proper grammar.
5. This is strictly MT, no PMT or FT nations will be accepted, as a general rule.
Once everything has been worked out, I plan for this to serve as the OOC thread. I'll make an IC thread and TG everyone involved the URL.
If I've left anything out, or if you have questions, please feel free to ask.
Is Issac going to manage to escape or will he be captured in the end?
I'm planning for him to be captured, but it's really up in the air. If, for example, one of his supporter nations wanted to smuggled him out of the country, I'd probably allow it so long as it was well RP'd.

OOC: TAG for a well-organized and well-planned RP. A quick question: what is the current monarch like? Brutal? Benevolent? Moderate? The reason I ask is that, if I decide to sign up for this RP, it'll help me decide which side to join on. If the current monarch was brutal, and Isaac were to justify his little revolution by claiming he would be a better leader, or make Malkyer a constitutional monarchy and/or include democratic reforms, then I'd have an IC reason to support Isaac, as my nation is very pro-democracy. However, if we ICly felt that Isaac would not be a better leader, we'd likely see him as a warmongering usurper, and help the monarchy.
The current Emperor, Dayan Saarad I, rules the country as a constitutional monarch, though due to Malkyer's very simple and very broad constitution, he is essentially granted the powers of a benevolent dictator. However, he leaves the day-to-day running of the Imperial Commonwealth to his various Ministers, Directors, and to a lesser extent, the Nobility. He is fair and just, though sometimes he acts irrationally when his temper gets the best of him. Politically speaking, he is very pro-free market, and socially moderate.
Internationally, he respects the sovereignty of other nations, but does not shy from using the threat of Malkyer's military to "persaude" some nations to end abuses of the basic human rights: life, liberty, and property.

OOC: In that case, if I sign up for this RP (as I've got several other threads I'm involved in right now), we'll come in to support the monarchy, and oppose Isaac.

OOC: If you're willing to take a relatively small nation like me, I've decided I'm going to sign up. My other threads are real slow these days; there's not much happening. So, if you'll take me, sign me up for the side of the monarchy.
what is a possible good reason to join?
Um...that's really up to the nation that wants to join. You can support the Monarchy because it rules Malkyer as a free and liberal society, or because you are our allies, or some other reason, for example, that you want something we have.
You could support the Rebels because you want to end the freedom allowed by the Monarchy, or because you don't like us, or because you want revenge because of something we've done in the past, et cetera. Or maybe you just want to get rid of a "good" nation, so that you can continue your genocide in unhindered. It really depends on your nation.
Halberdgardia, since you're the only one so far who's expressed interest in joining the pro-Monarchy side, you're in.
I still need some nations to help the Rebels.
My nation is a bit larger than your standards but if you don't have anyone else supporting the rebels I'll be happy to do it. And I won't randomly send about 200 million billion troops and NuKe j00!!
This seems horribly interesting and I haven't RPed in a fair while.

We would like to assist the pro-Monarchy side. They have similar beliefs to us such as human rights, pro-free market, and social policies. Are nations are very much alike and we will support them finiancially and militarily.

Oops misread his requirements. I thought he meant to take sides IC. My bad.
I see no problem with letting you in, Kazaki, even though you're a big nation.
Kazakh Provinces, you're a little on the small side, so I'm going to hold off on accepting you for a bit. If no other large nations apply to aid the rebels, though, I'll contact you and see if you still want in.
Space Union and Socialist Prussians, I'll see how much interest there is in aiding the rebels. If there's a lot, I'll open up a couple more slots for each side and let you two know.

Id be happy to join but i dont have a good reason unless it was for a "Free City" as part of The Confederacy.
Although that wouldnt be practical as i am a Royalist and it would probably mean i had to be on the Rebel side.
So i ll tag for a look in.

Let's go ahead and start to plan out the beginning of the RP, so we can get started sooner.
My role in Part I is going to primarily be as Isaac, setting up the conspiracy and making connections with nations that will support him in his bid for power. I'd like to start by having him contact the intelligence agencies, or some clandestine part of the government or military, of these nations.
As for the allied nations (those backing the loyalists), you won't have much to do in Part I, though we could try something like a state visit from one or both nations, and thus some representative of their government, or possibly even their leader is in Malkyer when the civil war breaks out.
Feel free to offer any suggestions or ideas you have while we're planning this out.

I could have our Secretary of State meeting with the monarchy in the capitol at the time of the revolution, under the pretense of establishing better relations between our two nations. After talks, we'd appoint a dedicated ambassador, but at the time of Isaac's revolution, the Sec. State would still be there.
Wow, I just sent you a TG about this. Freaky.
That sounds like a good plan. Actually, that would give me a good way to introduce most of the main characters, as the Emperor will naturally want his sons to meet the foreign dignitary.

Well, I do have this thread bookmarked. ;)
That, and I've been constantly refreshing the II page, waiting for replies in threads I'm involved in (standard procedure when I'm doing NS). But sure, I'll send our Sec.State, and a small team of Secret Service agents, over on a Gulfstream or something.

How about this: In a move to improve relations with smaller nations (as Malkyer has a history of simply ignoring small countries, unless they begin to fight one another, in which case we make them behave; see the Incorporated States of Colorado and Texas thread), the Emperor invites a delegation from Halberdgardia to Malkyer to discuss various things, such as the usual trade agreements, embassy exchanges, and so forth. Because Malkyer and OK are such close allies, Dr. bin Hussien is also invited. This informal conference will serve as a backdrop, sort of a frame of reference for Isaac's manuevers. Once I get a chance to talk to Kazaki a little more, I can plan out exact details with him concerning that.
I don't know if you've noticed, but I have cut The dead and dying from the RP because of size issues. Kazaki alone outnumbers OK and Hal together, so I didn't want another 4 billion nation helping the rebels. I've sent a telegram to Kazakh Provinces, applied earlier, but I'm still waiting for a response. Depending on how that goes, I may ask Space Union or Socialist Prussians to get involved, to help balance the pro-Monarchy forces with the pro-Rebel forces.

That sounds fine to me. I did see your involvement in the C&T thread, Malkyer, my ally McKagan was heavily involved in that (until that whole super-cavitating debacle), so I had it tagged. Can't remember if I actually deployed any forces, though. At any rate, your idea sounds good. I'm really looking forward to seeing this RP play out; it's shaping up to be a great one.
In the begining I'll have the son of a high ranking officer come with on a diplomatic meeting in Malkyer. The two sons should establish a connection as they both oppose the government set up in their countries that their fathers run. And since there is a *secret* faction of the military that specializes in guerilla warfare the son could persuade the father of all the good reasons to help in this. The government has no control over this faction only the commanders and the President directly. The president has also never denied anything to this Faction codename Gold Fire
I've been lookin for something to do with Gold Fire

I'd love to have you join, but I've already got two nations helping the Monarchy, and only one helping the rebels, so I want to try to keep a balance. There's one nation that still hasn't gotten back to me about supporting the rebels; if he wants to, then I'll talk to Kazaki and see if she's okay with letting more people to fight her.
Wow? I never knew I was a him haha. Last time I checked I wasn't. But no it's fine. I'll just send a little more aid than i planned at first. no problem

OOC: Sorry for the army outline. The forums won't allow me to post it in a way that will make it not so hard to read.
The war has started, so you can begin troop movements now. Just a couple of things I want to reiterate:
1) As of now no one knows that Isaac is involved with the rebellion, except of course his allies.
2) Roughly sixty percent of the Army is loyal to the Monarchy (about three million men, including logistics and other non-combat personnel). The rest is pro-rebellion, though the soldiers themselves might not be, they are staying loyal to their superior officers who are.
3) Much of the Air Force has been destroyed or incapacitated by sabotage.
4) Most, if not all, of the Royal Navy's combat vessels that were in port have been scuttled so as to deny them to the Loyalists. Supply ships and medical vessels are still workable, though, and can be used as transports and extra-supply haulers for the allied navies.

Halberdgardia:
Um, you can't launch any of those bombers from an aircraft carrier. Its just impossible. Sorry.
Here's a map of the Viceroyalty of North America, where most of the fighting is taking place. Blue represents Loyalist-held territory, and red the Rebels. Since the rebellion has just started, the rebels don't fully control all of the red territory yet, but those are the provinces where they are the strongest. There are rebel forces in loyalist territory and vice versa, but I colored each province according to the predominant military force in the area.

Are you sure? Because the Titan's draught is about 240 feet, which is big enough to hold a pretty big damn bomber...although I knew launching some of those might be a stretch. I'll preliminarily change it to all air superiority fighters, then, and launch the bombers from air bases back in Halberdgardia. I think we're RPing that Malkyer and Halberdgardia aren't too far apart, so that shouldn't be a problem.
And for those of you too lazy to go and download the map from his site, I've uploaded it to my Photobucket and slapped some IMG tags on it. Enjoy.

Its more the problem of weight and size. Bombers are huge! They are too heavy for carriers and can't take off from carrier decks. Also the Titan-Class could probably only carry 1 B-1B and no other aircrafts without it sinking and even then the B-1B would be too long for the runway. Sorry. :)

I was afraid you were going to say something like that. :p
Oh well. I've changed the loadout of the carriers to mostly fighters (and some other miscellaneous aircraft), and I'll launch any bombers from air bases back in Halberdgardia. It'll just take them a little longer to get to their targets, is all.

Sorry, again, but the AC-130 won't be able to launch off the deck either. Its too big. Sorry. :( I would suggest you put a fighter-bomber and attack aircrafts on your carrier for the roles of bomber and gunship ;)

Damn. I was looking forward to spraying whole rebel areas with 40mm gunfire and howitzer blasts. Oh well. I'll move those over to land-based assets too. The only good thing about that is that it lets me field more of them. I'll just up the F/A-22 complement on the carriers to replace them, then.
Damnit. I forgot my whole army was on my laptop which is gone for the weekend because a dumbass friend of mine decided to dload a bunch of shit onto it makin it horribly slow. So for now I'm only including things I can remember in detail and everything I've bought in the past few months which excludes anything I've developed as the specs for everything that were to be posted are ALSO on the laptop. Bah humbug :)

Space Union, I really don't want our forces to fight one another if it can be avoided, as there's no plausible way for our two nations to remain allies after we annihilate each other's troops in this war. So what I'm suggesting: we can stay on opposite sides, and still fight in the war, but we refrain from attacking each other. We don't necessarily have to help each other, but we don't kill each other. This would limit me to fighting Kazaki's forces, and you to fight Ottoman Khaif's forces. OK would be free to attack both you and Kazaki, and Kazaki would be free to attack OK and I. Agreed?

Okay but lets see if Malkyer agrees. But if he doesn't its not that big of a deal. This is just for fun for all the nations. We don't have to remember it outside of this RP ;)
Actually, I was thinking of that in the IC thread. If you noticed, I asked Space Union to send his forces north, and Halberdgardia to send his south.
There's something about the Malkyeri as a people that everyone should know OOCly. ICly, probably only OK would know this, because he's the only one I've been in a war RP with before. Simply put, the Malkyeri do not like to retreat. To be honest, they're just stubborn. That's not to say that they'll just stand their ground until they're dead, but don't expect the first wave to drive them back, either.
Great RP so far!
OOC: Okay I realise that we have a problem. I'm going to leave to India on Sunday (July 17th) so my RPs are going to be held-up. So I was thinking that I would find a replacement for me in this RP. Maybe Credonia, or someone else that has some free-time. Is that alright by you guys?
There are three problems with this RP so far that I see.
1) Kazaki has not posted in four days. I'm afraid I'm going to have to find someone to fill in for her. I'll TG some people tonight and hopefully we can get this back on track. Suggestions for someone to take her place are welcome.
2) Space Union will be out of the country starting the 17th.
3) I will be out of state starting the 17th as well.
Rather than replacing Space Union, I propose we sort of put the RP on hold, so to speak, at least until I get back (the 25th). I hate to do this to you guys [Ottoman Khaif and Halberdgardia], but seeing as it's my civil war we can't really do anything anyway without me updating fairly consistently.
Or if you'd like, I could put Loyalist forces under your command and then you two could keep RPing with whoever I find to replace Kazaki while SU and I are gone, and then just sort of assume that the northern front where we're fighting [Space Union and the rebels versus the Loyalists] is a stalemated situation.
Of course, there's always the option of finishing things up by Sunday so that we don't have to worry about any of this...
If there's any idea I left out, let me know.

I’m going to be out of town for the next ten days, so I’m afraid that we’re going to put the Civil War RP on hold until I get back. By that time, Credonia should be caught up enough to join in, and I’ll have someone to replace Ottoman Khaif.
Of course, if you want to continue your attacks against other nations, feel free to do so, but don’t expect a reply from the Loyalists or the rebels from about 11:00 (EST) tonight until the 26th.
I'll also send everyone involved a TG, just in case you miss this.
