Combat History
Since the founding of the Omzian nation, the air force has been used extensively throughout modern Omzian history. The Omzian Air Force was founded on September 1st, 1963, following the bloody Second Omzian Civil War, where the use of aircraft against government targets was cruical to the socialist forces' success. Later on, as the Omzian nation began to play a larger role on the world stage, it conducted various strategic reconnaissance and homeland defence missions. During wars with Royal Palm many years back, the strategic bombing force played a huge role ebfore the entrance of the tactical aircraft, which supported Omzian and allied ground forces effectively while terrorizing enemy fighters and troops alike. After this, the Omzian Air Force finally prevailed as a true combat force in the air in the Homeland Defence War, supporting Omzian ground and sea units, while fighting Sniper Country and other enemy forces in the air and on the ground, enjoying great success.
In recent times, the Omzian Air Force has surprisingly seen only a small number of major combat operations, primarily due to periods of inactivity, isolationism, and peace. however, the Omzian Air Force's strategic bombing force nevertheless played a role in the "one-thousand bomber" raid against the nation of Call to Power in retaliation to threats to Omzian diplomats, only to be cancelled mid-air due to political reasons. On the other hand, the Omzian Air Force has gained valuable experience in the Hiroshiko Counterattack Campaign in regards to air defence, in addition to interservice coordination with the Navy during the successful air campaign during the Liberation of Yasmarea.

....wow. Plain wow.

Even in my best days, I never had more than 20,000 aircraft in total.

This is just mindboggling.

This is including all three of the air branches - the Air Force, the Air National Guard, and the Air Militia. The Air National Guard is just somewhat smaller than the Air Force, and the Air Militia is comparatively a drastically smaller branch.

Incredible! Good job my friend. I might have to make one of these myself. Also how do you organise your air force? I've found out how to organize the army and navy but not the air force. Could you help me? Thanks. :)

Different people has their own organization, according to their doctrine, the goals of their air force, and a number of other factors. Personally, I organize them into different wings (a standard tactical aircraft wing has 72 aircraft, while a standard strategic aircraft wing has 48 aircraft; alternatively, there's a much larger composite wing with an assortment of aircraft). This is grouped into Air Forces, which are then placed under different "commands". Strategic and tactical aircraft are divided into two separate supreme commands due to their distinctively different roles in the air force.

Omzian Military Operational History
Operation Sandbox: Strike Against Allanean Yasmarea
By Lieutenant Colonel Jorges Hanson, 4551st Attack Squadron (FB-22D), Omzian Air Force
Recipient of Red Star First Class and Order of Ukan

As the Omzian military has been kept under a state of relatively peace, the enforcement of various foreign policies and positions on the international stage has allowed the Omzian military to gain experience and even some amount of fame through mobilization. Though these mobilization ended without firing a shot, Operation Sandbox, an intense air campaign against Allanean-occupied Yasmarea is the definite exception. Not only that, perhaps Operation Sandbox is the defining watermark of a new Omzian military that was the rebirth of the Omzian Homeland Defence Forces, following the devastation of the Homeland Defence War and the incompetence of the officer ranks. Furthermore, it also defined the effectiveness of a well-executed air campaign, along with the complications that it may bring. Termed the 'Yasmarean War' or the 'One-Night War' by many Omzians in both the civilian and military communities, it also exemplifed the shock effect that airpower has upon an adversary.

The operation and the conflict general itself was the result of a series of conflicts and disputes immediately following the Allanean occupation of the Edolian colony of Yasmarea. Though the Omzian Republic is relatively isolationist, the locationing of Yasmarea - just below 1000km off the southwestern Omzian coast - caused various concerns and problems, as it may not only threaten the ability of the Omzian forces to conduct operations elsewhere in the region, but also threatened the Omzian homeland as well. As the crisis escalated, the President and the Omzian High Command began the authorization and the formal work on Operations Sandbox and Quickdirt as a part of a grand invasion plan, with the first being the air campaign portion, and the latter being the naval and ground portion. As Omzian forces began to mobilize, foreign support - from Hogsweat, Skinny, Kriegorgrad, Ancient Terra, and other nations - also began to gather.

The initation of the air campaign finally occured on 23:00 Omzian Eastern/Yasmarean time, as a massive force of Omzian naval ships gathered off the northern Yasmarean coast. The first shots rang with the launch of a barrage of ballistic and ground-launched cruise missiles by Omzian Army units, followed by a massive cruise missile barrage - numbering "above the 6000s" - unleashed by Omzian naval ships, against Allanean targets (one may also note that many different classes of ships within the Omzian Navy fired their first shots in their occasion in their operational history across the world). The effect of this massive cruise strike was evident: air defence systems, coastal defence systems, airfields, infrastructure, and administrative targets were made almost-paralyzed, amplified by the use of a massive barrage of ground and air-launched decoys, causing confusion among Allanean ranks. At the same time, Allanean forces desparately ebgan to operate a group of unmanned combat aerial vehicles in an effort to mine the north coasts of Yasmarea. This has been dealt with when a formation of F-14Gs were dispatched from their CAP flights, firing their first shot and downing a group of these unmanned drones.

After the cruise missile strike, a joint series of attacks by both Omzian Air Force and Navy aircraft followed. In the first waves, the Air Force launched about 500 aircraft while the Navy launched just below 600 aircraft, from both land and carrier-based bases just off the Yasmarean coast. Large Thunderhawk bombers of the Omzian Air Force's Strategic Air Command and the B-36 Kunai carrier-based bombers of the Omzian Navy launched a barrage of cruise missiles against designated air defence, communication, command and control, and other important targets in Allanea while A-45 UCAVs and FB-22s closed in at high altitudes, conducting offensive counter-air operations and raining down streams upon streams of bombs against Allanean airfields, destroying not only key parts of these facilities, but also aircraft as well. Omzian Raptor and Ostwind fighters went on the offensive too, some actively participanting in air engagements in both "free hunt" and "barrier CAP" missions, while some of the Ostwinds arrived at low altitudes. Following this, another raid by the Navy was conducted while Air Force units committed another three waves, while naval ships unleashed another 200 missile sorties against Allanean coastal defences, which did damages to three Union carriers, the ONCS Meteor, the ONCS Skyfall, and the ONCS Hailstorm.

During this series of events, heavy damages were inflicted on Allanean air and ground forces in Yasmarea, though a cost was paid when a series of accidental strikes and failures in cruise missile sorties became apparant as they flew towards targets surrounded by massively-urbanized environments, killing at least 30,000 civilians according to independent sources. Out of the 3000 combat sorties flew in a matter of hours during the night of the operation, 112 aircraft were lost as a direct result to enemy fire, most of them - being non-stealthy multirole and attack aircraft - lost to Allanean short-range surface-to-air missiles and man-portable anti-aircraft missiles and automatic anti-aircraft fire of various calibres, with eight fighter-bombers lost to enemy air action falling prey to enemy UCAVs. Further, several aircraft were also lost accidentally, mostly due to the danger of terrain and bird-strikes at low altitudes at night. However, overall, the operation was deemed a success, having achieved its objectives and purposes, though not as successful as expected.

Though the grand Yasmarean invasion plan eventually came to a halt a mere nine hours later with a peace agreement, which outlined the pullout of Allanea and Allanean-allied forces and civil authorities along with the creation of an independent Yasmarean nation, it was and still is extremely obvious that the fact that the Allaneans themselves sued for peace is by no means, accidental. However, several lessons were still taught about the successes and failures of the operation. It truly exemplified the importance of an air campaign in a major military operation against foreign-occupied territory, and the audacity and effectiveness of the shock and psychological factors of the type of campaign as well. It voiced the importance of an opening air campaign that is dedicated to the destruction of enemy offensive air and air defence capabilities before direct attacks against massed troop concentrations, especially considering the dense and heavily fortified and reinforced nature of NS air defence systems today. As well, it also watermarked the importance of coordination, in addition to the use of stealthy high flying platforms and unmanned platforms to penetrate heavily-defended airspace. It also, however, displayed the danger of low level flight missions, and modern aircraft's extreme vulnerability to portable surface-to-air missile systems and even anti-aircraft guns. Further, as a last note, it also showed a major tradeoff of any air campaign - civilian casulties - as large-scale air operations, no matter how well planned it is, will generate mission and sortie failures, which in turn, generates accidental civilian casulties. As well, it also shows that an attack on a densely-built urbanized environment, such as large cities, will result in collateral damage, unless the missions and sorties are severely restricted to a point where they are no longer devastatingly effective. This also then leads to anger among these civilian populations, causing further complications in case of an air campaign, where a 'hearts and minds' campaign will be extremely important to guarentee not only tactical success, but also strategic and political success as well.

Omzian Air Force Begins Final Stages of Retirement of Intercontinental Cruise Missiles

OSSN - After almost two decades of service, and after almost three years of already saying goodbye, the elite missileers of the Omzian Air Force would have a final chance to bid farewell to the Omzian intercontinental missiles as the last batch of missile squadrons are to be dismantled and dismissed by August. Though still clouded in a mist of secrecy, the Omzian Intercontinental Cruise Missiles positioned in massive fixed bunkers has served as a cruical component of the Omzian 'Conventional Deterrence' policy. However, Omzian Air Force officials and government members of the National Defence Ministry has long cited the growing threat of long range, high altitude air defence systems, along with evolving national policies and a huge cost.

"It's indeed very sad to see the missiles go and dismantled at the munition works factory," Aviation Commander Jonares Logan said as he wiped off the tears with the sleeve of his dark blue uniform. One of the students of the last Missileer Training Program class to graduate from the Omzian Air Force Technical School, he served successfully for four years in the 51st Missile Wing, stationed in an undisclosed location in the northern mountain ranges. Such reaction is also common among many other missileers, many of whom - including Air Marshal Gonares - had already spoken out against the decision three years ago. "After all these years and my own experience in handling these formidable giants, it's ahrd to say goodbye and depart from the lives in the bunkers and manning the missile stations."

However, in an unofficial interview with the Omzian Red Banner Daily, Air Marshal Harrison expressed both regrets and a new outlook to the future of the Omzian Air Force. "This drastic cut of forces, including the complete disband of our Strategic Missile Forces, is indeed regrettable and has left many both saddened and even angered in the Omzian Air Force," said Harrison, who previously expressed doubts about the retirement of the ICCMs himself, citing the "lack of suitable replacements that will fulfill the missiles' place effectively" two years ago. "However, this does allow a great sum of money freed from our accounts, and we are anticipating a growth of our remaining strategic forces in the future, specifically the Strategic Air Command's bomber force."

OOC: A much-needed update is finally coming. I only have the numerical figures updated, but it is also possible that some figures for additional support aircraft (command & control, intelligence, mobility, etc. etc.) will come up soon, though before I update the order of battle itself (the list with the air wing types under different commands). Current standing is at 22 million personnel, 98,880 tactical combat manned aircraft, and 10,368 (!) heavy attack and strategic bomber aircraft. The goodness of a halt in army expansion.

Another air force expansion might be coming especially in the support sectors, though that'll depend on budget allocations and would require a reduction of naval budget funds.

A HUGE update of the Air Force. It might not seem as such at a first glance, but closer in, several aircraft types have been retired with two new additions. Numbers are kept the same; though in some cases some numbers are overall decreased. This is done to increase combat efficiency and logistical simplicity. Furthermore, what's new is the expansion of the Composite Air Wing into Composite Combat Groups, and the increased numbers of these unique units permits a far greater rapid deployment capability.

Large Homeland Airspace Defence Exercise Staged Over Hongazgrad

HONGAZGRAD (OFN) - As part of the annual drills over the skies of various large Omzian cities, a large exercise - the largest mobilization of aerial assets ever ever since the Hiroshiko bombing of Hongazgrad, which resulted in the death of over 150,000 - today has been staged over the skies of Hongazgrad. Exercise Guardian Rainbow, as it has been called, consisted of the launching of more than 500 interceptors in the Hongazgrad Airspace Defence Sector, along with the takeoff of more than 800 target drones to simulate a large enemy bomber raid.

"Ever since the Homeland Defence War and the Hiroshiko bombing against Hongazgrad, air and coastal defence has been a very important priority," Major-General Nokans (OFADC) of the Hongazgrad Airspace Defence Sector commented. "Unfortunately, we had failed in the defence of Hongazgrad in the air during the latter bombing, and our errors had costed the lives of over a hundred thousand Omzian citizens. Hence, in the recent years extensive exercises are conducted, especially around and at Hongazgrad, to ensure that the tragedy will not repeat."

The exercise lasted for an entire day, and involved "tens of thousands of Air Force and Air Defence Command" personnel. Almost a thousand supersonic targets were launched during the early dawn of the day over sea waters tens of kilometers south of the Omzian city. This is then followed by the rapid mobilization of more than 500 fighter aircraft in eight air wings, including Bateleur, Kunai, and Darkhawk intereptors, seventy-two of those scrambled ten minutes after the ringing of a simulated air raid alarm within the city itself. Air Defence Command and People's Militia units also were involved, with more than 120 missiles and "over 50,000" rounds of anti-aircraft gun ammunition expended during the process. Naval ships, airships, air force airborne early warning (AEW) aircraft, and air defence command ground stations provided crucial targeting information, vectoring interceptors towards these decoys before they were destroyed by live fire while at sea.

Though the exercise has proven to be much of a distraction for the inhabitants of Hongazgrad with drill evacuations, nevertheless most were appreciative of the efforts of the Omzian Forces. "Despite the noise and the interruptions in my daily routine, I am thankful that our armed forces have taken these steps to ensure our safety," engineer K. Hogan, who lost more than twenty coworkers and relatives during the attack, noted. "It is my hope that our beautiful city will not be bombed again thanks to the efforts of our military."
