SAN JOSE (RFP)- Roman forces today took control of the former Callisdrunian territory of northern California, and, after capturing the state, founded the new Protectorate called "The Republic of Sierra". According to Roman officials, the state, which had been plunged into anarchy in recent weeks, posed "a significant security threat" to nearby Roman territories in Los Angeles, as well as to Vancouver Island in the north.
Also announced today is the establishment of a string of naval bases around the coasts of Vancouver Island and Canada (OOC: British Columbia) and the designation of the Queen Charlotte Sound, Hecate Strait and Georgina Strait as exclusively Roman waters, with regular patrols done to ensure their maintanence in Roman hands. In addition to this, a regular naval patrol by Roman vessels off the North American west coast, dubbed the "Classis Americum" (American Navy), will manouvere in a circular motion starting in Los Angeles and ending at Masset on Queen Charlotte Island. The goal is to ensure that ships entering the West Coast are legal ships, and will not charge a toll for ships to pass through. No ships will sail outside of international waters, except when entering a Roman port.
