I'm not exactly sure what the standards are.

I go by my own system for my Marine's, Spec Ops and Air Force.

My Example.....
Marine Corps:
100 Divisions:
In Each Division:
15,000 -- XR-01 Battle-Rifles (w/ TR-02 Handguns)
7.500 -- XR-03 Sub-Machine Guns (w/ TR-02 Handguns)
7,500 -- XR-04 Sniper Rifles
7,500 -- XR-05 Rocket Launchers
750 Support and Logistics

7,500 Fire Teams in a Division
Fire teams have in them:
2 -- XR-01 Battle-Rifles (w/ TR-02 Handguns)
1 -- XR-03 Sub-Machine Guns (w/ TR-02 Handguns)
1 -- XR-04 Sniper Rifles
1 -- XR-05 Rocket Launchers

Marine Corps "Black Ops" Special Forces:
2 Armored Companies
Each Armored Company has:

200 Divisions:
In Each Division:
3,750 -- AR-22 Assault Rifles (w/ Phoenix "Desert Fox" Handguns)
750 -- M-134 Miniguns (w/ Phoenix "Desert Fox" Handguns)

750 Fire Teams in a Division
Fire teams have in them:
4 -- AR-22 Assault Rifles (w/ Phoenix "Desert Fox" Handguns)
1 -- M-134 Minigun (w/ Phoenix "Desert Fox" Handguns)

Marine Air Force:
1 Aerial Company
Each Aerial Company has:

4 Divisions:
In Each Division:
250 -- AC-01 Pelican's
150 -- AC-02 Garrison's

Wouldn't you need loads more logistics for that force?

OOC: Not really. I'm moving toward having sort of a "Skeliton Crew" for all my logistics. My Special Operations doesn't even use their own logistics, they use the regular marines.

This cuts down on budget issues (last fiscal year the military went over budget)

EDIT: It's really only 50 troops for every Logistics person if you do the math.

the 50 troops to each logistics is for just the Marines. That doesn't account for the Special ops guys.

All the logistics for the Air Force is through the Navy. Naval personell do all the matinance work on the aircraft while on the aircraft carriers, and at Naval Port Command.

It doesn't matter which way you organise them, its all up to the NationStates leader to decide. Spazjenian Defence Force is organised:

Squad: 12 men
Platoon: 36 men
Company: 500 men
Regiment 2,500 (Thats including Logistics, so 1,125 combat ready soldiers)
Division: 20,000 (Half are logistics, so only 10,000 combat ready soldiers.)
Army Group: 100,000

Thats pretty basic, you also need to worry how your Tank battalions, regimens are organised. Artillery, Combat Engineers, Border Guards, Mechanized/Motorized Infantry, Communication Soldiers, Reserves can also be a wide selection as well and many more.

Section/Squad: 6-11
Platoon: 32-40, rarely more
Company: about 150
Battalion: 500-1,000 (latter size for "battle groups")
Brigade: 2,500-6,000
Division: about 20,000
Corps: 2+ divisions
Army: 2+ corps
Army Group: 2+ armies

The larger the force, the smaller the percentage of combat arms troops. Once you hit divisional level, the vast majority are logistics personnel (up to about 70% or more, frequently more).
