Crimson Guard Land, Sea and Air Special Forces

The Crimson Guard Land, Sea and Air Special Forces were established on May 13th, 2003 to provide Hrstrovokia with an elite group of men and women capable of highly specialized tasks and completing ‘delicate’ missions. The Crimson Guard is open to both men and Women, aged between 20 and 35 years of age.

The Candidates must have prior service in the Military or Security Forces of the Hrstrovokian Federal Socialist Republic. Candidates must be Citizens of Hrstrovokia from birth. They must be in good mental and physical condition, politically reliable and have no criminal record.

The initial selection process for the Crimson Guards is an exhausting and excruciating physical training test. Amongst the grueling tests, each Candidate must undergo a 24km march in three and a half hours carrying a 10kg pack and personal weapon; a 5km run in less than 24 minutes; a suspended traverse along a 30m sloping rope; a dive from a 10m tower and a 30-minute nonstop swim. This must be completed before candidates can enter the next phase.

Once approved, the candidates take part in a final selection phase. This consists of a one-day psychological test with a computer-assisted assessment; two-days physical fitness testing including a minute maximum of sit-ups, a minute maximum of press-ups, three 10km sprints, stand jumping and a 12 minute run. After this, there is still a 500m swim in less than 15 minutes; an assault course to be completed in less than 100 minutes; a 7km field run with a 20kg pack and personal weapon to be completed in less than 50 minutes and an additional three days of psychological tests.

After this phase, the recruits are accepted and must swear an oath of loyalty to the Commander-in-Chief Godoyaret and must acknowledge that the fate of those who betray or shrink in their duties to the Crimson Guard is death. The Premier excercises exclusive control of the Crimson Guard through the Special Operations Command.

Some of the brighter recruits will be selected for NCO training. Those that pass the nineteen-month course graduate as Non-Commissioned Officers, while those that fail revert back to the rank of private soldier, and continue regular training for eighteen months.

In addition to their basic military training, all recruits receive specialized instructions and teaching in close-quarter combat including Kenpo; silent killing techniques; amphibious, alpine and arctic operations; parachuting, including HALO and HAHO techniques.

They also learn explosive ordnance disposal; infiltration techniques, including defeat of alarm systems and locks; communications; combat medicine; sniping; sabotage; demolition; foreign languages; survival in the wild; rappelling; reconnaissance; map reading; foreign weapons; foreign vehicle operation and foreign tactics, techniques and procedures.

The operational roles of the Crimson Guard include VIP protection; hostage rescue; counter-terrorism; counter-insurgency; and long-range reconnaissance. In addition to this, the Crimson Guard is used to subvert the military, economic and political potential of a probable or existing enemy. This includes acquiring intelligence on major economic and military installations and sabotaging these sites, counter-revolutionary warfare and the training and formation of insurgent detachments.

Crimson Guard units also are trained to infiltrate enemy territory by many methods, both overt and covert, and can operate 1000km behind enemy lines without support. Although their primary role is to locate targets for other forces [whether paratroopers, strategic bombers or armoured units], they can if necessary launch attacks themselves.

Typical targets include mobile missile site; cruise missile bases; integrated air defense systems; radar sites; command and control facilities; airfields, ports and lines of communications. Other missions include laying mines on likely tank routes; killing enemy pilots in their accommodation blocks; marking suitable insertion sites for paratroopers and transport helicopters; and assassination of senior enemy commanders.

The Crimson Guard has recently expanded from 120,000 to 200,000 troops.

Minister Alexi Mrak announced at a press conference today that the Security Forces of the Hrstrovokia will see drastic reductions amongst troop numbers; the end of conscription and the Defense budget halved.

The FSRPF currently stand at a staggering 91,000,000 personnel and 35% of the Government budget is allocated to Defense. With no enemy or crisis to face, the feasibility and practicability of having almost 100,000,000 men and women serving in the Armed Forces has been seriously questioned.

Premier Godoyaret finally ended the state of emergency he invoked 10 years ago, meaning the end of Martial Law in Hrstrovokia. Godoyaret also relinquished his emergency powers to conscript military personnel.

Conscription has grown very unpopular lately, with thousands of youths attempting to 'beat the draft' by emigrating or in desperate cases causing injury to themselves by self-mutilation or worse to render themselves invalid to serve. The mass exodus of the best and brightest of Hrstrovokia's youth to avoid serving their nation is very humiliating for the Government and discrediting to the regime.

However Mr. Mrak did not make any indication that the Penal Servitude Emergency Act would be abolished. The Act allows for the Military to command units filled with Convicts as varied as Political dissidents and Ordinary Criminals who must follow orders or face summary execution. If the Convict manages to survive the suicidal task of mapping out a minefield by crossing it; he or she will recieve a full pardon from Premier Godoyaret, not to mention and end to the harressment and degradition of his or her family.

To date, the Premier has handed out 4,000 pardons to Prisoners who have died in action, despite the Federal Socialist Republic being at peace for the last 5 years. There has never been a pardon for a living prisoner.

That or you can point out where I might purchase Be-12s from a regular storefront. Will pay 15 million from Commerce budget if you can manage that feat.

OOC: Well, unless I'm miss-reading this, you have 8.8% of your population employed by the military, and a major chunk of GDP directed at military affairs? That's coming up on double North Korean militarisation, unless you count the DPRK's practice of drilling children and old people a few days a year and calling it a reserve. It looks at first glance like there's reasonably modern equipment involved, too. I may be wrong, but I find it hard to believe that 8.8% of the population can be military personnel, presumably drawing wages from the state and costing tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars a piece (at least in the case of the tens of millions of regular fighting men).

Beth Gellert (can't log in with that account) offically enroles tens of percent of its populace in the militia, but that's because many Igovians view defence as if they were part of the Paris Commune rather than a state with an army, and it doesn't mean that they get trained or paid (unless they volunteer for or arrange their own part-time training). I suppose I always feel the need to add that as a qualifier when questioning other people's militarism.

But, yeah, if that many people were in the military, I'd expect it to be an army with no navy or airforce, furnished with AKMs at best, and employed in keeping the remaining 91.2% of the population bent over their wooden farming tools in the killing fields. Every family would be working to support a son or cousin in the military, wouldn't they? People would be pissed if they saw the outside world. I mean, you can choose to play that, I just need someone to explain where the SSBN technology and support is coming from.

But a) I could be partly wrong, and b) I don't mean it to sound hostile!

Well, seeing that your whole military has obsolete equipment and weaponry (I saw MiG21's in there  ) these numbers are believable, and do not necessarily make people to think you're a number-wanking moron as your troops aren't as great in quality as they are in quantity.

If I got it right, you use only IRL weaponry and most of even that is from the Soviet storefront?

Alot of the equipment mentioned is beyond use at this stage, such as the MiG-21s, T-55s - rusted and outdated. Only on paper does the FSRPKF present any kind of a challenge. The reality of trying to co-ordinate 10,000+ tanks in the midst of a full-scale conflict against a major power is beyond the ability of our Commanders. Purges, cronyism and nepotism have negated any advantage that Hrstrovokia has in numbers. Currently, the FSRPKF stand exactly where the once mighty Red Army did in the early 1990s, previous military spending has bankrupt the state and plunged the populance into absolute poverty. The future is bleak.

The military somehow keeps things togethers.
