Brandouneia
Introduction
Background: originally known as Saronia, which was founded in 1931 by the Saron family, Dutch aristocrats exiled from Holland. The Saron family reigned until 1999, when autocratic King Feld Saron IX was overthrown by the Jungle Revolution Front, a guerilla liberation group formed by the Orthenish people and funded by American industrialist Brandoun Bajo III. After a brief time of conflict between the varying ethnic groups in Saronia, the JRF seized official control of the government in 2002. The JRF sold Saronia to Brandoun III due to their lack of funds to run a government for 2,000,000,000 American dollars. Brandoun III transported over 100,000 American immigrants to Saronia, now called Brandouneia, however his inability to provide a working government led to his assasination by the American immigrants in early 2006. The immigrants split the central government into a 4 state federal government mirroring the government of the United States. In mid 2006, the council leading the creation of a Brandouneian constitution was executed by JRF leader and bastard child of Brandoun III, "Che" Brandoun IV, who then took over as dictator and had the rest of JRF exiled or executed.
Geography
Location: The Pacific coast of South America
Area-comparison: About the 1/4 the size of Afghanistan.
Climate: Tropical in the north, east, and south. Mediterranean to tropical marine in the west and central due to close proximity to the ocean.
Terrain: Vast rainforests in the north, east, and south surrounding the central plains, which are a mix of grasslands and deciduous forest. Swampy deltas and marshes in the Northwest and Southwest where the 2 main river systems that extend from the Andes and through the rainforests exit into the ocean, with sandy dunes, maritime forests, and tropical beaches on the central west coast and barrier islands.
Extreme elevations: lowest- Dune Basin, central west coast (below sea level). Highest- Mt. Hilda, Northeast portion of the rainforest (250 m)
Natural resources: oil deposits off the coast, lumber, uranium deposits beneath the sand dunes, sugar cane, tobacco, marijuana, cocoa, peanuts, and poppy (all which grow in the marshes or rainforest), several types of medicinal plants in the rainforests.
Environmental hazards: Hurricanes, tsunamis, forest fires, sinkholes
Environmental issues: Oil spills from old of shore oil rigs that haven't been serviced since the early 1980s yet that are still in use, uranium contamination due to improper mining of the substance in the dune areas and in coastal caves, damage to sea vegetation and coral reefs, chemical waste in rainforests from various civil wars as well as biological waste from biological weaponry which has resulted in virulent plagues in the rainforest, clear-cutting and burning in the rainforests, the introduction of feral camel spiders which hunt and endanger the bird and rodent population as well as endangering the food supplies of native spiders and hunting arthropods such as the tarantula and bird-eating spider. Chemical waste in the marshes and swamp lands.
Geography, note: There is an extensive cave system the leads from the springs and ponds in the rainforest to cliffside beaches on the coast, which are rare on the mostly flat coast. However, this is just one of the geographical beauties that are threated in Brandouneia due to decades of constant warfare and mismanagement of the environment ever since the Saron family took over in 1931.

Economy
Overview: Though at the beginning of Che Brandoun’s reign the economy was practically collapsed, with subsistence farming and bartering of homemade products being the only “industry”, the Pirate King has made a number of policy changes that substantially improved the economic stability. However, despite the stability, the Brandouneian government’s official stance is stalwartly against corporations, private enterprise, and free trade, and those that do exist are owned by the government and subject to a multitude of laws and policies that stifle business and funnel money to the Pirate King in the name of consumer rights. In actuality, it’s just government strong-arming. Owning or contributing to a private enterprise is punishable by death, however the black market thrives in Brandouneia, and supplies most of its income. There is a large market in Brandouneia for weapons dealing, drug-trafficking, and illegally pirated software, music, and movies. Along with this slick black market, piracy in Brandouneian waters is highly popular. It isn’t uncommon to hear about a foreign vessel being hijacked and robbed near Brandouneia. All of these seemingly “illegal” practices are actually fully encouraged by the Government and supported by the Police Force in order to keep the economy going without creating private businesses.
Military
Military branches: Army, Navy, Police Force
Military age: 18
Transnational issues
Disputes- International: Brandouneia has border disputes with Chili and Argentina regarding “The Wild Zone”, a area of rainforest surrounding the Brandouneian border that is unofficially claimed by both Brandouneia, Chile, and Argentina, yet is not officially part of any of them. The Wild Zone has never been settled nor cultivated for farming since the Saron’s took over 1931, and is rumored to sit on a large deposit of silver. International environmental groups and Amnesty International have urged the 3 countries to leave this area alone, as it is a one of the most pristine areas of rainforest in South America and because it holds JRF refugees. Brandouneia also has disputes with Chile, Peru, Argentina, Bolivia, and several other South American and Latin American countries regarding its encouragement and funding of piracy on foreign vessels in Brandouneian waters and in International waters. Both Chile and Peru are considering taking Pirate King Che Brandoun to the World Court.
Illicit Drugs: Major trafficker of Cocaine and Marijuana into bordering South American countries and in international waters and producer of coca, opium poppy, and cannabis.
