[Apocalypse's Dawn]

In the earliest years of the 21st century's opening decade, conflict was already arising. The economic powers of the world faltering but continuing to wage war, the new commercial leaders lacking the military to back up their money. The third world convulsed in daily violence and turmoil as the only nations who had the power to keep it under control wrapped themselves in petty politics and media entertainment. By 2010 the globe was a mess.
The great nations of the world were crumbling from a new economic recession, worse than anything the Great Depression could have achieved. Countries that once lead the world were split and conquered as new power began to surge in other areas of the globe. For ten more years this cold war raged, nations taking territory in spurts of belligerence until virtually the whole world was aligned into several dozen 'superstates'. But Peak Oil and human bloodlust determined this would not persist. Mass war would return to the earth in ways never seen before.
