El Caudillo Ministry of Education unveils "List of Most Harmful Books"

A great man, Minister of Morality Francois Waldo Vorster, once said, "The two greatest antagonists of liberty are immorality and subversion. Only when both are conquered can the world achieve peace and can mankind achieve reconciliation with the wrathful Almighty." It was with this in mind that Parliament unanimously passed the Suppression of Subversion Bill, signed into law by Chancellor Adolfo Portocarrero, and implemented today as the Suppression of Subversion Act. This act, contrived to combat subversive and dangerous literature which might taint the impressionable minds of the young and instill thoughts of dissent, officially outlaws several books deemed "dangerous" by the government. In a televised speech before Parliament, the Minister of Education, Mario Domingo Garcia announced that, as of today, the following tomes are illegal, and anyone who owns, sells, distributes, or promtotes them is subject to incarceration in a thought reform detention center for up to 10 years:

The Communist Manifesto
Prison Notebooks
Letters From Prison
Mein Kampf
The Doctrine of Fascism
Quotations From Chairman Mao
The Kinsey Report
Democracy and Education
Das Kapital
The Feminist Mystique
The Course of Positive Philosophy
Beyond Good and Evil
General Theory of Employment, Interest, and Money
The Humanist Manifesto
The Gay Science
Origin of Man

Well, we can tell exactly what economic view the administratin of El Caudillo follow, now can't we? We condemn this list of 'Most Harmful Books' as merely and attempt to undermind the Communists and revolutionary wing of politics around the world.

This is nothing more but a blatant attempt to draw attentiona way from strikes, revolutions, and truely neccessary things that must be understood around the world. A weapon of mass distraction is all this is.

Official Statement, Incorporated Sarzonian Government

We find the establishment of this "list" of harmful books to be an exercise in ignorance in the extreme on the part of El Caudillo. We are glad we do not have a society that is run by a so-called Big Brother who may be compensating for a sense of inadequacy outside the realm of national politics.

The Incorporated Sarzonian government strongly condemns the existence of this list of 'harmful' books and challenges the El Caudillo government to come up with something a little better than books it doesn't like. Perhaps actually refuting the ideas with a little intelligence would be in order.

Official Statment from Weyoun Head of Forgian Affairs

We feel that it is the right of a Nation to remove books that are harmful and could lead to dissent. The main goal of every nation sould be keeping the peace and it sould be done by any way the goverment sees fit.
We however do not remove books for the simple fact our people have learned this them selfs and are loyal to us. However any book we found to be feeding dissent would be removed at once and those who kept them would be punished. We support El Caudillo once more in their actions to keep the peace.

20-06-2005, 20:38
Official Statement of the Sharina Technocracy:

Your decision to ban these books will only damage your nation in the long run, for several cruical reasons. The Sharina Technocracy has long held the policy of placing no restrictions on the flow of information. One of the most important tools of civilization is information, because with it, you can educate people, make people intelligent, harm others via mis-information, create national identities, and a plethora of other applications. To put it simply, with no information, there is no civilization.

By with-holding the free flow of information by banning these books, you harm yourself in several ways.

1. Your people will not be able to understand how their percieved enemies think or act. If they do not know or understand communism, democracies, facism, etc. then how will they combat these governments effectively? The adage "Know thine enemy" comes to mind, and it is an invaluable tool to have.

2. Without conflicting views, there can be no competition. Without competition, progress stagnates. Throughout human history, conflicts and competition have always brought the necessary progress to propel us to the next epoch of civilization.

We had conflicts about how to grow and gather food. Thus, we developed farming methods. Competition between farming groups led to better and better farming methods.

We had conflicts in warfare obviously. Competition between each warring side produces better and more effective offense and defense equipment and technologies. Look at World War II for an excellent example of this.

We have had disagreements in science and medicine. Those disagreements led to progress, as we took on new, different, and radical ideas. Take the internal combustion engine, steam power, air-flight, outer-space, human anatomy, pharameticals, and so forth for examples of this.

Need I go on with the list of conflicts and competition? The bottom line of this is that without conflict or competition, we'd be living in the Stone Age, without the miracles and wonders of the modern world, and the enhancement of human life as we know it.

3. In banning such material, you have apparently angered or upset several nations. This is an extremely risky move, considering their strength compared to yours, and the networks of alliances that they are involved in. They may embargo, place trade sanctions, or decide to invade your nation. Then their allies would be drawn into the conflict, either directly or indirectly. Thus it will become a death spiral, continuing on and on until nearly everybody is dead, dying, or ruined.

Nothing is more harmful to a newly formed nation than having multiple embargoes, trade sanctions, and possible blockades imposed on it.

It is my hope that you are able to understand the Sharina Technocracy's views, as we do not want yet another newly formed nation to crumble into dust because of small mistakes.

Good day,
President Mina Veristek

All though we applaud the international on their diplomatic maneuvers, any attempt at invading El Caudillo shall be met with the full force of the Dracun Imperium. It is within their sovereign right to do as they fit and their heavily religious nation accepts and respects such government actions so we should as well.

The El Caudillo people are quite happy with their zealous government, how would invading help them? It would only cause them to fight for their God. So you would become aggressors, murderers in their eyes and their hate will become unmatched invading them is not an option and as stated it will be met with the Dracun Armed Forces

A brilliant and wise course of action, most of those books on your list are banned in Parthia as well, but a few more are on the list of banned books as well, namely 1984, Uncle Tom's Cabin, and some other abominations of literature. A few books on your list, mostly the religious, scientific, and philosophical works are not banned or restricted in Parthia, nor are any books in support of fascist or Nazi ideology.

"That cannot be done, for rebellious thought is inevitable.

In addition, it is impossible to eliminate an idea via massacre or military means once it takes hold. The only way to disprove ideas is to prove them wrong, such as the ancient idea of the Sun orbiting Earth, but was disproven by Galileo and other astronomers.

Taking oppressive means to eliminate ideas will only result in rebellion, revolutions, and hatred."
