In response to calls for a concerted and comprehensive review of the Robotic military, circa 2005, the Parliamentary Ministry of Defense has released its first White Paper on the state of the Robotic Military.

This ground-shaking document aims to address the serious modernization issues that plague the Robotic Navy, Robotic Air Force, and Robotic Army, and recommend various remedies for the problems encountered. While it is believed that there will not be need for any major aquisitions of new types, there could very well be systems contracts involved, both domestically and internationally.

Selected Excerpts:

Heading 1: His Majesty The King's Royal Robotic Navy

With the Robotic Navy's major surface combatants becoming unservicable, it is reccommended that all cruisers and battleships, as well as destroyers and frigates built before 1955, be scrapped or taken out of active service. This includes all Daring-I class destroyers, four Daring-II class destroyers, Captain and River class frigates, and Black Swan ASW sloops. While it is beyond question that all types mentioned above have performed excellently in the service of both the Monarch and the Robotic People, age and the unforgiving conditions of the Robotic Archipelago have rendered them no longer practical to refit, the costs of buying new vessels less than that of continuing modernization programs.

The Oberon class of D/E submarines is reccommended by this committee for replacement by Upholder and Upholder-II (Air-Independent Propulsion) SSKs, the total number of retired boats coming to 42 hulls and replacements amounting to 30 hulls.

The existing carrier force of three Invincible-class coastal STOL carriers would do for an upgrade. Both KDG-35 CIWS guns and the new Aster 30 missile systems would go a long way in enhancing these vessels' offensive and defensive capabilities. The development of a naval variant of the RAF's Merlin HC.3II large-capacity transport helicopter would be extremely useful in complimenting the small number of FAA Sea Kings.

It is also recommended that, in order to cover the retirement of over fifteen formerly front-line destroyer hulls, and in order to compliment the force of new Island-class frigates, the current Type 42 destroyer force be increased from two to ten hulls and the ten Glasgow-class vessels recieve a major upgrade, replacing their 40mm CIWS and Sea Dart missile systems with KDG-35 and Aster weaponry.

The force of Lizard-class ACC patrol vessels should be brought up to at least eighty hulls, and the force of Hunt and Sandown minesweepers should be brought to, at the very least, fifty and seventy hulls respectively.

All of the FAA's 200 Sea Harrier FRS.1s should be upgraded to FA.2 standard, and Turbo-Walrus patrol aircraft should be largely replaced as soon as possible. Coastguarder ASW aircraft should also be upgraded to MR.5 standard.
