OOC: Observations are very welcome, as this is a basic preparation thread for the upcoming increase of Omzian activity on the world stage. For reference, if anyone are curious enough, the map here is a good reference to the areas I'm talking about. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v693/Omz222/Omz.jpg)

News Report - Omzian Forces Initates Largest Military Exercise Ever - Hagras Maneuver, Involving over 50 Divisions and over 2.5 Million Personnel
News On the Twenty-Four Hours Clock

For the television screens of many Omzian residents, the face of the young woman news anchor, Jonna Hogan, has always been a familiar one ever since the Bombing of Hongazgrad just a few years. For Hogan herself, meeting with military personnel was of a normal and regular affair. However, this time, it was not the usual anymore. With a smile, she began her broadcast after the cameramen gave the signal for the end of commercial break. "Welcome back, and we have a lot more to cover right now across our nation. However, this time, it is a special occasion for the families of many men across the nation, and the start of a new horizon for these men as well. Today I'm joining a dear comrade from our glorious armed forces, Field Marshal Jonas Hogan, Commander-in-Chief of the Omzian Army Western Army Group and the Western Military District Command, to talk about the upcoming Hagras Maneuver. The largest exercise ever in the history of the Omzian Republic, the Exercise, codenamed 'Quickwind', will not only affect the soldiers from all three services of the Armed Forces, but also the whole southern region of our nation. Comrade Field Marshal Hogan, sir, can you explain to us what is the exercise, exactly."

The Field Marshal, sporting a large red star on his shoulder and a full array of medal ribbons on his chest, and gleeing with a sense of seriousness, gave a smile as his wrinkled face reflected the tons of responsibility that lies on his shoulder. "I'm glad to. This exercise, codenamed Quickwind but commonly referred to as the Hagras Maneuver, is a major upcoming ground combat exercise, involving all three services of the military. its purpose is to evaluate and test the capabilities of the Omzian Forces to fight a large ground operation by itself, on land, with assistance from our Navy and Air Force. For the simulation itself, the goal is to have a large ground force, supported by naval and air assets, to conduct various maneuvers and simulated battles that will lead to their 'capture' of Port Hagras, from starting points at northern Omz and the southern city of Hogan Point. Though it will primarily involve both maneuver and live fire exercises around the drylands and prairie areas of southwest Omz, it will also incorporate an amphibious assault component."

The young anchor patiently and politely nodded, gesturing in motion with the pen visibly in here hands. "So what kind of forces will be involved?"

"As I already have said, the exercise will involve the active components of the Omzian Forces, including the Omzian Army, the Omzian Air Force, and the Omzian Navy," the Field Marshal motioned with a baton, its pointed end sweeping across the colours and symbols on the map. For the Army, two entire Group Armies - the 1st 'Big Bolt' Group Army and the 21st 'Iron Hammer' from the Western Military District will be involved, along with the 7th 'Fireball' Group Army. This is totaling to about 49 divisions and over a million men, with the first and seventh GAs moving from Osaria itself, and the 21st GA moving with the naval amphibious forces. The Navy will also be involved, with an 8-division strong 101st Naval Assault Force of the Naval Marine Corps, along with six of our CVBGs, two of our Fire Support Groups, and additional submarines and littoral combatents. The Air Force will also be involved, with both the Western Tactical and Strategic Air Commands involved."

"Interesting," the anchor said as she repeated her nod, keeping her smile just short of a blossom. "Well, what are the phases of the exercise, and how long will it be?"

"We are anticipating a few months at a minimum, with a total of five phases. the first phase is the basic mobilization operation, which is going on right now, with the air transportation of the entire 1st and 7th Group Armies, to be ferried to locations near the Omzian capital of Osaria. In the meanwhile, naval forces will gather at a point around two hundred kilometers off the coast of Hogan Point, along with various ships from the Omzian Navy Auxillary, with parts of the 101st NAF and the 21st Group Army."

"I can understand that many will be feeling the temporary loss of their loved ones, but what about the next phases?"

"The second phase will be the true start of the combat exercises," the Field Marshal replied with joy and a hint of excitement. "The second phase will involve a coordinated series of maneuvers and movements. Though the central objective is Port Hagras, the objective in this phase is Hogan Point, southwest of Port Hagras. The 1st and 7th Group Armies will start their movement from Osaria with large armoured thrusts and airborne assaults, though no shot will be rang at this stage. For the naval forces, this is a different story, as they will be engaging in simulated combat with simulated coastal defences near Hogan Point, and attempting to land part of the 101st NAF in an amphibious assault. In the meanwhile, the LIII Airborne Corps of the 21st GA will make their move. The combined objectives of the 101st NAF and the airborne assets of the 21st are to capture key seaports and airports, to allow not only additional personnel to be ferried in, but also supplies as well. This will be followed by a series of movements, resulting in the simulated 'conquest' of Hogan Point."

"And what is the third phase?"

"The third phase is basically additional maneuvers and movements, and will introduce simulated air support. In this phase, the 1st and 7th Group Armies will further thrust towards the south, where they will eventually meet with the 101st NAF and parts of the 21st Group Army, and combine themselves into one single front, at a location northeast of Hogan Point and west of Port Hagras. In the meanwhile, with the ports 'secured', the three mechanized corps of the 21st Group Army will be ferried in via air and sea. As well, at this stage, several highways near the areas will be temporarily reduced in their capacity."

"Excellent," the news anchor said. "I assume that live-fire exercises will be happening at this stage, along with the fifth stage?"

"Correct, though it will not happen for long, and no one will be a target of course" the Field Marshal said with a light chuckle, as light gleamed off the metallic frame of his glasses. "In this stage, the forces - combined into one front - will start off with huge thrusts towards the vicinity of Port Hagras. Since the lands are essentially drylands and deserts, we will be able to conduct live fire exercises somewhat freely around designated, uninhabitated locations. Air support will also be thrown into the mix, attacking unmanned targets, ideally placed to simulate enemy formations, which includes tanks such as the famous M1A2 Abrams and other assortments of vehicles as well. In the fifth stage, live fire exercises will be put to a halt as these forces are resupplied, to simulate logistical operations during wartime. These forces will then continue their thrusts and simulated attacks further to the east, which will - a short time later - result in the 'conquest' of Port Hagras, and thus completion of the objective."

"Thank you for the time that you have dedicated to explaining this major event to us," the news anchor said. "Next, we'll talk to a group of administrative officials in the area, to discuss about the possible changes, relating to this, that will be brought and possibly affecting many people who lives in the southern Omz region..."

Field Command Post: Headquarters, 1st Group Army
Southwest of Kanze

Inside the concrete building and its assortment of complementary tents, a group of high-ranking officers gathered inside this humid building, sitting around a large table with a large screen suspended against the wall above. Fans blazed vibrantly as fresh, cold air rushed into the room like a gentle breath of the sea; yet, the uniforms of these officers were dampened with sweat, even with small droplets of humidity on the silver stars of their rank insignia. Even the commander of the entire western army forces himself, Field Marshal, was notably slightly agitated by the hot summer weather. Lieutenant General Horan, the commander of the II Corps of the 1st Group Army, was the first to start off. "Long live the President! Long live the Republic!", he chanted as he positioned his tablet PC onto the dark wooden table.

"Long live the republic!", the rest chanted. For Lieutenant General Horan however, despite being a rather low-ranking general and one of the hundreds that shares his position, was a key planner of the entire exercises, combining his political strategy with his tactical forward-thinking. "I'm sure that you all have received a map and a layout of our current plan, comrades," he said as he pressed a small plastic switch, activating a hologram which became apparant ahead of the plasma TV screen held against the wall. "However, the politican civvies has directed me to once again outline the overall events. As usual, we will be starting the first phase of the operation very soon, and as far as I'm aware, we will move first before the whole naval portion. I hope that the 21st GA will figure it out with the nabies."

"And will the air fart live up to their promise and won't screw up the whole air support portion of the exercise?", Lt. Gen Donares of the XXV Corps of the 7th Group Army asked rather amusingly. Chuckles of laughter filled the room upon to the reference of the air force.

"I shall hope so," Horan replied. "As usual and planned, it has been decided that we will conduct a traditional 'armoured thrust' operation from our current location around Kanze. Our forces, the 1st and 7th GA, will be divided into an airborne assault component and six armoured components, each made up by one of our mechanized corps. They will all move towards the southwestern direction into the vicinity of the Vorane, Danzenare, and Konare Provinces. We shall call this the nation of 'Dakov'. After we move towards the southeast of Vorane Province and northeast of Danzen, we will be spreading our forces to the areas of Kapen, Tannen, and Logan of the Konare Province. There, as we gain hold, the naval forces and parts of the 21st GA will catch up and move into one front and begin the third phase."

"And how shall the forces be arranged?", General Kontre of the 1st Group Army asked.

"Our force, as said, will follow our traditional doctrine in regards to mechanized forces, and will be divided into six armoured components, each compromised of a mechanized corps, and forming their own thrust. All six will adopt a wedge formation, with a leading armoured cavalry formation and an armoured division, followed by another armoured division. This part of the wedge will be thrusting towards the 'enemy' and consequently 'attack' their frontlines. Mechanized infantry will follow behind. Though artillery fire and tactical ballistic missile fire support will be provided, we are also anticipating air support. As well, supply convoys will be also issued protection and safety with our rear guard forces as well. Though the simulation will involve a large backing of the logistical and supply forces with the availability of excellent infrastructure, our force's success in the exercise will still depend on our force's ability to replenish themselves as needed and continue their operation against 'enemy' forces. Further, this exercise will also test resupply capabilities on the tactical scale, and will bring back the 'armoured resupply' tactics all the way back into the battle of Honjaksgrad, testing their efficiency and vulnerability to 'enemy attacks'."

"Excellent", General Kontre said. "What's the exact geographic location assigned to each armoured components anyways?"

"Each component's location will depend on its role and the different equipment that it deploys," the Lieutenant General explained. "The 1st Group Army, being geared specifically for rapid deployment and mechanized warfare, will be moving and 'attacking' on the east side of our front, racing into the desert and drylands areas around and south of Danzen. This is especially important, as mobility and the ability to conclude an engagement decisively will be important on this type of terrain. The 7th Group Army, which is geared with a more attrition-oriented approach, will be advancing towards the areas around Kapen and Tannen, where the terrain will be somewhat more vegeated. Though they lack the mobility that the forces in the first, keep in mind that the terrain near the area is more confined and is more suitable for measures like fortifications and barricades, thus despite our ability to bypass such defences, the characteristics of attrition warfare will be more visible. Thus, this is where the heavier forces of the 7th GA will come in."

"How about the airborne forces?"

"The airborne forces will be deployed in many roles, in conjunction with air force support. The heavier elements of the airborne forces will be used to screen the left and right flanks of the advancing group armies, while the lighter airborne forces will also be parachuted in to further secure the flanks of our forces, while parachuting towards fortifications and fixed defences. The airmobile forces, utilizing helicopters, will be capturing key airfields and airstrips for forward air operations, while railway and highway routes will also be blocked off."

"Excellent," the Field Marshal said with a smile, finally breaking his silence. "Remind me to file up a promotion report."
