President Sutton Announces New Foreign Policy Doctrine

President Sutton announced last night after a special session with the Credonian Continental Congress that the nation would pursue a new foreign policy to conform with the changing times and political climate. Credonia's role in the world has diminished to a certain degree due to the successful campaign against terrorism that rocks the core of every peaceful and civilized nation on earth. As we see more and more of the terrorists either killed, captured, or brought to justice, we see a more imminent threat looming. Nations with internal problem. President Sutton released a doctrine that would change the face of the the nation's foreign policy and would set the tone for new era of Credonian interventionism within global affairs.

THE JEFFERSON DOCTRINE

The world is an ever-changing place with threats emerging with every change. We have seen the emergence of terrorism, fascism and Naziism, slavery and slave trade, and chemical, biological and nuclear weapons proliferation. We are now starting to see an emergence of foreign insurgency, rebels within nations striving to change for the better, nations who have the potential to play a large positive role in international affairs, however, their path to greatness is being hindered by the acts of insurgents within their nation to see to it that their own ends are met and not the ends and demands of the people.

Credonia, a protector of life, liberty, justice, human rights, civil rights, and civil liberties has a duty and obligation to every nation on the face of the Earth to protect those fundamental and God given rights and to ensure that every nation on Earth may prosper and grow peacefully. Because to these obligations, I shall make it the national policy of the United States of Credonia to protect all nations who request our help from rebels, insurgents, and freedom fighters who wish to bring down or hinder the efforts of peaceful and prosporus nations. This nation will do everything in its power to assist the governments of such nations with every asset we have both, military and economic. Our military will be reconfigured to meet the demands of such a policy and our financial institutions will be simularly reconfigured. Credonia will once again take the lead in the protection of nations, both large and small as we have done so with every global change that has occured since the rise of Credonian power decades ago. So it shall be written, so it shall be done.

Whilst I must applaude the efforts of the Credonian administration in their efforts, I continue to remain somewhat skeptical of the exact intentions of their state and policy therein. I do have several questions, sir, if you do not mind revealing your position and opinion on the matter. Naturally, my position is only neutral, and will be determined by the answers which are to be given. Firstly, with the consideration that the United States of Credonia has historically been a democracy favouring state, what would be the doctorine for which you hold toward assisting non-democratic elements of the given world in their plight against rebellion and dissenters within that relative nation? And can it not be said that perhaps the genuine appearing nature of the Credonian administration, is not but a face to further the Credonian sphere and vectra of influence to furthermore across the world?

Keep in mind friend, that whilst we remain a dictatorship in particular - my rule has been considered of the gentle benevolent kind. Would you treat the Confederation as if it were a state with a long history of human rights abuse?

Yours In Excellence,

We thank your nation for your support in the next humanitarian venture Credonia is undertaking. We have stood side by side fighting for the rights and freedoms of many nations and through the Jefferson Doctrine and because of your nation's support, we can continue to do so in changing times. Once again, I thank your nation for its support and I look forward to working with you in the future towards carrying out the policy set forth by this new doctrine.

TO: Chancellor Judge Manifesto, Confederation of Judge Manifesto
SUBJECT: The Jefferson Doctrine

The questions asked were actually ones in which were going to be addressed in a later statement, however, there is nothing stopping us from answering them now. In regards to Credonia's policy towards assisting non-democratic nations, Credonia is tolerant of all types of nations so long as the governments ruling over them grant a reasonable and acceptable level of human and civil rights, and civil liberties to the people. Just because a nation is not democratic does not mean that the government is oppressive. In fact, the people could be very happy and prosporus under governments such as dictatorships, monarchies or communism. We will help such nations as much and with the same level of enthusiasm as we would to assist nations with a democratic or pro-democratic government.

To answer your second question, every action taken by every nation on Earth, no matter how genuine in nature it may be, has some kind of political motive behind it. For Credonia to deny that there isnt at least a slight political motive behind the action would be wrong on our part, but Credonia genuinly does care about the well-being of the international community and the citizens of each and every nation on Earth and our actions continue to follow the trend that Credonia has been known to take when it comes to providing humanitarian aid all throughout history, so to say that we were taking on such a foreign policy solely to gain influence in the world would be purely false.

Lastly, we thank you for your, thus far, marginal support regarding Credonia's move to change its foreign policy for the betterment of the international community and hope that your nation will assist Credonia in the future.

From: President Blake, Republic of Lanquassia

Mr. President;

I do applaud your efforts previously applied to the threat of terrorism looming above us all. It is now becoming apparent that the collapse of the Bari Empire was caused by such an attack, thus leading to several generations of anarchy in my nation before the ressurection of its government. It is important to us that we see major, powerful nations taking steps to crack down on these terrorist actions.

However, your new application of the Jefferson Doctrine begins to worry me, and I am writing this letter to you in the hopes of addressing my concerns.

On what basis would the United States of Credonia decide who to intervine for in the case of insurgency, rebellion, or civil war? I ask this because in the goal of attempting to bring stability to the world under our Blake Doctrine, I almost made the mistake of bringing my nation to the wrong, from our perspective in hindsight, side, specifically the Demon Wars not too long ago.

Certain commentators in the Republic and her economically allied nations are speculating as to your decision to enforce the Jefferson Doctrine as a subtle attempt at imperial expansion, and while I and my government in no way agree with that speculation, we are forced bring up the hypothetical question to you, to alay fears within certain circles of the Republic.

May you find peace and stability,
John Blake, President of the Republic of Lanquassia

Your concerns and the concerns of your allies are valid and I can easily put your concerns to rest. Now, Credonia will only get involved and intervene in a nation's civil problems if one of two things occur, either the government of that nation requests assistance and provides valid proof legitimizing the need for outside humanitarian, political, and military assistance. The second thing would be if the people of that nation request such help to fight the government's oppression and they must provide ample proof that their government is oppressing them.

Now, as for claims that this policy is merely a form of imperial expansion is wrong. Credonia will not take unilateral actions against nations unless the government of that nation or the people within that nation request help from us. Then and only then will Credonia enforce the Jefferson Doctrine and provide any and all assistance necessary to serve the ends of the people. Credonia is not an imperialistic nation nor will we ever be. Our past has shown a history of generocity and we will continue that tradition well into the future.
