I have to disagree....the Turkish people themselves may be good people, but the government and authorities are ruthless animals who mistreat not only their own citizens but also other nations....that is why Turkey's human right's record is quite frankly terrible...mass genocide and no recognition of it is not welcome in the EU...
no disrespect meant to the people of Turkey, just it's government and police....

we shouldn't really be letting countries like turkey into the EU, granted the EU has enough problems of it's own right now, and a free border of drugs, kamikazi muslims, health tourists and "asylum" seekers would only prove to be putting petrol on a tyre fire. Don't get me wrong, Muslims are people too, they are inherintly a good people, but like I said, Europe has enough problems.

At this time, yes. But after the next general elections in Germany (this fall) which the CDU (conservatives) will most probably win, Germany will fiercly oppose Turkeys membership too.
