ooc: A quickie, sub 30 minutes design.
Description: The ASF-06 Coral Dragon flies at mach 11 at 130,000 feet in the air, is manueverable, stealthy and heavily armed. It also costs $180 million per unit, not including the unholy maintenance costs.
So... yea. We made a cheaper VTOL fighter that's generally better suited to import and mass production.
ASF-07 Komodo:
Dimensions
Length: 14m
Height 4 m
Wingspan: 10 m swung out, 3m folded up*
Engine: 3d vectored pulse det hybrid.
Thrust made: 68,000 lbs.
Maximum take-off weight: 35,000 kilograms
Maximum speed: Mach 3.3 (governed)
Avg Speed: Mach 2.1
"Stealth" Speed: Mach 0.9
Range: 1100nm
Weapons: 9x internal munition bays capable of carrying up to 1,000 lbs. per bay, or 4x heavy munition bays capable of carrying up to 2,200 lbs. each. Optional wing hardpoints (6x), but these reduce stealth. Also, 1 3 barreled electrothermal 25mm minigun is available.
Avionics: Simple integrated avionics command system. It's not as advanced as the ASF-06's massive suite of carbon computers, holographic interfaces and advanced controls, but it'll do. The system is fly by light, so it's hard to destroy using EMPs.
Sensors: ODLIR (Omni-directional looking infrared), Low probabilitiy of intercept active radar, passive radar, doppler LIDAR, LADAR, radio direction finder, terrain referencing system.
Communications and navigation: Dial an output broadband, GPS feed, compass.
Stealth features: Semi-stealthy shape, infrared masking, blackbody carbon/kevlar RAM honeycomb, condensation trail masking, optional variable optical camoflague. Nose fashioned to reduce sonic boom.
Countermeasures: Flares, chaff, DIRCM infrared counter measures. Optional active radar cancellation, optional radar decoy.
Cost: $95 million
Production Rights: $5 billion
*Design Note: The wings fold up vertically to facilitate storage in a tight hangar or a carrier. The wings are also foward swept wings with canards in order to promote better manueverability.
