Your Nations religion?

I suggest everyone makes up their religion and we have a database to keep it all. Along with your choice of religion add your religion symbol. as well as a description of it.

EDIT:Alright, all I'm gonna do is list the names of the Nation, then give a link to your response. This is mainly just a directory for nations religions. The nations in the same letter catagory are not alphebetized. . .that's too hard :D (Maybe I'll do that someday, but not for now).

Durthangism: named after the Prophet and leader of our nation, Lord Durthang.
Just live your life. You make decisions every day. If you make the wrong decision you die, you make the right decision and you will live. If a Durthangist dies, then that was his fate.
But death is not always a punishment, one who dies in battle after fighting well, may receive rich rewards in heaven after his death. Someone who is victorious goes home, is honored and receives the same rewards when he dies naturally.
A death is avenged by a death. And a guest is honored above all, you give him your best food and protect him with your life (even if this person is an enemy)
Someone who enters our nation armed and uninvited is an invader offcourse.

Those are the most important rules of Durthangism.
The Charr
14-06-2005, 19:07
"The Great Gods of Fire are the deities worshipped by the Charr. They are many, and yet they are one. They are nameless, yet their true name may not be spoken. They are the Ones forged by the unbearable heat of the Crystal Desert.

They are present in all that burns. Their powerful lifeforce can be seen in the living, breathing morass of destruction that is fire. Any with eyes can see this lifeforce in work as fire licks and spreads, enveloping all that it disdains and leaving no-one it touches unharmed.

Thus, to be closer to the Gods of Fire, we need only keep a flame nearby. To pay our respects to their immense power, great Flame Temples must be erected and allowed to burn for all time. Should the fire be extinguished, the Gods will be angered and will bring down terrible wrath upon us. For as long as the fire burns, they will bring glory and power. ‘Tis the duty of the Flame Keepers to maintain the flame. Should there be no temple nearby; a statue -- either wood or a more sophisticated firestone statue -- may be burned to keep the Gods near to the Charr.

There is no 'symbol' of our faith -- only the flame."

The government is resoundly Athiest, although the only practiced (and legal) religion is The National Church of Concremo, similar to Buhdism (sp?) in most aspects. Anyone caught worshiping a diety deemed 'unprovable' is given one week to make mass donations to The Church and attend daily practices. If they fail, it is Prison Without Parole for one month, followed by another week. If even by then they fail to reform, they are declared excommunicate by both the church and the government, with legal (and otherwise) Open Bounties on their heads and the Police actively searching or them.

The people of Barlibgil are allowed worship anyone or anything that is certified by the government. Any member of a religion caught openly worshipping a god/goddess not endorsed by the state can be imprisoned. This is the way we keep religious radicals out of Barlibgil. As soon as any religion tries to force it's ideas into the government they lose their state endorsement...then the REAL persecution begins... ;)

The native religion is polytheistic with nine major gods/goddesses and a multitude of minor and demigods, along with a few of the less "I want to bathe in your blood" demons.

The major Gods are:
Li-child sun god
Thasseran-magic god
Yterran-harvest/growth/prosperity god
Wesyr-knowledge/logic/science/history god

The major Goddesses are:
Althera-ocean goddess
Thanla-lust/beauty/future goddess
Vem-child moon goddess
Velm-war goddess
Pterna-healing/love/nature/purity goddess

I've got two nations:

The serious one, Aerialis, I made up as starting as a haven for scientists and other "wtiches" during the dark ages. Through the years, it tended to keep on the Progressive Edge of things. So the majority is Atheist/Agnostic, but there's been a recent upsurge in such nondeistic religions as Buddhism and Taoism. Christianity is considered by most of the populous as a dated theory, good for its time but no longer necessary in an advanced society. However, because of its zealous evangelizing, it has been somewhat more successful than the other Abrahamic religions. And, because of its roots in the Inquisition, Protestantism has had slightly more success than the traditional Catholicism. The indigenous population, however, practice a tribal religion known as Kari-Kari.

Kari-Kari is a mythology which says that the earth was birthed out of the same mother eons ago, and that it undergoes many different forms. This is the fifth form. They believe in a connection between all people, reverence for the earth, and that the soul ascends several planes to reach Arikku---a state of bliss that's comparable to heaven, where it rests with the "Mannara", literally translated to "The Source", but meaning the mother.

Atheist/Agnostic: 45%

Buddhist: 10%
Taoist: 7%
Christian (Protestant): 3%
Cristian (Catholic): 2%
Jewish: 1%

In my other nation, OHMYGODITHURTS, religion is banned. The only worship allowed is that of the Almighty Dollar, and those who do not pursue this end with their utmost are killed as Communists and traitors. We successfully whiped out the indigenous population and their particular brand of religion with such grim efficiency that nobody even remembers the name or the tenets. There are resistance groups, but don't worry, we're whiping them out as well. So, the rundown is a little like this:

Atheist/Agnostic: This Message Has Been Censored By The Grand Exalted Leaders
Christian (Protestant): This Message Has Been Censored By The Grand Exalted Leaders
Christian (Catholic): This Message Has Been Censored By The Grand Exalted Leaders
Jewish: This Message Has Been Censored By The Grand Exalted Leaders

Well, there is no state religion here (separation of church and state); however, there are several in existence. Probably the most-followed, but least-known, is Tashikiism, which is a monotheistic religion centred on the worship of the sun god, Tashki. The sun is held to be the embodiment of this almighty deity, whose form cannot be comprehended by mere men, and who is responsible for all within the world. Prior to the "Anglicisation" of the islands, the predominant method of greeting one's friends and allies was "Light upon thee," with "go with the light" or a similar term analogous to "goodbye," for instance. Tashkiism is practiced by the Order of the Heavenly Orb, and the main symbol of the religion is, unsurprisingly, a representation of the sun in the form of a golden disc, emitting light upon all around it; thus, one can tell Tashki temples from quite some distance, since their towers are always capped by a giant, hollow, gold-plated sphere. Tashkiism is, however, rarely seen in the cities, mainly due to planning permission issues and entrenched opposition to its expansion within government.

Other present religions include Christianity (RC, C of E and Orthodox Russian for the most part, without with some fundamentalist groups), Islam (mainly Shia), Sikhism, Hinduism, Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism.

2.) Bhuddism- 28%
3.) Islam- 16%

Other religions are permitted, but are not protected by the various laws which ensure "State Religions" are not assaulted. Having no religion is also acceptable, however is low due to continued terrorist attacks by the SAG (Society Against God).

"A force that shaped the universe." you would reply.
"Ah! So you mean the universe itself?"
"No, I mean a god."
"Oh...I see...you mean the force that created everything. The one thing that brought the sands and the winds and the suns. The thing that brought life to all corners of the galaxy. You mean that?"
"Yes! What do you believe in?"
"Out there."
"What?"
"Out there."
"What does that mean?"
"Out there. The universe. We believe in that."
"But what made the universe?"
"Who knows? Who has the audacity to answer that question?"
"But don't you want to know?"
"Why? We discover many secrets through our thoughts, but many still elude us. You must make sure to accept what you do know, and allow the unknown to not consume you."
"So...you believe in..."
"Out there. For the secret of creation is out there, somewhere."

Jenrak
15-06-2005, 23:46
100% Rite Immenian

Jenrak is a major theocratic country, dedicated to the ancient laws foretold and given to them by their father empire, the Ascheran empire of Enkur and Arskzen. This religion, a mix of both fanatical warmongering zealotry and suppressive pessimism, is the main staple behind Jenrak's military strength, and its relatively unoppressed peoples, as once thought.

Like a preordered set of commandments, there are a set of goals that seem to be the way to reach attained enlightenment. However, to ensure neverending faith to the Immenian words, they are contradictive ot each other, making it impossible to achieve enlightenment, and therefore, break off from it's goal.

Rite 1 - There is no true revenge; only actions
"With everything that seeks blue, all that seeps green, shall be a fire for that blue, and a red for that green. Everything is in a balance of the opposites, and nothing can be tipped in favor. For every action that approaches, a reaction takes place. To conquer the Rite is to see what reaction takes place, and see if that reaction is what your action is claimed to be."

Rite 2 - You may seek justice, but that is never enough
"Believing something safe is foolhardy, and diligence is the road to erosion. Discipline is not diligence, yet discipline is strength. Conquer this rite by knowing what Justices are made, and what justices deserve but have not been seen. Doing more justice than harm is harm itself."

Rite 3 - Life is unto a curse; break that curse by embracing it
"Death is the end of a step for life, as life is a long walk down the path of solace. Believe in an emptiness in life, and you shall believe in emptiness in yourself. To break this rite, make due of what is your life, and relieve the pain of others."

Rite 4 - Fanaticism does not exist; only faith
"Faith is a never-ending peace, a strip of power that is beheld in all beings. A heretic is less than dead, and a rebel is a heretic beyond salvation. Become faithful, and devout your faith by becoming a life, and eliminating the lives of heretics and rebels. Only then can your faith be acknowledged for the strength it is."

Rite 5 - A mass is mass, despite the composition
"People gather, leaves gather, water gathers, and that is all the gathering masses of the universe. Masses are inherent, unstable, and so forth that all masses beyond the stability are incapable of being sustained. Destroy an unstable mass to break this rite."

Rite 6 - There is no god; only an illusion of order
"God does not exist, only his will. One's will is strong, and the will of god, even if not the being itself, exists within power. Break this rite, draw strength from yourself and break your god's will."

Rite 7 - Death is a calling, not a phase
Death is not a phase that one must travel, but a segment to another life, another being and meaningless existence. Break this rite at your deathbed, by cursing your previous life. Only then could you forge your own next life, and become greater than before.

Former church officials, however, can run for office, and current church officials can speak at political functions.

However, since the Empire fell due to religious conflicts, the church has learned its lesson and church officials, even local priests, havn't even spoken at political functions.

Hakurabi (FT) (Crystalline) is Scientist-Run.

Effectively, whilst there is no religion as per se, Scientists of all sorts are considerably weighted towards when priorities are decided at the tri-revolution (yes, it's every three days) bookkeeping. From there, scientific teams attempt to justify their current projects in order to recieve the most attention during that cycle, though all projects of at least some merit do recieve government attention. For example, collation and archiving of dated materials would be given a moderate priority, a lead on higher speed FTL communications would be given a somewhat higher priority, but a project to develop a gold plated toilet would not be aided at all.

As the system is largely controlled by Scientific Figures, it has become a sort of religion, with the youth aspiring to become a member of the Scientific Elite.

Bibledom is entirely based on the bible. Symbol (http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b171/mountainboy965/drapedcross.gif)

The "official" religion of The Holy Imperial Republic is that of Roman Catholicism, however, Eastern Orthodoxy has also gained a major acceptance, and Freedom of Religion is practiced in Nueve Italia
New Dornalia
24-06-2005, 00:34
Freedom of Religion is practiced in New Dornalia. 65% worship the Patriotic Church, a deified version of Communism that embraces the ideal that there is an all powerful People's Will flowing throughout existence, and that it manifests itself in the form of "Heroes of the People;" famous Communist heroes like Mao, Che, Lenin, etc. Stalin is seen as a Satan figure in this faith, as is Pol Pot.

20% practice Christianity. Predominate forms are Baptist, Catholicism, Mormonism, and Abhuman Evangelist (a form of Christianity practiced by Abhumans, like "Necker" catgirls and Elves). 10% are Jewish, 3% are Muslim, 2% are other religions.
Dovakhan

The Dovakhanese Government is avowedly non-religious and is a proponet of liberty of belief, but in their grand census, they asked people about their religion:

30% Deism
20% Judaism
20% Kardakhianism (Ancient Dovakhanese Religion)
10% Taoism
5% Islam
4% Atheist
(There is a TINY minority of Zoroastrian and others)

A little on Kardakhianism:

There is one supreme deity in Kardakhianism, that is Kardakh, who has many avatars (Such as Dovakia/Apolista, the avatar from which Dovakhan gets its name. These avatars come in the form of animals, plants, humans, and divine creatures (like angels). The leader of the Kardakhian is the Matriarch, who lives in Apolistiana. Evil is considered the product of Kardakh-given free will, plus a weak side of humans. Evil people cease to exist, while essentially good people (Kardakhians believe nearly everyone is essentially good) people are reborn (there is a kharma system in Kardakhianism called the Ish, which also contains aspects of dharma and tao). Khardakhianism is an elastic religion, accepting other religions' gods as 'avatars' or Kardakh. Most clergy in Kardakhianism are women.

The Eternal Kawaii

The people of Our nation are united under one faith, the Holy Otaku Church of The Eternal Kawaii. Conveniently, the HOCEK also serves as Our nation's government. You can read all about it in our wiki entry linked below.

My nation's religion is basically Greek Orthodox but with a twist. The old ancient Greek religion has been kept so my citizens believe in the 12 Gods of Olympus. The structure is like this:

God

Jesus and the 12 Gods

The Saints and Minor Gods

OOC: Sounds like a more 1984ish version of the RALMs Church of the Clow, though with a much different organization.

"I will also note here that the recently-emancipated humans of this nation, who represent a significant minority, follow some kind of heretical pagan beliefs dating back nearly as far as our own. I am not sure what they call it -- I know that they have such things as a 'god of war' called Balthazar and suchlike, all portrayed as humans. They do not discuss them around Charr, though. I am not certain how something in the shape of a Baldy can have divine powers, but that is what they believe."
