Each Delegate serves a two year term, while each Senator serves four years.

Despite regulation that would stifle some national economies, Sarzonia’s economy is among the more robust in the world, based largely on arms manufacturing. The strongest company in Sarzonia by far is the Portland Iron Works, an arms manufacturing conglomerate that accounts for 24.7% of Sarzonia’s Gross Domestic Product. Other prominent companies in Sarzonia include Houghton and Mifflin book publishers, Random House, Eckie Cola, Imperium Cola, and Estrella Motor Cars.

While the government regulates most companies in Sarzonia to within an inch of their bottom lines, the Portland Iron Works is allowed to operate without government interference. In exchange for that largesse, the company pays taxes on its profits to the government. While PIW is subject to the same laws regulating international commerce that other Sarzonian companies are, it often preempts governmental decisions to prohibit commerce with a country by placing it on its black list.

History

The Beginning
While the Incorporated States of Sarzonia was only founded in 2004, the country’s traditions reach back hundreds of years. The country was founded by former American citizen Mike Sarzo, who led a group of settlers who were disenchanted with a United States led by George W. Bush in 2001 and found a large island and built the first settlement in what would eventually become Nicksia.

The country eventually gained its independence in 2004 when a stream of people came to the country. While the country was originally founded by Americans and its system of government is heavily influenced by the United States of America, a growing influx of immigrants from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and an early group from the United Kingdom of Isslemere-Nieland led to Sarzonia eventually adopting British spellings and expressions. An influx of Praetonians further cemented this sea change in language.

Among the government’s early initiatives: Establishing the metric system as the official system of measurement in use by the Incorporated States, naming English the official language of the country, and ending the civil benefits of marriage, conferring those on civil unions. When Sarzo was elected President, he chose to name two Senior Vice Presidents, one a Senior Vice President for Internal Affairs, who would help lead the day-to-day affairs of the country, and a Senior Vice President for External Affairs, who would serve as the country’s foreign minister. Cabinet positions, run by Secretaries in the United States of America or Ministers in Great Britain, would be run by Vice Presidents.

Military history
The Incorporated Sarzonian Navy got off to a flying start when it engaged Feazanthia in a military exercise. Despite having a much smaller force, including only two fleet carriers and five light carriers, Sarzonia more than held its own against a more experienced naval force.

The country has adopted a pragmatic foreign policy based on a limited non-intervention policy; however, in a case of ethnic cleansing, Sarzonia become the first of three countries that opposed Holy Panooly’s efforts at ethnic cleansing and declared war when that country refused to cease its practice. Despite a poorly-coordinated allied effort with Austaur Union and Axis Nova, and despite the country’s much smaller and less experienced military, Sarzonia defeated Holy Panooly and forced their government into exile.

The government would face a threat shortly thereafter when the country engaged in a brief, but brutal civil war when the state of Bausch attempted to secede from Sarzonia. An allied force including Isselmere-Nieland and Morathania helped Sarzonia defeat Bausch and force the state to return to the Union. That would eventually lead Sarzonia to its next major threat as Sarzonia dealt with the aftermath of the death of Nellis, the dictator of Nellisland. The Sarzonian Navy aided the forces led by Michael Nellis to defeat warring factions and Michael Nellis eventually become Prime Minister of Nellisland.

However, that was when hostilities with the now-defunct nation of Cam III started. Unbeknownst to Sarzonia, Cam III declared war on Nellisland and launched a missile attack with Sarzonia repelled. Cam III then attacked Sarzonia and dueling coalitions assembled and arranged a cease fire between the countries. During this cease fire, the now-defunct nation of CorpSac threatened Praetonia when it seized a military vehicle from United Korean Nations when it entered Praetonian waters. Sarzonia ignored its alliance obligations with CorpSac and declared war when CorpSac declared war on Praetonia. The ISN acquitted itself admirably again, capturing enemy submarines and sinking them after the surface fleet was wiped out. Eventually, Sarzonia joined Praetonia at peace talks with CorpSac, which nearly led to a resumption of hostilities. However, quick thinking by Admiral Marcus Patinkin led the country to win the terms it and Praetonia wanted.

Cam III reared their heads again, launching a ICBM attack on Sarzonia that an enormous coalition of countries shot down, then a coalition that eventually reached 15 countries launched attacks against Cam III. Cam III agreed to surrender terms, but a civil war dragged Sarzonia in and led to the nuclear destruction of Bausch’s wartorn state capital, Townshend. Furious with the Camian attacks, Sarzonia, Praetonia, and Morathania launched a massive nuclear attack that wiped the country off the face of the earth.

Today
Sarzo had been single for most of his term until a Sarzonian Secret Service agent caught his eye. That agent, Jay Tyler, eventually became known as the First Partner. The announcement was greeted with mostly support, from allies and countries that Sarzonia had limited relations with. The country eventually engaged forces from Doomingsland in the Inkanan Civil War, which many analysts expect will lead to years of intense warfare with that country.

I am now going to tag this document, seeing as how your nation plays a large role in the development of my Royal Armed Forces. Beside that, it's well made.

Factbooks are getting way too much of a sameness about them, all styled like the CIA world factbook. I think I will do something radical to mine, write it in pirate lingo or something.

Edit: But apart from being the same as all the others, its pretty good.

Very impressive.

Farmina, I can understand your concerns regarding the bludgeoning dullness of some factbooks based on a template, but Sarzonia's is a good argument in favour of the CIA Factbook template as it outlines the necessary information in an easy to follow format instead of forcing someone to hunt for it. Sarzonia has similarly put his own spin on it, which makes a great improvement on the model.

It's actually my template; although based on the CIA version, it's been tweaked enough for me to call it my own version. Though I don't deny it's not 100% my work.

This is a very well done fact book. I do not find these fact books dull but that might just be me and my linear style. I believe it is excellently done and everything that one needs to know is there so what’s better than that?

Holy Panooly was never defeated, I had to take a leave from NS to sort some real life matters, the war itself is undecided. I managed to destroy several ships, and you did damage to the HP armed forces. There can't be talk of a victory on either side. The war itself ended by a cataclysm caused by an ancient artfact RPed much, much later.

I think I'm going to add a note about major shortages Sarzonia has in oil production and coffee. That might give this factbook a bit more character. Though I think a lot of times, a country tries to put its best foot forward in a factbook.

OOC: Yes, because that many students, of any nation, just get up in the middle of a semester and leave. By the way, your exchange rate is wrong. It's SZ$1.00 to K0.3759.

I'd like to be your ally, too, and get my name on this marvellous factbook;) ... But guess I'm too evil for that, still lacking the evilness (and stupidity!) to become an enemy. Oh, well.

Anyways, it looks damn' neat.
I think I'll use this format too, assuming that Pacitalia has nothing against it.

OOC: Of course you can use it! That's why I created it - it's sort of like what Wiki's got with the Free Documentation Licence. Redistributed and used at will. :p

OOC: That wasn't a snide comment, Mike, it was the truth. You're taking this way too far. There's no need to be unrealistic with your factbook edits just to get back at me. I honestly think this is becoming way too big of a deal. Let's just calm down and take the IC stuff one step at a time.

Though if I needed to go FT tomorrow, my tech base would be based on Star Trek. It's the one I'm most familiar with.

I can agree with that, although I would try to add a flare of originality to things as well...I really need to post my own bloody Factbook.

Unless everybody's decided to retcon the whole Torontia thing with the OOC disagreements, my government still harbours quite a bit of residual anger toward yours about its treatment of countries it's allied with. If that's the case, you would be a neutral.

Put it this way, if I get involved militarily with the whole ViZion mess, I'll be fighting for the Congressionals, but my forces will refuse to cooperate with yours (that is, if you've sided with the Congressionals as well. That RP's so damn hard to follow).

Even though we solved the problems with them (peacefully i might add) and even ended up assisting them?

Oh crap, my next question was going to be: any chance i could convince you to assist my fleet moving in to engage MassPwnage?

Guess not - still i'll ask anyway - hes appearantly got over 2000 combat ships awaiting my arrival plus subs in the hundreds.

Even though we solved the problems with them (peacefully i might add) and even ended up assisting them? You still launched a missile attack. That's hardly solving problems peacefully.

Well yes, but after that Yallak made a complete stand down of its forces (even though we were creaming SF in the war) and came to a peaceful resolution. After that we were even providing them with our transports to carry their own equipment (and military supplies) around.

No chance. Your government would have to do some major groveling for me to even consider it and I don't think you're exactly the groveling kind.

Not really no. Especially not ICly. Still what kind of groveling are we talking about? Yallak may consider some kind of attempt to gain your support, else we may have to leave Kahanistan and ViZion to their fate.

Hello,
This is citizen Amara Cruon. I wish to speak to Janis Hedge. I have some business to do. We at Cruon Commercial House, RFS-- Registered Family Syndicate wish to make a trade agreement to export large amounts of fish to your country. Our fisheries are very well stocked. We also can provide Nori-- seaweed if you like for sushi. We would like to sell $100 million dollars of fish per month. This includes a wide variety of seafood-- halibut, salmon, cod, trout, prawns, etc. We are also starting to cultivate pearls if you are interested in buying these as well.

What 'grovelling' would Yallak have to do Sarz if it wanted to get the Incorporated States' support

Sarzonia, don't you think your factbook lacks a catalog of characters (note: links to DMG's MT factbook character catalog) (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=10327920&postcount=9) you role-played or used to role-play? Because I personally think that adding names to your Presidential Administration and military officer names isn't enough. Just a friendly suggestion.

At this point, there isn't much Yallak would be able to do to gain Sarzonian support. Though if they have some suggestions or some plans, I'd be interested in seeing them.
