History
The history of the Credonia Class Super Dreadnought begins at the time when the Doujin Class, still to this day the largest built naval vessel in NS history. With the introduction of such a powerful new naval weapon, Credonia saw the urgent need to contract a company to build one of equal or greater strength as a number of nations would attempt to procure their own super dreadnoughts and use them for good and/or evil. To get caught in a war without a super dreadnought while the enemy possessed one would be humiliating to Credonia, a world super power. Credonia immediately contracted The Freethinkers, the original builder of the Doujin Class, to create a naval vessel that could match the Doujin's power. A deal was forged, however, the vessel was never designed or delivered, leaving Credonia without a vessel powerful enough to combat the world's growing number of Super Dreadnoughts, and leaving Credonia with broken relations with nations part of the Organization of Maritime Powers (OMP).

Years went by before Credonia attempted to procure a custom designed naval vessel capable of matching or challenging the power of the mighty Doujin. Finally, after some relations with OMP members were restored, the nation of Isselmere via Isselmere-Nieland, the nations' naval vessel creator, was contracted to build what was to be the Credonia Class Super Dreadnought under the project name Europa. The Europa Class SDN was to be the answer to Credonia's need and call for a custom-built and exclusively owned Super Dreadnought that would compete with many of not all of the currently existing SD's already out, including the Doujin, however, because of a lapse in communication with Isselmere and mounting political pressure being exerted on both Credonia and Isselmere, the Europa Class SDN retained its original project name and was made available for sale by any nation who possessed the means of buying, operating, and maintaining the hot new vessel. Due to the breach of contract, Credonia was forced into designing its own Super Dreadnought. The design was created with 100% Credonian technology and technological innovation, adding to the growing list of technological feats that Credonia has accomplished to date. The Credonia Class Super Dreadnought is a powerful weapon to be reckoned with and directly challenges the Doujin Class Super Dreadnought in all aspects including lengh and width. Compared to the DC SDN, the CC SDN is shorter in length by only 19 meters. Credonia can boldy boast of its new technological and engineering feat as the CC class is unveiled to the world.

Sutton Air Force Base, Credonia

The Credonia Class sat in the shipyard unmanned and glistening in the afternoon sun. John Maverick, captain of the titanic beast that sat at the dock gazed at the ship in awe as he would soon get a chance to board her and take her out to sea under his command, while the President and other important government and military officials were aboard. The vessel stood as a boast to the world of the Credonian technical and engineering know-how, and soon, this beast would pull from port, challening all naval vessels from nations deemed Credonia's enemy. The beast that had been created was surely one of the most powerful and one of the largest ever constructed in world history. His crew of just over 9,000 would be arriving soon so Captain Maverick begin his short trek to the naval headquarters office to prepare for the arrival of the high priority government officials.

This is comparable to the Couragous-Class SDN by me and Praetonia. Here's the link to it if you want to compare:

Uh, I don't think you can be operating P-3C Orions from that vessel. Kind of hard to operate an aircraft with a 1292m takeoff roll. Even if this were a purpose-designed carrier, there's no way that you could possibly launch or recover that aircraft. Plus, the Orion doesn't have folding wings, so storage requirements would be extreme.
My advice: use S-3Bs instead.

Question. What purpose does such a large ship serve? Wouldn't it be more economical, practical, and sensible to use smaller ships?

The ship can serve as a command ship, engage ships in ship-to-ship combat, fire its big guns in coastal bombardment, and provide a hugely intimidating presence. No smaller ship can do all those things nearly as well as a SDN can.

Maybe you could use the money for one SDN to buy a lot of smaller ships, but then you won't have something that can fill the same roles as a SDN.

Or, as Freethinkers once wrote on a thread I created for a previous SD I came up with: OOC: One of the more annoying and flawed arguements against the 'Super Dreadnought' style battleships is the 'I can afford X amount of $Generic_Warship for one of your SDs' statements people seem to make.

This is a laughable assumption, because you are making the single most obvious comment ever in the history of warfare. THAT IT IS FAR, FAR CHEAPER TO KILL SOMETHING THAN IT IS TO MAKE. A $5 million MBT can be put out of action by a $1000 RPG, and a $6 billion Nimitz would be hamstrung by a couple of $50 million missile boats.

So why do people bother building anything at all? In fact, following the 'I can afford X amount...' logic path, we end up with Navies consisting entirely of remote control explosive speedboats. The cheapest possible way to swarm enemy ships and sink them.

So why are bigger, more expensive ships built? Because no matter how many or how much of one type you build, you still cannot recreate the original capability of the ships you buy in exchange. No matter how many Subs you could buy for a SD, no Sub can take the place of an SD, that as a centralised floating command bunker in the middle of the fleet. Ships can only be prepared on price IF they have a similar role and capability. A SD is sure as hell aint a sub and definitely wont be filling in the same role, so its pointless to compare.

Guys, this is an RP thread so I would appreciate it if you kept ALL non-RP relatedb and OOC posts OUT of this thread. If you want to talk about the design of the ship, talk about it in my OOC thread found here: http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=423894. Thanks!
