OOC: Before you ask, this is not on any Earth in particular- I'm just South Africa, located in the African continent- if you don't like that, don't RP with me.

OOC2: And please don't cry Apartheid. Here, I'm RPing things different- where South Africa is majority white (70%). Yes, there are blacks, and they have the same rights as every other South African.

STATE OPENING OF PARLIAMENT, CAPE TOWN

Daniel Lockhart, the State President, was a bit tense as he entered the parliamentary chambers. It was to be his first day on the job, since his Freedom Party's election two months earlier at the polls. He knew he'd have a tough road ahead of him- South Africa had for years been isolated from the rest of the world, a mere island in the sea of great nations. It was his job to change that.

These thoughts ran through his mind as he stepped up to the podium, to deliver his inaugural address. Daniel checked the microphone, whispering into the phone, "Is this thing on?" MPs began laughing. Daniel, with his normal good humor, shrugged it off and started.

"My fellow South Africans, today we begin a new era for our country. For far too long we have merely sat by the wayside, allowing South Africa to shrink into obscurity while others rise. We cannot, as faithful citizens, allow this. We've made many mistakes as a people, yes. Apartheid was one, but we ended that. Another was the period of isolation. It failed.

Under my administration, we will rebuild lost links to the world. We will promote South African business, bringing in foriegn investors to our country, enriching it. We will also actively seek allies, for, any great nation in the world needs friends to survive.

I know my agenda may unnerve some in this assembly. Let no one believe, though, that I will pursue these goals at the expense of the people of South Africa. Despite our new outreaching agenda, we will not seek to rid South African society of so called "undesirable" elements. Not true at all. All of South Africa's people enrich the country, whether white, black, asian, or any colour out there- they all work to build the country.

To end my speech, I'd like to include a quote from a well-renowned poet, and patriot, C.J. Langenhoven. In his poem Die Stem, which later became our national anthem, he included a line at the end which I feel summarises the whole gist of my argument- "Ons vir jou, Suid-Afrika", otherwise said as we for thee, South Africa. We must always keep that close to our hearts- we are not in this Parliament for personal gain. We are here to serve South Africa. That is our mission, and we must not fail in it."

The MPs then stood up and applauded, cheering on Lockhart's speech. Lockhart smiled and waved, knowing that this was the beginning of a new era.

FOREIGN MINISTRY STATEMENT

We are pleased to announce that the RSA has decided to establish relations with the nations of the world. We are allowing embassies to be built in Pretoria, the administrative capital. Note, though, that if you are granted an embassy in South Africa, South Africa will ask for an embassy in your nation.

Please apply to the Foriegn Ministry for an embassy. Any security garrisons must be 50 soldiers or less. Extra security can, however, be negotiated with Pretoria depending on need/special conditions.

Dear Daniel Lockhart of the Republic of South Africa,

Greetings Daniel, allow me to introduce myself from one Head to another. I am Sergei Ilyanov, member of the Rosian Socialist Party, Head of Government of the Imperial Union, and Grand Chancellor of the Imperial Council.

We are the Imperial Union, a Union of states seperated by the oceans but united by the United Imperial Assembly. But enough of that, the Imperial Union is interested in an Embassy exchange, trade agreements (in specific military technology, I keep hearing South African technology is good), and all that jack. We would also like to present what we want as our Embassitic Guard.

One Imperial Mk. II MBT (With Crew)
One CH-47 (With Crew)
Three Ninha Mobile Anti-Air Systems (With Crew)
Five Soldatoya HMMVWs (With Crew)
One Hundred Soldiers
One Ambassador (Sir Michael Connoley)

The Imperial Union eagerly awaits the South African Republic's response. We hope to begin a good relationship that might prosper in the future.

Yours Comradely,
The Imperial Union

From: State President Daniel Lockhart of the Republic of South Africa

Sergei,

Myself and the republic are grateful for your help. We are most pleased that such an esteemed nation has smiled upon South Africa.

As per the embassy guard, I just spoke to the Defence Ministry, and that is indeed acceptable. Just try to keep the music down. ;). My government is also interested into a technology exchange. As you no doubt know, we already have such excellent programmes as the G6 howitzer and the Rooivalk attack helicopter. We also have a new fighter project in development, codenamed "Skyhawk."

I thank you for your time. Both of our nations will no doubt benefit from these agreements.

Cordially,
Daniel Lockhart

South Africa recognises the Free Xenizen government. We would ask, however, that your embassy staff be stationed in Pretoria- only because it's where embassies generally are. However, you are more than welcome to open a consulate in Cape Town.

Romandeos is currently plagued by a horrible disease that is currently known simply as The Sickness. We believe it to be manufactured, but are not certain. Thousands have already perished because of it, and the numbers are increasing still.

The word of the leader

http://www.nationstates.net/images/flags/uploads/guffingford.jpg

"The nation of South Africa has always been a fair brother of Guffingford. Our nation itself can be seen as with a history that can be compared with South Africa. Guffingford is also home to Dutch and German colonists who came in the 15th century looking for abundant land for agriculture, forests and vineyards. In your nation the former Dutch and other European settlers are called Afrikaners, we call them Neulanders (Newlanders; Germans living on the northern island or in the nortern badlands home to most of the diamond and goldmines.) or Hooglanders (Highlanders; Dutch settlers living on the coastal highlands). Because of our quite similar shared history, we respect and acknowledge the existence of South Afirica as a sovereign state, who can always count on the Guffingfordian military muscle in times of peril."

Myself and my government feel honoured to have such an esteemed friend on our side. We have noted that there is indeed a great cultural similarity between our nations, both being built by Northern European immigrants. We thank Mr. Kruger for his government's hand of friendship.

Likewise, we also wish to made known that, should Guffingford require our aid, we will not hesitate to provide it.
