Secret IC: PIW developing new large battleship

Sarzonia

Background With the proliferation of new superdreadnaughts in countries such as Credonia and Stevid, along with new generations of superdreadnaughts in Praetonia, the Portland Iron Works has seen fit to design a ship that would be a pure anti-ship vessel, though with an armament that would also serve it well in a coastal bombardment role. The result of this design is the Atlantic-class large battleship.

The development of this ship came as a bit of a surprise with the Brandywine-class command dreadnaught and the Independence-class pocket superdreadnaught each having similar armaments. However, while both are designed to serve as command vessels with an aircraft wing in line with other superdreadnaughts, the Atlantic is designed with warfighting in mind. It is intended to serve as the main surface combatant in just about any fleet.

Armament The Atlantic is armed with 15 610 mm (24 inch) electro thermal chemical guns in five triple turrets; three forward and two aft. As such, it can present a powerful broadside that not many ships can stand up to. As secondary armaments, the Atlantic comes with 10 203 mm (8 inch) naval railguns, to allow it to serve in a coastal bombardment role. To deal with close-in threats, the ship comes with 10 140 mm (5.5 inch) ETC guns in single turrets port and starboard. With an arsenal of 384 VLS tubes capable of firing missiles as large as the 'Scorcher' and 'Scourge' missiles in Sarzonian employ, along with four torpedo tubes capable of firing the ultra large 'Bayonet' torpedo, the Atlantic brings deadly force to any encounter.

Atlantic-class Trimaran large battleship
Length: 538 m; Beam: 106 m; Draught: 16.3 m
Displacement: 544,320 tonnes full
Armament: 5 x 3 610 mm ETC guns in A, B, C, X, Y positions; 10 x 203 mm naval railguns in single turrets port and starboard; 10 x 140 mm ETC guns in single turrets port and starboard; 4 x 96 cell Mk 136 VLS; 4 x 650 mm TT; 2 x naval-modified DREAD centrifuge gun systems; 10 x Rattlesnake CIWS
Protection: 860 mm-980 mm advanced armour composite (titanium, vanadium, aluminum, amorphous steel and ballistic ceramics); double-bottomed, reinforced keel with void spaces built on a honeycomb frame. Void spaces have KERI foam installed; composite rods and kinetic-reducing ceramic plates provide limited protection against KE attacks.
Propulsion: Six Pebblebed nuclear reactors; four internalised waterjets. Compulsators provide power to naval railguns from central power system. Each reactor given extensive thermal insulation to reduce noise and infared signature. Four diesel engines provide emergency propulsion. 35.2 knots.
Aircraft: Capable of launching five SZ-15 'Dragon' ASW helicopters.
Complement: 3,930
Sensors: AN/SPY-3B MFR multi-function radar; AN/SPS-64(V)10 navigational radar; AN/SQS-56 (K) hull mounted sonar

Decoys: AN/SLQ-49; AN/SLQ-25 Nixie; MK-53 Nulka DLS
Fire Control: MK-99 FCS missile fire control; Gun fire control: MK-88 GFCS (System calculates ballistic gun orders, The GFCS conducts direct firing attacks against surface radar and optically tracked targets); MK-116 mod 7 ACWSCS torpedo fire control
Torpedo Fire Control: MK-117 ACWSCS (Anti-Submarine Weapon Control System, Underwater Fire Control System)
Countermeasures: Towed array sonar utilizing a hull transducer or a towed active transducer or both. It is an integrated ASW, Mine Avoidance and Torpedo Defense underwater system.
