OOC: Why does no one respond to my topics?
I generally feel that no one in this board likes me, often I make plenty of topics and there is generally no response at all, maybe a few views but there are no responses. I am trying really hard in this board to receive regconition here. If someone will tell me why no one pays attention to me tell me why.
I would pay attention to your threads if the titles interested me enought to read them.

this is not a response to one of your threads. :p
Generally I am a rap lover, and also when I do war topics no one replies.
Well, you see...I...ah...um...hmm....gotta go! *runs off*
Nah, but really, I'm not entirely sure myself. Usually I do enter a thread when there aren't many posts in it, so I can start from the beginning really fresh. I've been away a bit, so I haven't seen your recet threads. But I can RP with you in a thread if you want later, since I have a bit more time now on my hands.

Very true. This sums up quite a bit. So, basically, don't feel bad.

This forum is huge, and by your post count I dont think many people on here know you, but that doesnt matter (so its not because you think people dont like you). Personally I find that most people respond to the threads that are stupid. (well at least in the general forum)
Perhaps your threads arent stupid enough to generate a response from people. :D

Dont worry, I got this when I first joined the forum, and I still get it with some threads.
I gained a moderate amount of fame by being almost totaly unique in NS. Sure, theres lots of modern nations, but there arent ANY modern Goblins that have MY stuff.

If you're not a well-established name, your chances of anybody even considering reading a topic by you are fairly low. It seems the only way for newer nations to actually get their threads noticed is either by starting a war or doing something controversial. And it's usually to criticise...
Basically, if it ain't war, and you ain't an old nation, people don't wanna know. Sucks, I know, but that's what I've observed so far.
So? I'm not an established name, and some people go to my threads.

Its not a personal thing, it doesn’t matter how long you’ve been around on the forum, no one replies to your topics unless:
1: You’re like AMF, and have a little horde of nations who trail in your wake
2: You’re a moron, and post moronic things
3: You’re a n00b, and you post n00bish things
4: You post a topic on the wrong bored
5: You begin the mass murder of minorities
6: You’re title contains things like “OMGZ” “1337” or “ph3r”, also “n00k” and “j00” ought to help
Hell, I’ve been here since September of 03, and no one replies to me…not that I care
What doesn’t help is bumping your posts every ten seconds, or creating a topic to ask why no one replies to you…in theory, wouldn’t you just be setting yourself up to not be replied to?
Oh ya, there is one other thing you can do to get people to reply
Orchestrate and plot out an RP, with pre-decided players, who have an interest in the story you are trying to tell co-operatively My God, you can’t stress that point enough here on I.I
Anyways, like I said before, its nothing personal, no one replies to anyone

Don't feel bad about it. I mean, I'm several months older than you, have a much higher post count, and no one reads my threads either. In fact, the longest one of my threads has ever gotten was an OOC thread about me going FT that got about twenty replies. Even a planned, closed RP with Theao and Doomingsland died after about four or five posts.
But enough wallowing in self-pity. What I'm trying to say is don't feel bad, as it happens to everyone.
Do what I do: join RPs, and try your best to emulate the players you respect (but don't copy them, as that's just annoying). Once you get a few nations that you're OOCly friends with, you can start doing more planned RPs among your group, and maybe get to know other RPers better through those initial friends, thus expanding your thread-reading potential.
If you can, try to find some way to be uniqiue amon the nations of the world. For example, be one of the good guys. God knows I.I. has more than it's share of the evil genocidal nations, and the free, good nations are few and far between. Or, if evil is what you want, be original. Do something uncovential, instead of the usual "I slaughter x number of y minority blah blah blah"
Anyway, I hope that this has been more of a help than useless banter. I wish you luck, and I'll reply to some of your threads if I see them.
First of all, do not listen to Trans, or The Charr, or anyone else saying anything like they are saying. You must have patience, and you must be able to write well if you want even the smallest bit of attention until you reach a certain age and number of posts.
Take me for example, I have under 500 posts, and am about 6 months old, and I am just now getting to become a little more recognized because my role plays consist of more than the usual "I am sending two divisions into Nation X because they looked at me funny."
Another way of establishing ties is to just butt into other people's role plays if they are open. You cannot expect people to come to you if you do not put a little effort into making friends and establishing a good groups of people who will rol eplay with you almost all the time. Also, try and stay away from role plays that involve people like Sephrioth and Hataria, as they have a bad reputation in the forums for being godmodders, bad writers and overall crappy role players.
Finally, don't make any posts like these. While they may get a lot of hits, it may be taken as a sign that you are a whiner, and no one likes a whiner in their role play, and thus they will not want to role play with you.

Here’s the thing:
If you look at the number of threads that people pay attention to, you’ll see they fit into every category I listed, including pre-planned RP.
You’re post count should not matter What does matter, is exactly what you said, you’re writing ability. That is the one thing that will ultimately make or break you…
On the NationStates forum…
Sadly, here on II, mostly, people pay attention only to the numbers listed in my post.
Mostly, it does take patience, and not whining about it.
I also forgot to mention, original idea will always get you views and replies. Though, of course, everyone’s already stated that, I just wanted to make it known that I agree.
Nascent: Unless you’re a resurrected nation, you’ve been on this board since Sept 04….or, less than a year. That’s a pretty long time, and you’ve seen many a things transpire here. I know it to be fact that your writings are solid, and well done.
I’ve watched these boards almost daily for over a year and a half. I’ve also seen many a thing here. Speaking form the experience I have, and seeing what I’ve seen, we all know that very few people, whomever they may be, get the due they deserve for their writings. Those who do the stupid things I mentioned, however, get all the recognition. Very few people remember a decent RPer after he or she is gone…they remember the stellar ones, and, moreover, EVERYONE who was here for, remembers, FWS, or CM/DA/VE, everyone knows Seph and Hartania, but far fewer know you or I.
The Law of Diminishing Returns applies here. It’s as if, the more work you put into it; the less people want to read it
Disclaimer: I am by no way saying all RP should be one liner, mindless drivel. Look into my background you’ll see that’s not what I’m all about.
Think about it.
Trans: Ive been roleplaying on these boards for probably anywhere from a year and a half to two years, but ive had a few different nations, so yeah Ive seen quite a few things here. And although it shoudn't be, you were right in what you were saying about the ways to get any recognition in II, but it was more counterproductive than productive.
And thank you for your comment.
Gryobot: One good way for you to see how not to role play would be to look up any of the threads in which a nation called Fascist White States was involved in. Look for the one in which FWS teleports his entire nation back in time, its a hoot.

As Nascent said, take a look at some of the Great n00bs. Im not sure if Xeroxx is still searchable, but he was one of the early n00bs. Check out Anti Terrorist Army, FWS, The Federal Trade Unions early posts (he has gotten better though), Sephrioth, and theres a few others floating around.
Theyre all great examples of what not to do.
Blood, if you dont mind, what nation were you pre-jolt? I may remember you. My first nation was called Hamanistan, and then I got rid of that one (it was really out of control) and then Canan around a month or so before the move.
Other things you can do to be recognized:
1. Be a lesbian.
2. Announce the marriage of yourself or your (maybe lesbian) children.
3. Start a tournament of death (this ALWAYS peters out after a few pages, so don't blame me)
Oh, and don't listen to those jerks who foolishly call you a whiner, they're all just a bunch of whining foolish jerks.

I feel that the best advise that has been given by a few of the people in this thread is; You want to be noticed more, get yourself into other nations RPs (when they are open) and show them what kind of RPer you are. Then as many have said, you can start your own threads and RPs with the people you meet from others RPs. If those are open then even more might join and then you get noticed even more. You just have to build yourself up slowly. And Just dont give up.
I started by posting my origional technology and fact book ooc thread, then an announcement of my nation to the world (or Universe in Korgareins case)and a request for allies. Now I am going to try to RP with some of my new allies. Keeping in mind this isn't my first nation to RP.
Well good luck to you, Maybe see you in an RP or two sometime.

My last piece of advice to you Gyrobot, is to ignore people who post things like this. None of those will help you gain the type of recognition that you should want being in a role play forum. And the tournament of death has been played out. You could probably use it, but do not expect a whole lot of people to jump into it with you.
Im sure that you can figure out what you should listen to and what not to but I figured Id try and help one last time.

About a month after I joined you posted your "No more futuretech!" topic, it was moderatly entertaining :)
As AMF said, RP. Alot. Never stop :P
Try joining a few threads instead. I know, straightforward MT RP's seem to be getting rare, considering all the [CLOSED!], [EARTH], storefronts, tech announcements and so forth, but theres a few wars out there, and a few decent diplomatic RP's.
You could look at a few of the RP's on NationStates, but the people there sometimes get a bit uppity if you dont respond with a twelve paragraph essay :)

I think I'm going to have to third the suggestion to join RPs that look interesting to you that are invite or open. If you want into an invite RP, my suggestion is to send the country starting the thread a TG expressing your interest and outlining thoughts about your role in the storyline. Once you get involved in some RPs like that, you'll start to get noticed.
Also, AMF is right about RPing and continuing to RP. Roleplay is like any skill. The more you do it, the better you get at it. Keep at it and keep trying to get better. I've been around for over a year and I'm still working on improving my skills as a RPer.
Yes, the entire forum is conspiring against you. We don't like newbies.
Joking, honestly. But all of the advice I can give you is what everyone else said. Of course, it doesn't hurt if your RPing is awesome, like Bone Mother's (Got recognition, but where the hell did he/she go?).

I am going to be brutally honest with you. So forgive me. There is a simple solution to this, all you have to do is RP good. Let me re-iterate.
THE ONLY SOLUTION TO THIS IS TO RP GOOD
Yes folks, that's what it is. Make a good RP, give it a fancy title, and people will join. So just keep going at it.
Nascent, although my advice was not meant to be taken seriously, yours was.
Finally, don't make any posts like these. While they may get a lot of hits, it may be taken as a sign that you are a whiner, and no one likes a whiner in their role play, and thus they will not want to role play with you.
Not only are you insulting and manipulative when you say this, but you also seem to think you're being SUBTLE, when in fact you are not.
Please read the post directly below the one you criticized.
Peace. :p
1. In the title, put this at the end: (Open, MT) The MT stands for modern tech, which I'm assuming you are if you tried to go to war with Sephrioth.
2. Make sure you have researched the situation ahead of time and planned things out. Trying an infantry invasion against a future tech nation twice your size and in a different galaxy is not going to look good for you.
3. Read the stickies in the Nationstates and International Incidents forums in the Sound & Fury sections. They have everything you need to know about kickass RP.

That's funny, my skills are actually getting worse the more I RP. My skills started out so-so, became better, then reached a peak, then started to slide downhill, and now they're slightly below average.

Wow.......I'm a point of reference. Sweet!
Anyway, like a lot of people have been saying, point one is to get involved in other peoples RP's. Until people see that you're good they won't start actively searching out your posts, and if nobody sees your posts (Which seems to be the topic of this thread) then it won't happen for a long, long time. Just be seen and it'll all work out.

Actually, just speaking for myself, I do read most of the threads that make it to the first page in the International Incidents forum; however, I haven't had much time to roleplay at all, despite the many good RP's out there. I would gladly join a few of the RP's out there, but I don't normally check out a thread that has over 40 replies because chances are, the story has already developed to far for someone to join. Lately, I've been taking the stance of, "If you want me in an RP, plan it out with me through telegrams over instant messenger before hand, or add an "Attention: Euroslavia" to your title, then telegram it to me" amd I'll probably join if the RP'ing is decent. I've stopped volunteering to join specific RP's, for the simple fact of not having enough time to do so.

Aust, don't try that. Gyrobot backed down once someone explained the situation to him, it was Seph who then attacked Gyrobot for OOC reasons. Seph being a crap RPer has nothing to do with dyslexia. I'm dyslexic too and I take offence to Seph's RPing. Not because he's dyslexic, but because he's lazy, and ignores the RP etiquette seemingly on purpose. Dyslexia does not make you a bad RPer, you for example are very good. Laziness makes you a bad RPer, and thats whats got Seph.
