The Takashio is Japanese Antarctica's first domestically made nuclear powered SSN.

History

After several years of using the Russian exported Akula Class submarine, the IJAN demanded a replacement. The Akula was a potent attacker, but the IJAN needed something more formidable. Thus, from Syowa Shipyards came the Takashio, meaning High-Flood Tide.

The Takashio features sonar absorbing tiles, low magnetic steel and new sensory equipment. The nuclear reactor and engine, manufactured by Ishikawajima-Harima, pumps out up to 70,000 HP. Like the rest of the ships in the IJAN, it is linked up to the Type-09 combat system, though it is the least effective communicating node of the system, as it is forced to keep silent.

Each submarine is built at the cost of $1.6 Billion per unit. The IJAN has ordered forty for the time being. The first in the series, the Takashio-maru was laid down six months ago. Each are expected to take ten months to build.
