The Last Citadel...the destruction of the Terran Federation (FT)

The mood on the bridge of the Orbital Weapons Platform Warrior was distinctly negative. Thirteen standard minutes ago, a Machine probe had entered the Delas system, undoubtably searching for more organic survivors. It must have detected the population of the planet at 26 billion, and the power cores that powered such a population, not to mention the ship drives surrounding the planet. The probe was destroyed, yes, but it must have transmitted with a SWIFT transmitter. It was only a matter of time. The Machines had already annihilated the rest of the Federation as far as anyone knew, and now they had come to the final fortress of Federation humanity.

Dense minefields surrounded the OWPs and defending human ships, but the battle began definately one-sided. The Machine fleet massed seventy-eight monitors, one-hundred and twenty-six superdreadnoughts, four-hundred and twelve battleships, over a thousand cruisers, and five-hundred and twelve fleet carriers. The defending humans held only seven monitors, eighty seven superdreadnoughts, one-hundred and six battleships, three-hundred and eight cruisers, and fourteen fleet carriers. The human's only advantage was the six OWP systems, immobile, but with the fighter bays of two fleet carriers and the firepower of a monitor and a superdreadnought.

The machines came on, regardless of losses. Initially, an SBM exchange ravaged both fleets. The Machines got the better of it, for their interconnected Datanet and sheer volume and accuracy of point-defense firepower destroyed over seven-eighths of the inbound missiles. The humans, inaccurate, firing wildly and at duplicate targets, destroyed only two thirds of the much more substantial Mechanical bombardment. The Machines then closed, under fire from the longer ranged weapons of the humans all of the way. Thirty-one Monitors lagged, their drives severly crippeled and their computer cores malfunctioning or offline. The humans were fighting valiantly, their mines, OWPs, and newer battle-sphere tactic taking a heavy toll on the Machines. But, the Machines, lacking the feeling and the care of organics, came on as an avalanche, firing constantly even as attenuation diluted their short-ranged Hellbore and Force-beam bolts.

The Machines ground onward towards the extinction of the Terran Federation's human population...and possibly on towards communication with humans outside the Federation. But now, there was a battle to be won.

It was a common site; the massive, slate gray, dreadnought class Kazeci Super Cruser entered the system alone. Seeing the massive battle, they rased shields to full, but nothing more. Weapons remained offline. A message went out on all channels:

This is the KNS TalNesh. We demand to know the perpose of this battle.

Two responses came nearly simultaneously.

"This is...umans. The machines...jamming...ignal. We...elp...Mach...xterminate...*static*"

"This is the Concordiat. We had once been enslaved by the Humans, but now we are free. The Humans are the Enemy."

"Well, who do we help?" first ensign asked.
"Why even step in?" a second ensign said.
"It's the right thing to do. These humans don't deserve to be wiped out." said the caption.
"But what can we do for them, the machines are too many." came the first ensign's voice.
"No, we cannot fight them. We must stop this slaughter some other way." The caption was at a loss.
"We could offer them asylum." Said the first ensign hopefully.
"But if we do that, the others will declare war upon us, and this is a foe we cannot defeat." The second ensign quickly added.
"Then we must do this diplomatically. Send the following message to all ships in the area."

Stop this pointless battle. What good will killing off the last of a race do? They have paid dearly for their 'crimes' already. They can never harm you again. Killing the last of them won't do anyone any good. Kazecistan asks that both sides cease firing immediately.

The Second No Endorse Deep Space Fleet noticed the intense fighting in this area of space, and apon recieving, but not decoding, weak transmissions from the area, decided to act.

The few cruisers of this fleet made a quick hyperjump, and entered the system well behind the attacking fleet. A short, all-access databurst was transmitted, and all craft assembled at the ready.

This is the Second No Endorse Deep Space Fleet. Why are these vessels attacking this planet? We do not like mass murder except when we ourselves commit it. Be advised that we are authorised to use extreme force if necessary.

The Mainframe thanks Green Sun for honoring the alliance between our nations. This adds more potency to our attack. Tell us, what are the combat abilities of these ships?

Battleships: Our battleships range from medium to Very Large, and we are sending two Large and on Very Large.
--Medium Battleships are armed with two Medium Laser Cannons, which are good for taking out orbiting structures and cruisers. They also have one Big MAC which they use to disable and destroy larger vehicles, not to mention dozens of smaller MAcs and turrets for anti-fighter purposes. They can carry up to 500 conventional missiles, whether they be regular Archers or nuclear or Anti-Matter warheads.
--Large Battleships have Two Medium Laser Cannons and one Large, which can wipe out a medium city in one blow. They, too, have a Big MAC plus a Medium MAC and hundreds of turrets. Large Battleships can carry up to 750 Missiles and can have a medium Drop Crew (Which is roughly 500 men and several tanks and otehr armored units.)
--Very Large Battleships have one Large and three Medium Laser Cannons, plus two Big MACS, two medium MACS, and up to 1500 missiles. These structures are absolutely huge and the humber of anti-fighter turrets is enough to take on a small Cruiser. It has a huge crew, however, and are hard to maintain. They carry up to Five Large Land Assault crews. We have tree Very Large Battleships, and one of them doubles as a small carrier.

Cruisers: Our Cruisers range from Toy to Gargantuan.
--Toy Cruisers are incredibly small, hardly larger a regular fighter. They have only one MAC Turret and one Medium Laser. We don't build many of these because of their in-general weakness, but for those we do have, tehy are used to protect miners on Asteroids.
--Very Small cruisers are basicly the same as a Toy only with a Laser Turret in addition to the MAC turret.
--Small Cruisers are even larger, capable of holding everything from two Medium Lasers to a Medium MAC. These cruisers vary from captain to captain and how they like their ships to be outfitted.
--Medium Cruisers are the most common, holding one Medium Laser and one one Medium MAC in addition to several turrets. These hold up to 100 missiles.
--Large Cruisers have one Large Laser Cannon and one Medium MAC plus turrets and 200 missiles
--Very Large Cruisers carry one Large Laser Cannon and a Big MAC plus 350 missiles and a Medium Drop Crew.
--Gargantuan Cruisers are the alrgest, carrying two Large Laser Cannons, one Medium MAC, and a Big MAC and 550 Missiles.

Destroyers: Destroyers only have three sizes, Large, Very Large, and Gargantuan. Destroyers are the big muscle of our fleet, but we don't build too many of them, since they are incredibly expensive.
--Large Destroyers have one Large Laser Cannon, one Medium, one Big MAC, and 800 missiles. In addition they can carry up to two Large Drop Crews.
--Very Large Destroyers have two Two Large Lasers and one Big MAC, 950 missiles, and two Drop Crews.
--Our Gargantuan Destroyer has 250 fighters, Two Large Lasers, one Medium Laser, two Big MACS, 1500 missiles, and four Large Drop Crews. This ship is called the Royal Hand.

Carriers: Our carriers depend mostly on their fighters for protection. They range from Small to Very Large.
--Small Carriers have several Turrets and carries one Small Drop Crew, plus 300 fighters.
--Medium Carriers carry up to 500 fighters and one Medium Drop Crew.
--Large Carriers carry 750 fighters and one Medium Laser Cannon. They can have One Large Drop Crew.
--Very Large Carriers carry 1000 fighters Two Medium Laser Cannons and three Large Drop Crews.

We are sending:
-The Ballad, a Large Battleship
-The Druid, another Large Battleship
-The Homer, a Very Large Battleship
-The Dryad, a Large Destroyer
-The Achilles, a Very Large Destroyer
-The Sprite, a Medium Cruiser
-The Autumn, a Medium Cruiser
-The Monsoon, a Large Cruiser
-The Siberian, a Very Large Cruiser
-The Albatross, a Large Carrier

Stop this madness! There is no need to murder every last one of these people. Do you not realize what you are doing? You are killing the last of an entire civilization! And for what? You don't even know! These people cannot harm you, there aren’t enough of them. Why kill when it will gain you no advantage? Stop! Stop I say! A small ship suddenly appeared in system. No flash of light, no cool sound effects, it was just there, as if it had always been orbiting the planet. It lowered a comm array, and began broadcasting the following message.

--Pale Rider Arms would like to offer the Concordiat use of some of our services. Most notable is Beta Necroforming, which will remove all potential for carbon-based sentient life on the surface of the planet it is applied to. This is done by adding a series of bioengineered bacterium which produce various nerve toxins, lethal to all known species in the galaxy, from Space Marines to Shivans. Additional life forms are added, mainly plants that siphon magma from the planetary mantle, increasing volcanic activity. Other lifeforms include various predators and carnivorous plants. We feel that this procedure will eliminate all chances of organic life to continue on the planet. Please, respond to this offer at your earliest convenience.

The Concordiat thanks Otagia for its technology. We welcome any assistance in exterminating the Enemy. In addition, Green Sun has done an excellent job of distributing advice to the nations involved in this conflict, and has insight into our workings.

On the other hand, "madness" is not what we think of war. Madness is a state-of-being. We are not mad. We are mechanical. The Enemy is being exterminated because our programming determines them to be a threat! All threats are to be averted. If we are not mistaken, you too, Kazecistan, are becoming increasingly threatening to our mission here. We will not hesitate to open fire, and we will not miss. Please do not interfere with the extermination of the Enemy and his crooked "Federation."

"I demand you let me go!"
"I cannot."
"That's an order!"
"I hear by declare you unfit for duty. You are endangering not only this crew, but all of Kazecistan." He continues through his captions cries of mutiny. "I am reliving you of command as of now and confining you to quarters."
He was dragged off and the new caption gave his first order. "Get us out of here."
The former caption could still be heard screaming down the hall. "You'll pay for this!"
The ship disappeared without any message.

Green Sun is attempting to deflect the message from No Endorse to prevent them from angering the Mechanicals.
ONI Concordiat
07-06-2005, 02:29
Despite Green Sun's valiant attempts to deflect the message, the Mechanical sensors detected the message nearly as soon as it was sent. They recognized that No Endorse posed no threat, so they logically ignored the problem. They continued to hammer the human fleet, and it still began to get smaller and smaller, with their ships being replaced in many places by spinning and glowing wreckage.
ONI Concordiat
07-06-2005, 03:17
The human fleet shrank to nothingness. Only two severly-damaged OWPs remained, and the Machine ships smaller than the super-dreadnoughts retreated away, as the SDs pummeled the OWPs and the Monitors awaited the arrival of Otagia's Beta Necroforming technology. The Final Stage of the Destruction of the Last Citadel was beginning.

On Cygnus X, the Systems began to restart. SBMHAWKS and PrimaryOWPs activated, as well as seven-hundred light ships and several thousand gunships and fighters. The Concordiat was ready to expand against the breastworks of the Other Nations that surrounded it, and flatten those works like a tide over sandcastles with onrushing waves of unfeeling, utterly committed, and unerring ships. The Tide of War, once thought to swing, was no longer a concern to the Machines. They, themselves, were the Tide.
