“Let me in,” ordered Tobias Grey, standing on the steps of the Imperial Palace, gun in hand, surrounded by his personal guard.
“I am sorry my lord,” replied the White Guard, “But we serve one Emperor and he is not you.”
“I am Emperor, now,” yelled Tobias Grey, "Justinian went mad remember."
"And the doctor is treating him," said another of the White Guard.
“And if you do not allow me to enter my palace, I shall have it stormed by force,” warned Tobias.
“So be it my lord,” said the first guard, “We serve Justinian, and we die for Justinian.”
Several other guards nodded in solemn agreement.
“Fools,” said Grey giving one last dark stare, before turning and leaving.

…And today more clashes between conservative loyalists and government supporters on Verica streets resulted in five deaths and twelve injuries. The government has called for ‘conservative vigilantes’ to stop looking for fights or remain indoors. Once back in office, Tobias Grey found comfort in a cigarette and brandy. “Cowards, traitors, all of them,” cursed Grey, bringing his cigarette back up to his mouth.
“Good Tobias,” said Dan Rickhart, “Did you really think conservative loyalists like the White Guard were just going to let you take over the Imperial Palace?”
“Of course not,” responded Grey, removing the cigarette from his mouth, “But they block us at every turn. Every time I try to use my powers the conservatives launch a Grand Court Challenge, every piece of legislation is vetoed by the conservatives, and now this blatant act of defiance.”
“There is another option Tobias, we could remove our enemies,” said Rickhart cautiously.
“I am aware of that option,” said Grey, “And I suspect the conservatives are too. Reports suggest they are secretly stockpiling weapons before their convention. Any attempt by us to storm the Imperial Palace now will no doubt result in a full scale conservative rebellion.”
“No doubt why the conservatives blocked the re-armament bill,” noted Rickhart, “But if the conservatives are stockpiling weapons, no doubt they plan to rebel regardless of whether we try to remove the White Guard from the palace.”
“They have shown no sign of wanting a fight, except for a few who have picked fights with the black shirt patrol,” observed Grey, “However the conservatives will come to realize the truth behind Justinian’s confinement and the White guard will release him. Then the courts will appoint Justinian, Emperor again. Then Justinian will appoint a completely conservative government in retaliation for my abolition of the coalition.”
“And what do you suggest we do, if Justinian’s return is inevitable.”
“We must strike soon,” said Tobias Grey, “We must ensure the conservatives veto our minimum wage legislation, the public cannot side with them. And we must stike them quickly, wiping them out in a single, quiet blow.”
Tobias Grey cigarette stubbed out his cigarette and the orange light died.
