History: The Freedom MBT started out as the XM-125 MBT, The Silver Sky contacted many nations (Space Union, Pushka, Credonia, and the Soviet Bloc) and many other nations who joined in. (MassPwnage, The Macabees, Duke Barol, GMC Military Arms, and others). The Silver Sky wanted an easily mass-produced MBT that could rival the ST-29 and the T-125, we came up with this, The M-125A1 Freedom MBT, we believe it to be superior to the T-125 in armor (Seeing that Buckyballs don’t bond to shit (Quoted from The Macabees), it also gets rid of many needless energy drainers, and is easily to replace/repair in the field, unlike the T-125 the M-125 does not require the tank crew members to be Engineering graduates. Under the opinion of the nations of Space Union and The Macabees, the M-125 has greater performance then the T-125 in almost every area. Although MassPwnage may have something to say about that.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Weapons:
Main Weapon:
The XM-125A1 Freedom uses 135mm/64 ETC smoothbore cannon with Electro-Thermal Magnetic Assist (easily replaceable, and with dial-a-power setting, allowing extra power for those heavy tanks, or less power for those weak APCs). The ETMAS allows the smoothbore gun all the advantages of a rifled gun, such as increased range and accuracy, with none of the usual disadvantages such as reduced muzzle velocity for APFS rounds and increased barrel wear. It also allows the gun to fire the more simply made APFS rounds over the more complex APFSDS rounds. The system is not, however, required for the operation of the gun and can be disabled to save power.

The Turret:
Uses a proven electric traversing mechanism allowing for quick reaction time and precise aiming, also comes equipped with a hydraulic back-up just in case, the turret is stabilized by 3 gyro-scopes for firing on the move.

The Autoloader:
The auto-loading system is a fairly simple belt feed mechanism with a variable drive extractor arm that rams shells into the breech. It allows for a fire rate of around 12 rounds per minute, give or take allowing for how much charge is put into each individual shell fired. If the auto-loading mechanism fails, the gunner can manually load rounds into the gun’s breech. The auto-loader also includes a hydraulic and mechanical system that follows the gun up, down, and horizontally so the gun does not need to be completely horizontal to load a new round.

The Ammo:

Kinetic Kill Rocket Assisted Sabot: Standard KE round but with a rocket motor to increase range and effectiveness, can be equipped with DU or Tustegen(sp?) warhead.

Subcaliber Kinetic Kill Sabot: A 90mm round’s KE sabot with a 135mm ET cannon’s propellant. Think of the insane speed this KE round is going at.

High Explosive: A high explosive shell for anti-building work and urban combat.

Canister round: Can be proxy detonated to form a kind of shotgun effect with the thousands of titanuim BBs inside: Useful against low flying aircraft and infantry.

High Explosive Cluster Incendiary: Many small pellets of phosphorous and thermite are packed tightly around an ONC explosive. When the explosive goes off, the phosphorous and thermite are heated up and then fly around all over the place setting things on fire.

High Explosive Anti-Tank: A high explosive anti-tank round utilizing a tri-stage warhead to defeat reactive armor. The shaped charge can also be proxy detonated to kill buildings and low flying aircraft.

Secondary weapons:
1x 15.5mm FN Heavy Machine Gun with 2 ammo drums totaling 1,000 rounds mounted co-axle with main gun and can fire up to 750 RPM.
1x 30mm Autocannon mounted in the remote controlled secondary turret, it's used for engageing those pesky choppers and APCs instead of wasting ammo from the main gun. it's ammo is feed from two drums (one of AP and one of HE) which are both linked to the Autocannon allowing for switching from AP and HE rounds without delay. Each drum carries 1,000 rounds.
2x 5.56mm Centrifuge Guns that are linked to the threat detectors and mini Anti-Missiles radar to form a Anti-missile/Infantry system for the tank. The Anti-missile system can detect/fire upon and destroy ATGMs and incoming artillery/mortar shells(Which decreased effectiveness of course.)
*It fires 5.56mm metal projectiles accurately at up to 8,000 fps (feet-per-second), which is possible because of lack of recoil and propellant for the bullets
*Features an infinitely variable/programmable cyclic rate-of-fire (as high as 120,000 rounds-per-minute)
*Electrically powered and virtually silent
*Carries 50,000 rounds of ammo for each gun.
DREAD Weapon System (http://www.military.com/soldiertech/0,14632,Soldiertech_DREAD,,00.html?ESRC=soldiertech.nl)
Long range disruption grenades: The grenade launchers on the tank are connected to all the warning and sensor systems. When the systems detect hostiles, grenades, such as smoke grenades, flashbangs, thermite grenades etc. are fired at the hostiles when the hostiles get within range or simply to mask the presence of the tank. The system consist of 10x 40mm Grenade Launcher racks with 6 grenades each mounted around the tank (60 total) (Can use HE, Smoke, and Thermite Grenades, it can also be used to fire off Chaff canisters and flares) The grenade launchers can be easily reloaded from the inside.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Electronics:
(Modular build systems for easy part replacement)
Shortstop Electronic Protection System: Can prematurely detonate incoming artillery rounds and missiles to help protect the tank and surrounding troops and vehicles. About 90+% Effectiveness in incoming shells (6+inches) and missiles. Also can detonate nearby stores of enemy ammo and suicide bombers.
Onboard Computer System: Consist of a small supercomputer and compiles all data in an easy to process form in order for the tank crew to react more intuitively
Networking System: Allows communication between all MBTs on the ground and headquarters. (Digital, and satellite uplinks)
Radar Jammer: A device that determines the frequency then jams hostile incoming enemy radar. It will not jam radar on the same frequency that allies are using.
Radar Detection System: Standard radar detection system that detects the location of hostile radar signatures.
Omni-Directional panoramic Tank Camera: 5 Omni-Directional panoramic Tank Cameras mounted around the tank (2 on each side and one in the back): The system uses a patent pending omni-directional optics which provides continuous coverage of a 360 degrees field of view without rotation mechanism, and provides the entire vehicle's crew with real-time awareness of the vehicle's surroundings and potential threats outside the vehicle. It is equipped with a video motion detector that can be programmed to selected areas of interest, providing real-time alerts. The system utilizes a high resolution digital camera mounted on masts placed on the upper turret. The system feeds the processed images to the computerized display which is installed in the tank. Also is equipped with a thermal/infra-red sight.
Search Radar: Search radar that does a 360 degree scan of the surrounding area every 1/3rd of a second. The search radar can find low profile or airborne targets as well as tanks.
Tracking Radar: A track radar tracks enemies in a 270 degree arc in front of and to the sides of the tank. Another device tracks enemies to the rear of the tank.
Millimetric Wave Radar: High powered millimetric wave radar used as a radar rangefinder.
Search and Tracking LIDAR: see Search and Tracking RADAR
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Targeting and Input Systems:
(Again built in modules for easy replacement)
Target Control System: Can track up to 100 targets at once.
Fire Control System: The fire control system rapidly complies and computes wind, distance, weather, gravity, potential air resistance, MOA, shell ballistics and the nature/speed of the given target and makes final adjustments to the cannon before firing.
Digital target tracking/rotating periscope system: (DTTRPS, it is digital to prevent the tank commander from being blinded by lasers) The tank commander can use it to focus on a potential target, find the range with a built in advanced Laser/LIDAR range finder (A high powered LIDAR range finder with a high powered processing unit. 3 high powered beams are fired, thus making each measurement more accurate and making the beams more difficult to scramble), lock the periscope onto the target, hands over control to the gunner who then lines up the DTTRPS range finder with the main gun’s range finder and fires.
Digital Imaging System: 5 digital cameras mounted in front of the driver’s position that work together to create a digital picture of the battlefield. It is useful because it allows the driver to drive without opening a big hole in the glacis for enemies to shoot into.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Armor:
The Armor is built in mass-produced modules, doing so makes for easier for maintenance crews to replace damaged tanks without having to send them back to the plants. A nation with a good logistics command should be able to replace a tank within 30-45 minutes; also since they are mass produced undamaged modules from a destroyed tank can be used to repair a damaged tank cutting down on maintenance time drastically. The M-125A1’s armor is nearly impenetrable. It stops every type of round imaginable, from KE rounds, to HEAT rounds. It’s psychologically satisfying to serve in a tank designed with the safety of the crew specifically in mind, as told from test crews.

Overriding armored layer - Two layers of Kontackt-5 ERA bricks (RHA value of 1200mm against HEAT and 600mm against KE) painted with RAM materials. The 2 layers of ERA are used to render all Dual-stage and most Tri-stage HEAT rounds useless and it also hampers KE projectile by slicing and or disfiguring the projectile or turning it at an angle to decrease it’s effectiveness
2nd Layer - 25mm of AMAP (Advanced MEXAS) (1200mm of RHA armored value against HEAT and 200mm against KE)
3rd Layer - Chobham Composite armor (mixed layers/fibers of plastic, ceramics, titanium boride, depleted uranium, etc.) (600mm RHA against KE, and 1200mm against HEAT)
4th Layer - Ceramics and titanium boride (300mm RHA against KE, and 800mm against HEAT)
5th Layer - Mirrors 3rd Layer (RHA is 600mm vs. KE and 1200mm vs. HEAT)
6th Layer - A titanium/tungsten honeycomb matrix to further absorb impact, and a thick sheet of boronated plasti-steel to absorb radiation. (RHA is 100mm vs. KE and 400mm vs. HEAT)
Last Layer - Anti-Spall Liner (thick spectra/fracture proof polymer resin sheeting on the inside to prevent internal armor from fracturing and flying around.)

The approximate Total RHA armour values are as follows:

Front: 2,600mm (KE) / 4,000mm (HEAT)
Side: 1,300mm (KE) / 2,000mm (HEAT)
Rear: 650mm (KE) / 1,000mm (HEAT)

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Masking Systems:
Infrared masking system: A series of high specific heat engine/gun liners, and excellent heat sinks reduce the infrared signature of the tank.
Radar masking system: The paint soaks up radar, as does many of the polymer resins used in the armor of the tank.
Electrical discharge masking system: A system that controls and minimizes excess electricity, while storing waste electricity and heat in extra batteries and the compulsator.
Sound masking system: A conventional system of buffers and a white noise generator. Also the entire tank is painted in a classified solution called Quiet Sound received from Space Union, the entire system reduces sound emissions by 15 decibels.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Engine:
(Easily replaceable because of modular build, the engine is no bigger then the diesel turbine used on the M1 Abrams)
The engine is a diesel-electric hybrid rotary engine capable of making 2500hp (more like 2200hp in combat). The engine can be set to run in many different ways. The primary method of operation is that only part of the of diesel runs the tank, while another part charges the batteries. If the tank needs to get somewhere fast, both the batteries and the diesel are engaged at once. Also, only the batteries can be engaged. While battery only drive is engaged the tank is completely silent. Operation modes can be chosen by the driver automatically or manually. The entire engine system is cooled by several efficient heat sinks and a liquid cooled radiator with a self sealing tank (to prevent liquid spillage) and is cordoned off from the rest of the tank by armored bulkheads that prevent fuel/engine explosions from killing the crew. The engine also includes a powerful compulsator to hard line power to the batteries and the tanks electronics.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Transmission:
The transmission is a proven automatic hydraulic transmission (with a manual back-up), this allows for a very good easily replaceable transmission without the complexity of an electrostatic transmission.

Suspension:
The suspension is a tried and true Hydraulic suspension system, with a mechanical back-up; this keeps the cost of repair and manufacturing down to a minimum while still retaining a very good suspension system.

Track/Wheels: (easily replaceable)
The new wheel and track system combines some old, proven technology with new and revolutionary technology. The tracks are double pinned, heavy duty, landmine resistant, high traction pieces of equipment that are resistant to many of the dangers faced by tank tracks on previous generation tanks. The wheels are also reinforced, to prevent breakage.

The first layer is made up of metal, with a pin in the center. Attached to each of the pins is a panel of the 2nd layer of track, which is constituted out of a heat and concussion resistant, high impact, yet flexible high grip polymer similar to the industrial sealant used to join the tracks. The 2nd layer and the pins can easily be replaced if they are blown off in combat.

The wheels and roller components are hugely strengthened to prevent battle damage. The rollers and wheels are strengthened by high strength carbon fiber composites and tungsten carbide spokes running through them. They can resist fire from up to 30mm rounds and a several light anti-vehicle mines or one heavy anti-vehicle mine.
The tracks are wide enough to give maneuverability superior to the T-125.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Other Notes:

The tank also has an energy reclamation system to reclaim power from the ETC and ETMAS when fired.

The main turret has blast resistant doors and storage containers for the ammo and blow-out panels to prevent HEAT rounds from detonating the ammo inside and killing the crew.

The secondary turret is manufactured separately from the main turret and then attached to than main turret during manufacturing. It’s powered via electric motors with a back up hydraulic system, this makes it easier to replace damaged secondary turrets and keeps HEAT and KE hits on the secondary turret from harming the crew below as the blast is vented up and out and allows for fast replacement of the turrets, and if you wanted you could send the tanks into battle without the secondary turret.

EMP Hardening System: A protection system against EMPs that protects the engine, the core computer systems, and the drive controls against EMPs. Also, there is an emergency EMP shutoff system to prevent EMPs from destroying peripherals.

NBC Protection System: Protects from Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical Weapons.

Internal design is such that everything is in easy sight and reach for the crew members. All the sensors have their information compiled into a single, easy to access HUD system by the main computer. The turret and driving space are quite roomy, the seats comfortable, and heat and air conditioning are provided, as well as quadruple layered air purification systems to prevent poisonous gas and bioengineered super viruses from getting to the crew as well as dehumidifying the air. The tank has optional water purification system in the case that the crew is far from base and has to perform a mission of time duration longer than normal.

Reinforced Frame: The reinforced frame is made from heat resistant carbon fiber reinforced with titanium, and ballistics ceramics.

[OOC: This is quite a nice tank, but I agree completely with Zepplin Manufacturers on the points he mentioned. The old pic was horribly slab-sided. I also the like the way you copy/pasted the bit on Electromagnetic-Rifling from my Phalanx (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=423500) ;).

I would advise you to drop the speed, however, seeing as this weighs 82 tonnes and yet somehow moves faster than the 62 tonne Challenger II.]

Actually the idea is from MassPwnage, I decided to use it in the design from the begining, almost 1 1/2 months ago, I didn't even know what EM rifling was until now.
I would drop the speed but the 75 ton M1A2 Abrams goes 10mph (Somewhere around there) faster then the Challenger II.

While the Colonial Army Command does not intend to replace the ST-29E1 Zver (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=412894&page=1) that is currently in our service with the M-125A1 Freedom, we do believe that the M-125A1 is a capable tank, and would be a formidable foe on any battlefield.

The M-125A1 tanks that the Democratic Colonies intends to manufacture, instead of being issued to active military units, will instead be issued to the Colonial Army Combat Simulation Corps, a five division strong training group that takes the role of the 'opposing force' in simulated combat exercises. It is believed that while the M-125A1 Freedom is not suitable for general use in the Colonial Army at this time, as our ST-29E1 tanks are performing excellently, the M-125A1 is still a highly advanced, capable vehicle, and thus could be of value to the Democratic Colonies in select roles such as that of 'role-playing' the 'opposing force' in our training.

The Colonial Government and the Colonial Army Command would like to congratulate The Silver Sky for successfully leading the multi-national development team that designed the M-125A1, for it is a very fine Main Battle Tank.

OOC:

I'm sorry if you feel insulted by my intended use of the M-125A1. I didn't mean to say that the M-125A1 is not a highly advanced and capable tank, which I stressed in the IC post, but DC already has ST29E1 tanks in service. A change would be hideously expensive, especially since the change from M1A2 Abrams tanks to ST29E1 Zver tanks only happened recently. Two Main Battle Tank changes for an entire army in less than 5 years would cost a fortune.

Essentially, the Army Combat Simulation Corps fields low quality tanks like M60 Pattons to to train tank crews to fight against the tanks of poor nations, medium quality tanks like the M1 Abrams to train tank crews to fight against the tanks of moderately wealthy nations, and high quality tanks like the M-125A1 Freedom to train tank crews to fight against the tanks of highly wealthy nations.

The fact that the M-125A1 will be manufactured for the Army Combat Simulation Corps does not mean that DC considers it to be a poor tank. Indeed, it means that it is considered to be a high performance tank since it has been chosen to fill the role of the third tier "high quality" slot in the organizational system. It's similar to if the United States Air Force had a squadren of MiG-29s, they wouldn't deploy them - the US already has F-15s. So what might the USAF do? They might put the MiG-29s to work in 'aggressor' squadrens, where they 'roleplay' as an opposing force to teach F-15 pilots how to effectively fight high performance fighters. It's not an insult against the MiG-29, but more like saying "we can learn things by fighting you". DC feels this way about the M-125A1.

Yeah, I know, and a better version of my tank (completely redone turret and a semi-redone main body along with redon electronics will be out by saturday), so this whole thing won't matter.

After a quick review of your economy and defence budget we have found that you lack the funds to purchase and supply these tanks, should you wait for a few years (1 NS year=1 Real life day) we will have a new version of the M-125 out for sale and if your budget allows for it we will gladly let you purchase some.

OOC: I check your defence budget using this (http://www.thirdgeek.com/nseconomy/nseconomy.php?nation=Devon+Land) and found that 1.3 Billion if half of your total defence budget, you have 2.6 billion a year for your defence budget, that includes Army, Navy, Air Force and train and equipping all your troops, you would have spent half of your defence budget to buy 100 tanks, not good.
