OOC: Any nation can roleplay their media quizing the candidates, but please remember I'm just one man. This may mean that in order to fairly roleplay the reactions of polar characters to tough political question may take some time, if questions become backed up. Cheers. (Other thread under alias)
IC:
A transparent flag graphic flickers over pictures of debating candidates, begining with black and white footage and changing to recent debates. As the music fades, the graphics fade into the shot of a large wooden stage where eight glass podiums.
An attractive woman in a white suit walks onto stage. The text on the screen reads: Melissa Townsend: Reporter for RNN.
"Good evening ladies and gentlemen of the press. In the tradition established by President Hewings, I invite you to question the integrity and ability of those contending the highest office in the land. This footage is being veiwed in over 2,500 nations and by 2 Billion Rotovian citizens. Please make welcome the contenders in this year's race!"
A re-mixed version of the Rotovian anthem plays as the candidates begin to file on stage.
"Running for re-election, President Dionysus Baccheus, Chairman of the Royal Political Society of the Liberal Party of Rotovia and Member for Athens..."
"Vice President Julia Aptiva, Chairman of the Royal Politcal Society of the Republican Party of Rotovia, Member for Lionel"
"Senator Thomans Crusch, Chairman of the Royal Political Society of the Conservative Party of Rotovia, Member for Sparta"
"Senator, Doctor, Andrew Heywood, Chairman of the Royal Political Society of the Communist Party of Rotovia, Member for Thebes"
"Dr Sarah Hours, Member of the Royal Society of Liberal Party of Rotovia, contesting the Seat of Idoleta"
"Senator Frank Chesela, Member of the Royal Political Society of Republican Party of Rotovia, Member for Outyl"
"Mr Peter Gothing, Member of the Royal Politcal Society of the Conservative Party of Rotovia"
"Ms Jane Weaver, Member of the Royal Politcal Society of the Communist Party of Rotovia... The floor is open to questions..."
The reporter walks accross to a golden chair to the left of the stage and takes a seat. On a smal table to her right is a series of bells and a microphone.
Earlier Responses:
Jonothan Remarque, Amatron's best-known columnist and political analyst, strides to the podium to ask a question.
"This question is initially directed to President Baccheus," he begins. "Sir, the United Nations has described your government as 'a sprawling, bureaucracy-choked . . . morass' and your politics as 'strong[ly] anti-business.' What are your plans to streamline your government, should you be reelected, and to remove the vast amounts of red tape that stifle efficient government in Carthagenian Athens? Additionally, do you have any plans to improve Carthagenian Athens's economy by adopting a more business-friendly economic policy?" "I remind you an all Rotovians that my nation has the lowest un-employment rate in our region. One of the key reasons for this, is our ability to maintain a strong and stable federal bereaucracy to ensure consistent employment. Whilst I remain dedicated reducing the overall costs of running my government, I can assure that if you are looking for someone to put millions of people out of work, you are voting for the wrong man.
You accuse me of being anti-bussiness? I prefer to be considered as pro-Rotovian. Yes, I believe that a lower cost of living and higher quality of life is more important the ability of large corporations to increase their profit margins. That said I do understand and respect the importance of a thriving free market economy.
I believe that I should be re-elected based upon the fact that my so-called anti-bussiness polices have brought Rotovian to it's highest level of economic prosperity to date"
George Koult, Undelian foreign correspondent for the Undelian News Network, after hearing Remarque’s question chimes in. “Yes, tell us how you justify your blatant contempt for corporations and obviously your people’s well-being by extension?”"There is nothing I place higher than my people's wellbeing, not even my own life. I believe it is a myth that in order to foster a thriving economy one must ignore the needs of one's people. I will continue to promote the right of my people to live a joyous and free lifestyle whilst maintaining a focus on economic prosperity. And let me make it quite clear that prosperity means to me that noone, NOONE gets left behind"
