Under Pressure from protesters and politicians, Premier Hunztach Windarzx relinquished his power over the Congress, which recently he had begun to selectively dismiss. His abdication caused celebration for the protesters who
had been encamped around the National Assembly for days demanding he step down and allow elections to take place.
The Former Premier resigned amid accusations that he had been centralizing power around himself and that he was effectively strangling democracy. These accusations were not hindered by the fact that he had long overstayed his term in office, making no effort to scheduel elections after his term expired 20 years ago.
As Democratic Socialist Party leader Akyra Nuvoulles mused "These elections could very well usher in a truly democratic Psov, something we have yet to see from our elected leaders for generations."
