OOC: The Imperium of Man
Chronosia

Ok, there are a few Imperium of Man based nations out there, Chronosia being one of them before its fall. However, there has never been an RP to show how so many different nations have such similar technology. My aim, and the aim I invite you to join me in, is going back to the Imperium; to a dark past that lies behind us, a dark father that birthed us. We will RP and show what happened to the Imperium; how it came apart into our respective nations, and how we now cope with its loss.
Hopefully this project will aid those who need to write a WH40K Imperium based history, or those seeking relics of the past, but once and for all, we need a comprehensive NS timeline account of what happened to the Imperium of Man.
Whos with me?
Otagia: Adeptus Mechanicus/Void Dragon Necron'tyr
Chronosia: Chaos Space Marines; Black Legion.
Theao: Orkz
Valshare: Eldar
Askira: Tau
Azaha: Imperium- Grey Knights/Ordo Malleus
Doomingsland: Chaos Space Marines; Word Bearers
Snake Eaters: IOM, Black Angels Space Marines.
I'm somewhat interested. And yes, even though I don't look it, I AM a 40K spin-off nation. And yes, that IS a KK Drive strapped to the front of my ship, thank you very much.

:) There we go, thats what I like to see.

Now we have to think of a foundation. How did it happen? Did it degrade slowly, did it break apart in one final titanic battle? Regardless, I think we can ascertain without doubt that the old Imperium of Man is dead. Therefore, we would start our RP/History in the last days of the Imperium
I for one vote for a massive battle. Not only is it more interesting to RP, it also makes sense. The Imperium is on the verge of collapse after the 13th Black Crusade, as Cadia has been ravaged possibly beyond salvation. The 14th Crusade, then, would be able to destroy the Imperium once and for all. The battle would go to the gates of Sol, and past. The battle would be titantic, but Chaos would have the advantages of sheer numbers of traitors and the Chaos Legions. Eventually, Terra itself cracks, and is destroyed. Relics of the Emperor would be retrieved by fleeing Loyalists, who form the basis for 40K nations that claim to have the Emperor on their side. Chaos, being what it is, is unable to sustain an empire, and splits into squabbling Warlords again. These would form nations such as you, Chronosia.
Chronosia

Yeah, sounds very good, but I was Imperium before I turned Chaos
Then you would most likely be in the former group, corrupted by Slaanesh (and others, I assume. I'm going by the Ecstacy of Slaanesh here).
Another possible group would be those who threw in with Xenos in order to survive. I would belong to this group. Twas a group of Tau, whose tech I learnt, and then killed them to the last man. Repeat with Eldar. After much of this, I become less Xenophobic and have developed QUETZAL.

Well, we were loyal, before the Gods of Chaos corrupted us, countless years after the fall of the IoM. We were forced to serve the Dark gods, and now do so with relish. Slaughtering for Khorne, torturing for Slaaneshing, spreading disease in Nurgles name, and seeking out arcane power for Tzeentch

Anyone else interested in mapping and settling this important source of many nations technology?
If you have any need for an ork player I'd fill that role.
Chronosia

This work must be speeded forth, we must act soon to finally, once and for all, end the mystery of why so many nations have IoM tech, and what actually happened to the Imperium. Corrupted from within? Shattered from without? Hit by a depression? Perhaps a Warp Tsunami? How did it end, who will help me?
Chronosia

We can assume that the beginning of the end comes about after the 13th Black Crusade. Cadia is weakened, entire systems are wrought with anarchy and war...Not only could Chaos finally break through, but countless opportunitist races could sweep through to purge the Imperium.
Should there be survivors? Or should no being survive the fall of the Imperium? What occurs that destroys the defenders of Mankind, and shatters its worlds?

I like this idea, it would be a nice RP, although i dont use IoM tech in my nation, as i wiped the Imperial Guard from the kraven nation after the civil war, i could RP the creation of the 101st, i like this idea though, although i belive the reason for a lot of the loss of the technologies is because man pretty much forgot and misplaced them...
*Shifty*
I saw Chaos finally over takes everything... IoM scatters, people salvage technology...
Then the thing that brings down the Chaos ti a minimum... yet another Tyranid hive fleet. More ensueing battles... chaos and 'nids fight, Orks join in for the hell of it(Of course), slowly they wipe each other out, and the last vestiges of the races is what the FT NS currently is now with all that have the 40k technology....
And the remainder of that hive fleet settled on my world, yay!
Chronosia

And of course the Machine God would reveal himself as the Void Dragon (MArs= Vaul Moon, Forgeworld). Thus there would be both widespread and central betrayal of the IoM; especially so close to Terra
"The Machine God is a False God! And it feeds! It feeds!"
A second Heresy. The Iron Hands and much of the Adeptus Mechanicus defect, showing their true allegiance to their "Machine God," The Dragon. With Necrontyr technology, Mars would be able to at least stale-mate Battlefleet Sol.
Meanwhile, the forces of Chaos, mobilizing the entirity of their vast legions (remember, the Chaos Legions are still full sized and have superior fleets, compared to the now puny Adeptus Asartes), smashing through the Cadian Gate. Cadia is rendered sterile, only the Pylons remaining. The Legions now march on Sol.
When Chaos arrives, the Mechanicus and Chaos Titan Legions stride on Terran soil for the first time in almost twenty thousand years. Together, the Necrontyr and Chaos beseige the planet, the C'Tan claiming the life energy, and the Chaos Gods devouring the souls of the "sacrifices." The Emperor is defeated, his Titans destroyed, the Adeptus Custodes routed. The planet is drained of all life, and is abandoned. Eventually, survivors from the colonies return, eventually forming FT NS Earth/Terra.
The colonies also suffer greatly, many being destroyed. After ages, they are able to restore civilization, discover new tech, etc. Many name their home planets after their ancestral home, Earth/Terra. They become many of the human nations.
The Eldar watch, and seeing the results of these events before hand, risk all by using Warp travel. Many die, but they manage to hurl themselves into intergalactic space, beyond the reach of all. After countless years, they return, some changed, some just like the Eldar we know and love. They form the nations of the Eldar. Having gone so long without danger to them, they have multiplied, restoring their numbers.
Ultramar would hold out longer, being tightly knit and protected by several space marine legions. Of course, they're beseiged by the Nids, so they would not be able to come to the aid of the Emperor (Shadow in the Warp).
Tau will be Tau, I'm not sure what would happen to them, as they have great tech and decent numbers. That and they're not above allying with Chaos if neccessary (it's for the Greater Good, after all...).
Turns out I am now Daemon Hunters with the old Ordo Mallues.
They could not prevent the chaos from taking over, so they fled in order to fight another day, and thus my old old country incoprated them into their army, and then that's that.

Titan would be crushed beneath the Traitors bootheels :P
And of course, only a few would get away. And, you don't have Archon anymore
No, I don't, and that will probably be the main stay of my new DH's RP, hunting down the traitor and killing him.

Ok, now; back to the main issue. Whos with me on Rping this out, and who has more ideas?
Great contribution Otagia.
I'm moving into Post-MT (2020 - 2050 timeframe), but I keep seeing lots of 40k stuff around. I have always wanted to learn about 40k.
What's the backstory?
What is the 40k universe like?
Who are the main races?
What kind of technology or capabilities the races have?
Stuff like that. I know a bit about Star Trek and Star Wars, like their history, races, ships, etc. but I wanna learn about 40k.

It is the 41st Millenium, and there is only war. Ruled over by the eternal Emperor, who lies within the Golden throne, fed by the lifes of countless sacrifices, the Imperium of Man fights against the forces of the alien, the mutant and the heretic. Beset from within and without, the countless millions of humanity are protected by the IMperial Guard and the Adeptus Astartes; the Space Marines. It is a universe of war, eternal war for survivial or conquest. From the ravenous hordes of the Tyrannids; to the everpresent threat of the primal Ork. From the advanced and diminishing Eldar, to the hordes of Chaos and the traitor Space Marine Legions. Other races such as the young and dynamic Tau also inhabit the Universe.
Ok, I'm done with my part, anyone else wanna explain a bit to Sharina. That or link a good info site :P
First, a map. Note that only systems mentioned in books are here, so there's billions more.

There we go, that covers pretty much every group, excepting odd little things such as Squads, Hrud, and much of the conspiracy theories and backstory. I'll try to find those next, and while I do, please remember that ANYTHING written by Games Workshop tends to be from the viewpoint of the Imperium and is strongly biased towards them.
OMG! Thank you soooooo much, Otagia!
(Lies prostate before Otagia, praying "Thank you" for several minutes)
I appreciate your effort and help in educating me about the 40k universe. When and if I go FT, I might dabble some in 40k, because from what it sounds, it looks like a really kick-ass universe.
Thanks, Sharina. Now, for the next topic of education for those not in the know:
Star Vessels and the Warp
For nearly every race, FTL travel is done via the Warp, a parallel dimension of pure energy and madness. This realm is populated by Daemons, spawned from the desires and emotions of the sentient races. These Daemons are lorded over by the four Chaos gods, beings fed by such wide-spread occurences they command the obedience of nearly everything in the Warp. These four Gods are Khorne, the God of War and Bloodshed; Slaanesh, Prince of Excess and Pleasure; Nurgle, Lord of Pestilence, Plague and Famine; and Tzeench, God of Magic and Knowledge, the Changer of the Ways. These beings constanty war amongst themselves, as well as against the mortal beings of the physical plane.
Starships in 40K are massive behemoths, one of the smallest warp-capable ships, the Cobra Escort Destroyer (http://www.merzo.net/images/2mppBattlefleetGothicCobra.gif) , is a full three kilometers long. One of the largest Imperium of Man (Chaos and Necrons have larger) vessels is the Retribution Class Battleship, (http://www.merzo.net/images/10mppBloodHawk.gif) which measures 7.5 kilometers. They utilize Warp drives to move into the Warp (an action called Warp Translation), where they are protected by sacred (or profane, for Chaos) runes. Warp drives themselves are giant, forming the Cathedrals seen on most Imperial and Chaos vessels.
It is possible for a ship to make short warp jumps of about four to five light years with a certain degree of accuracy. However, over longer distances it is necessary to steer through warp space itself. The warp is like an ocean, with currents, storms and tides that must be used or avoided. For the Imperium, only the mutated Navigators are able to see the shifting eddies of the warp and direct a ship between them, thus steering the ship towards its ultimate destination. Even the Navigators need a point of reference, and this is provided by the immensely powerful psychic beacon known as the Astronomican. Guided by the minds of ten thousand speciallytrained human psykers on Terra, the Astronomican pulses outwards 70,000 light years to the furthest reaches of the galaxy. A Navigator can sense the beam of the Astronomican and use it to plot his course. Weaker, shorter-ranged astropathic ducts and beacons are also used to mark out shipping
lanes and to aid navigation through treacherous areas of the warp.
Necron vessels use an unknown method of FTL travel, seemingly appearing from nowhere. Their infantry use a similar method to arrive on worlds. Seemingly, the Necrons have mastered true teleportation.
Thanks once again for the info, Otagia!
So does this mean that Chronosia's nation is basically humankind corrupted by the demons and leaders of the Warp space?
That's exactly what it means.
But the Tau are by far the best. They're a bunch of imperialistic collectivist goat people.

That's exactly what I am; the Big Bad; the kernal of the Lords of Chaos (The central part, not a military typo :P). Chronosia seeks to expand, enslave, corrupt...but its also learned the need for diplomacy. Marcus De Drakan, the Daemon Emperor, was once a Space Marine; one of skill; one who survived the fall of the Imperium of Man, and eventually foudn his way back to Earth after being lost for centuries in the Warp. He found Chronosia, and led them to the stars. At the height of his Empire, based on the Imperium itself; it was corrupted; he was corrupted and granted Daemonhood. Bearing the Daemonsword Runeblade Lifesbane, he leads the Chronosian Imperium with his decadent and corrupt Primarch Sons; Remiel, Lucian, Cabot, Severino and Gabriel (Listed more or less in order of importance)

Awesome, Chronosia. That sounds like a pretty exciting nation to RP, being able to use demons and sci-fi all at once, as well as having a nice backstory to it.
I'd like to RP with you and some other FT nations when I make my hop into FT (which won't be for a bit, as I've just moved into Post-MT setting).

If we can have two Necron RPers, sign me up! Otherwise, put me up for some Eldaring. If I can't do either of those, then someone'll have to link me to info about the other races before I could RP them properly.
You can join in as Necrons/Adeptus Mechanicus, but be aware that you either use a different faction than the Void Dragon (who owns the Mechanicus), or serve the Void Dragon (who I have dibs on already).

The Tau believe that now is their time. It is their race and their empire that will bring unity to all. There is no foe their technology cannot overcome, no quandary their science cannot resolve. The very stars will be reforged in the name of the Greater Good.

I can help you there. The C'tan, right? You've heard of them, the Nightbringer, the Deciever etc. Well, they all went into stasis. The Void Dragon is yet another of these C'tan. He/It is on Mars. It is currently worshipped by the Adeptus Mechanius as Deus Ex Mechinus - literally translated as the Machine God. As such, you have the most powerful C'tan imprisoned a stones throw away from Terra.

Little bit of blurb for you:
The Black Angels. The Adeptus Astartes' dark little secret. Forged on Terra itself, they were the attempt of the Space Marines to reclaim what some saw as their former glory, before the traitor Legions had escaped from the righteous fury of the Immortal Emperor. The death of his beloved son, Sanguinius, had driven the Blood Angels, previously the most pure of all the Legions, into near insanity. This was only one of the defects that was aimed to be hammered out with the formation of the Black Angels.
Over the centuries, the Adeptus Mechanius had tried, largely in vain, to create a functioning geneseed, combining all the best traits from the highest Chapters of the Adeptus Astartes. The fierce loyalty and devotion of the Ultramarines, the close combat fury of the Blood Angels and Space Wolves, the seige wars of the Imperial Fists, the tenacity of the Dark Angels, the speed of the Raven Claws... the list went on and on. After centuries, a stable batch was finally created. All it needed was a batch of willing subjects...
And they found them. A Chapter, built from scratch, in greatest secrecy. Some whispered that the Emperor himself did not know of their existence. Eventually, a Chapter of one thousand strong stood before the first Chapter Master of the Black Angels. Their armour was jet-black, the shoulder plates of the power armour rimmed with the blue of the Ultramarines. Emblazoned upon each was his squad markings, and also the mark of the Black Angels. An inverted Omega sign, coupled with the winged tear of blood seen on the Blood Angels. Upon his chest, each bore the Imperial Eagle in the starkest white. The eye sockets of their helmets were a deep crimson. The Chapter was ready for war. Fully equipped and trained, they were sent first to the Eastern Fringe, where they won some renown fighting the Tyranid hordes. Next, they were re-located closer to the Eye of Terror, a force to fight Chaos. They participated heavily in repelling Abaddon's 13th Black Crusade, holding up his forces long enough for the attack upon the Cadian Gate to falter, and then eliminated piecemeal.
But times had changed. They had come under investigation from the Inquistion for their methodolgy at times, and some even said that they were redeemed Chaos Marines, possibly some of the Fallen
Battle Cry: "NO FEAR! NO RETREAT!" - This contradicts the one some of you may have seen before (Chronosia in particular), but they changed it following these events, alright?
