Drive to Damascus: The Conquest of Syria (Earth 13.75)

Nicosia, Cyprus, Geisenfried
Grand Office, The Royal Residence

Within the hallowed halls of the Royal Residence, King Alexander and his advisors, primarily the three Grand Marshals of the Military had long been discussing a topic that would have great consequence, no matter what the decision. In particular, the most heated debate was between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Duke Reginald Xanka and Grand Marshal Wilhelm Jamitov, head of the Royal Army.

"For what reason do we need Syria! Cyprus and Lebanon serve our purposes fine. An action like invading Syria might be catastrophic for us within the international community!"

"I don't see Roach Busters, the Parthians, the Great Sixth Reich of the Generic Empire being decried, despite their blatant acts of imperialism. We need more living space on the mainland, and Syria almost completely surrounds Lebanon. Also, Syria has large amounts of supplies that would benefit the entirety of Geisenfried..."

"That's bullshit, Wilhelm! You know compared to them, we're nothing. If we tried to do something like them, they wouldn't hesitate to claim that we'd attack them next, and then run us over before anything could happen! Think of Geisenfried here, not your stupid imperialistic ideas."

"No. No nation would attack us and not attack someone else for doing the same thing, without losing face from the international community."

"Enough! Wilhelm, Reginald, cease this bickering!"

"Yes, your majesty..."

"I have decided. A declaration announcing our annexation of Syria is to occur within the hour. Grand Marshals Wilhelm, Anthony, and Nicholas... if they do not accept it, force it upon them."

"Yes, your majesty."

The three grand marshals left, Wilhelm having a broad smirk across his face.

"Reginald, your concerns are valid, but Wilhelm makes a point... why would someone attack us, and not them, for the same exact thing?"

“But… please, your majesty, reconsider…”

“No. The decision is final.”

Syrian-Lebanese Border

As expected, the Syrians had refused the offer of annexation. And, as expected, Geisenfried retaliated with a blitzkrieg attack. Syrian border defenses had all but broken, as thousands of Knight MBTs, Sentinel III Howitzer, Cougar ATVs, and Crusader IFVs, and near half a million troops raced across the border, mercilessly barraging Syrian defense forces. The Geisenfried Royal Air Force obliterated concentrated Syrian positions with ruthless bombing operations. As the first day of war settled, Geisenfried forces had already almost reached the Syrian capital of Damascus. Many were hopeful that the entire war and annexation would be completed within the week's end. Whether that would be accomplished or not would soon be found out.

((OOC: The military part of the post would have been better, but I'm somewhat in a rush right now...))

From the Desk of the King

Geisenfried appreciates Roach-Busters statement. As a small symbol of gratitude, we'll send you a couple thousand barrels of oil taken from our new territory of Syria. Once we deal with the rebel insurgence there.

Respectfully,
His Royal Majesty, King Alexander I

Operation Impala: Second Day Objectives

As a new dawn rose over Syria, Geisenfried forces resumed their march, determined to eradicate remaining rogue Syrian personnel. To quicken securing the territory, Operation Impala forces from Geisenfried split into Alpha, Bravo and Charlie groups, with each group securing a part of Syria. The air force would support all three without splitting up, as Syria was small enough to be able to fly around quickly.

Alpha Group
Having the important task of securing the Syrian capital at Damascus, Alpha Group set off with a large force of Sentinel III self-propelled howitzers. The plan was to force Damascus to submit by a constant bombardment from a large amount of these guns. The other forces were mainly there to protect the bombardment forces from enemy counterattack.

Forces:
100,000 Infantry
1,000 Knight MBTs
1,125 Sentinel III Howitzers
1,000 Cougar ATVs
600 Crusader IFVs

Bravo Group
Bravo Group had a long march ahead of them, as they had been chosen to go to the far corner of Syria. However, they passed through less populated and wide spreading areas, so they were given a majority of the tanks to accomplish their objectives. Since their first major population area sits farther away than the force can reach without completing their objectives of securing the full area, Bravo Group has a rather easy second day.

Forces:
250,000 Infantry
2,000 Knight MBTs
750 Sentinel III Howitzers
1,500 Cougar ATVs
500 Crusader IFVs

Charlie Group
Charlie Group had arguably the hardest job-they had to go through the cities and sweep through any insurgent forces. To accomplish this, they are given an ample amount of troops, as well as a higher number of IFVs. Their objectives for the second day are to secure the cities of Tartus and Hamah... not an easy task.

Forces:
400,000 Infantry
1,500 Knight MBTs
1,125 Sentinel III Howitzers
1,000 Cougar ATVs
900 Crusader IFVs

"Fascinating, though I do say their tactics are rudimentary at best. Simple blitz and go."

"I noticed as much, though I don't presume that there are many left who take to tactical finesse these days. Look at Africa."

"Hmm, I see your point. Does it pose a security risk?"

"You know as well as I that it doesn't. Should General Dmitriev see fit to sway the council in that direction, we could swallow them whole, though we're making sure he won't succeed if he decides to."

"I figured as much. Do we have people in Damascus?"

"A station in the embassy, but we abandoned it at the start of the war. All compromising data was destroyed. We left a few agents in country. I can't hurt to have eyes and ears on the ground should the international climate...shift."

"Quite. Very well. That's all we have to discuss here. Dismissed."

((OOC: I have much more tatical finesse, but sometimes a straight out blitz is the best thing to do. Sure, I could come up with some strategy like a feint or something, but it doesn't really have any point when its unneccessary.))

Operation Impala: Third Day Objectives

Alpha Group
Syrian resolve had been underestimated, costing Alpha Group time in its operations, as Damascus had yet to surrender. In order to make up, Alpha Group leaves the howitzers at Damascus with a small force to defend the howitzers, while the rest move into As Suwayda, and towards the Syrian-Jordan border.

Damascus Forces:
25,000 Infantry
1,125 Sentinel III Howitzers
500 Knight MBTs
500 Cougar ATVs
250 Crusader IFVs

As Suwayda Forces:
75,000 Infantry
500 Knight MBTs
500 Cougar ATVs
350 Crusader IFVs

Bravo Group
Moving through Syria with ease and momentum, Bravo Group now came within reach of Tadmur, the first major Syrian city they had come to. With luck, Bravo Group hoped to reach the Euphrates by the end of the day.

-No change in forces-

Charlie Group
Again stuck with a daunting task of securing more cities, Charlie Group began sweeping through the Syrian coastal cities of Baniyas, Jablah, and Latakia.

-No change in forces-

((OOC: For those of you wondering, casualties will be posted at the end of the invasion.))
