The Earth Fantastic (interest thread, OOC)

Seeing as there seems to be an Earth for everything BUT this, I figure it might be a fun to set this up.

The idea is that this would take place on Earth, obviously, using purely fantasy-type nations. Whatever sort of creatures you want, provided you can keep them non-godmodish somehow, including Humans (knights in shining armour and such).
If this proves popular a history can be written up shortly to provide a bit of background.

By 'fantasy' I mean dragons, Goblins (hehe), ogres and suchlike. Minor acts of God(s) within your own country are acceptable, provided (obviously) that they arent godmodish.
Any other ideas? Questions? Comments?

So basically a fantasy tech world?

Basicaly, most likely there will be a few rules to keep it interesting for modern players. Im thinking magic will either be restricted or not used entirly.

I might be in, will aliens count as fantasy if they're not sci-fi aliens?(Mardukans, big four armed grizzly bear sized critters)

I would prefer more fantastic kinds, but if you REALLY want to...

Count me in, dude! I love fantasy tech! But can we please have at least some magic?

I would prefer more fantastic kinds, but if you REALLY want to...

A mardukan is approximately 6-9 feet tall, they have four arms, the two top arms have regular looking hands, the lower hands are much more primitive, being three fingered with the third finger being twice the size of the other two fingers and acting as an opposable thumb, they have horns on their heads that grow as they age, the size of the horns denoting age, they are covered in a mucouslike coating, they have inverted gender, men are like women, in that they have "vaginas" and the women have "ovipositors" although they call the ones with ovipositors men and get very angry if you call them women, they're semi-primitive, depending on where they come from on the planet, they range up to early to mid gunpowder technology, with a few aries with breechloaders and most using arquibusses and pike formations, they're pretty fantasy BMG.

Yes, but they arent 'fantastic', theyre more like aliens, as you said.

They are aliens, but then again so are alot of fantasy types, Tolkiens elves are from another world than the humans, and the dwarves were made by a minor deity, the orcs are corrupted elves and the balrogs came from space, theres plenty of aliens there(I've read the silmarillion way too many times, nobody should be able to tell you all that withoyut having to look it up.)

If you really want me to I'll use my M:TG assortment, minus the slivers, since mine seem to piss people off for some reason...

OOC:
Yes, but all of those fit my personal definition of 'fantasy'.
Look, we can debate this further once the Earth is up (if it goes up), for now please drop it, it looks bad.

OK, I'll just use the various races of M:TG, that'll solve the problem pretty much permanently.

Well, #3.
Im thinking Ill need about 6-10 people to get this the running start it needs.
Once its up Ill have some kind of lottery for mod positions, or maybe an essay competition :P

Great idea, an essay competition. Q: Would this be a simulation?
Blood Moon Goblins

It depends on what you mean by simulation...

I'd be interested providing the rules about magick, abilities and other details are properly fleshed out.
Blood Moon Goblins
31-05-2005, 03:34
There will be a 'beta' phase where the rules are sorted out to a majority of everybodies liking.
Theao

I'd suggest something like three racial abilities , ie: dwarves: greatest metal weapons and metal items, skilled warriors, and tough. Elves: Best in forests, excellent archers, magickal abilities, things like that.

I was considering letting people make up their own races/subraces, although they would need to do a writeup on them.
Nothing really tough (EX: Write a nine page history or whatever), just things like "Name, avg. lifespan, height" and so on, so as not to scare the not-so-prolific writers away.

Looks like it...

Should we start writing bios now, or wait for more people?

<.<
Now I must kill you both.

Anyway, we havent set up the outline for the species bios yet, but you can write up a history or bio of your leader.
Mind, your species MIGHT get rejected.

This is good enough though, Ill set up an InvisionFree forum.

There it is, mind you there are no forums yet :)

If somebody would find some good maps (blank ones) to use for marking out territory it would be appreciated.

How about vampires, werewolves, and an assortment of blood-sucking/flesh eating slobbering horrors?

What kind of maps do you want, North American, African, European, free-form?

Id be highly interested provided you dont mind a semi human race created by a race of phoenixes that use rough steam tech (no gunpowder, but youd be amazed what you can do with some steam and a bit of imagination.)

I have a pretty in depth description if youd like.
Blood Moon Goblins

As long as theyre done well (EX: Vampires cant be 'super-pwnage OMG you all die cuz were vampires' types, unless theres about three of them).
Make sure they have some sort of balancing weakness, basicaly.

Steam-tech is fine, as long as it isnt over the top. So are things like MTG-style airships/cannons and similar.

Real world maps, please. I might consider throwing in Atlantis though :)

For mine, I was thinking of demonic dwarf-like things. Short-ish, but naturally strong. Obviously they would live underground, and they live in volcanic regions and trap all sorts of cave-dwelling fantastical beasties. Also they would have the stereotypical skilled metallurgists thing, but no uber-industrialisation. Tell me if this sounds OK.
