Completion of A Dream

Angola, Namibia, Zambia, South Africa…all had fallen under the Havenite emblem. The goal that had driven Havens colonial policies for so long was about to be reached, it was so close but yet the last part would ironically also be the greatest challenge. The African Empire, a dream that spanned centuries back to the Brits was about to be completed. The United States of Africa, all that remained was a swath of land from Mozambique to Botswana. Mozambique had to be given up, a compromise had to be made. Under control of a Havenite ally, Borman Empire, it had been decided to part with Mozambique as long as the Bormans stayed out of the upcoming war although that was unlikely. No, the target would be Roach-Busters, the nation that illegally lorded over Botswana and Zimbabwe. A nation that had no business being in Southern Africa, but was there nonetheless. Roach-Busters would be thrown out and violently at that, things wouldn’t be done diplomatically, the end decision would be made final and absolute so no thoughts of a second chance swam through the conquered’s minds.

Preparations had been going on for over a year since the fall of South Africa. Coastal batteries, naval stations, radar ad Lidar stations now dotted the coastline. If RB’s allies wanted to help they would have to break through the wall that was Havenite Africa’s coastline. Defenses were especially heavy around each end of the Mozambique channel, the only avenue of re-supply RB would have. Two corps, five hundred thousand men supported by various independent units including four armored brigades were poised to invade. Up north a further corp was in place in Northern Zaire and CAR to fend off the inevitable counter invasion that no doubt would fall from RB’s northern provinces which weren’t on the hit list. The preparations that had taken so long would now bear fruit although all those preparations would do nothing to save the lives of thousands who would die. As long as RB didn’t back down it would be a long bloody war for both sides.

The first acts of war were almost in the sci-fi realm. Slowly, lazily hovering over the Earth Havenite defense satellites began firing streams of data back and forth between relay satellites and ground stations, targeting data. Under control of specialists hundreds of miles below they began maneuvering, shooting their thrusters and turning to their new targets. Each of the five massive defense installations spat out dozens of tiny objects. Four hundred missiles, barely the size of some men, began skipping on top of the Earths atmosphere the small cameras in their noses showing a picture of the universe and their destinations. One hundred Roach-Busterian satellites found themselves being hunted down by the tiny missiles, four to each satellite. The missiles would use their kinetic energy to mortally damage and wreck their targets, they would easily slice through the thin skinned satellites. Escaping them was out of the question, with the camera up front tracking the targeted satellite along with radar the ground controller could simply use the small thrust vectoring jets to re maneuver the missile if the target satellite tried to get out of the way.

Below them things were heating up to. At airbases across Havenite Africa ground crews struggled to line up their aircraft on the runways, weapons dangling off their wings and their sides gleaming with new graffiti. Dozens of aircraft leapt to the sky, bombers, air superiority craft, strike planes, they all joined together grouping into their formations. They flew low, hugging the ground trying to stay out of site of any ground based radar RB had, air based systems were a different matter but anything flying in the air over RB territory wouldn’t be flying soon enough.

Before the aircraft began heading out waves of missiles began paving the way. The first 800 Wolverine missiles shot off across the border following the curves of the earth and staying low so as to avoid any SAM fire as they headed to destroy their targets, Roach-Busterian radar sites across Botswana and Zimbabwe. Each missile had a 900lbs ONC warhead, almost one and a half times stronger than a Tomahawk. Another 1,000 missiles hit command and control locations down to brigade levels to destroy the command system of the defense forces in country. 1,000 more Wolverines made their way to airfields in use by the military throughout the two countries. Instead of the usual ONC warhead they were equipped with half a ton of sub-munitions, two different kinds that they would spray over the fields. The first kind would penetrate and crater the runways and buildings while the second was an aerial denial mine. Any aircraft, vehicles or people that ran over them would receive a harsh surprise. The final 200 Wolverines struck power station and relay stations, equipped with the usual ONC warhead to destroy the buildings. They were going to cut off power to RB’s colonies. Before the air force moved in one more thing had to be done. Preatorian V batteries along the border began lighting up shooting down any and all aircraft within 300kms of the border including civilian airliners. The main targets were of course AWACs planes but anything in the air was hit, the skies would be kept clean for the flyboys.

It was the air force’s turn now. Over Zambia 180 Rain and 90 EB-9’s covered by 168 F-133 Valkyrie’s formed up north of the RB colonies while to the south in South Africa a force of equal strength gathered. Heading to the border the heavier bombers let loose an opening salvo, 1,000 KH-97E Kraven missiles crossed the border from north and south. What ever radar sites that remained were sure to have gone active to fight off the incoming aircraft along with their SAM sites and in doing so they became bright targets to the 2,000 incoming Kravens that now targeted them and went in for the kill downloading their locations into their memory in case they turned off.

Moving in groups of fours 80 Rain swept in from north and south (160 total) to perform SEAD operations on what remained of RBs air defenses. Behind them came the rest of the aircraft. The Rain not on SEAD duty went about hunting down RB troop concentrations especially tanks and other vehicles. The bigger but still agile EB-9’s went in for the major targets, hitting major airfields to shut them down for good and major military bases each EB-9 carried almost 75,000 lbs of weaponry on them. The whole time everything was watched by the F-133’s, hovering around waiting for RB aircraft to rise up and challenge them.

Out to sea a different kind of warfare was being waged. Just over a hundred SSN’s and SSGN’s formed picket lines blocking each mouth of the Mozambique channel, one from South Africa to Mozambique and the other from Tanzania, in between the Comoros and the Seychelles and on to Mozambique. It was a safety net in case Borman Empire decided to support RB instead of seeing things Safehaven2 s way. If any ships wanted to make it to either Borman Empire’s colonies or RB’s to re-supply or reinforce they would have to go past the picket line. The picket line wouldn’t engage though, any merchant or supply ships making the journey would be sunk via Anti-ship missiles from Havens colonies or strike aircraft, the picket lines would remain quiet and hidden until RB or her allies made a different move. Either way Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique if BE decided to join RB was effectively cut off from outside support.

The dream that had driven Haven's colonial policies for decades was about to be accomplished and a chapter in Havenite history closed if things went well.

(OOC: You can have Botswana and Zimbabwe if you want, because I'll be acquiring them on another Earth.)
