PIW developing new battleship

Background: With the Resolute-class guided missile battleship nearing the end of its effective life without a major refit to the class, the Portland Iron Works was contracted by the Incorporated Sarzonian Navy to design a new class of monohulled battleship to serve as the workhorse of the fleet. Tasked with supporting coastal bombardments and anti-ship actions, the new ship is intended to be an improvement on the Resolute-class's capabilities. The result is the new Trinity-class battleship.

Armament: Named to honour Sarzonia's close relationship with both the United Kingdom of Isselmere-Nieland and the Democratic Imperium of Praetonia, the Trinity-class is armed with nine 508 mm (20 inch) guns in three triple turrets in A, B, and Y positions. The class also comes with the Sarzonian Mark 136 vertical launch system (VLS), which is capable of firing any Mark 41 standard missile or the Sarzonian-built Scourge or Scorcher missiles. The class can fire 256 of these before being reloaded. Also fitted to the Trinity is four launchers for the newly-designed Bayonet 650 mm (25.6 inch) ultra large torpedo, a torpedo that with a nuclear warhead can wipe out an entire carrier battlegroup. The Trinity also carries six 155 mm (6.1 inch) guns as a secondary armament to allow it to handle close-in threats and 14 Rattlesnake CIWS suites (35 mm Millennium Gun and Yellow Jacket mini-SAM launchers).

Propulsion: The Trinity is powered by four Pebblebed nuclear reactors with four internalised waterjets. Two diesel engines provide emergency 'get you home' propulsion in the event of nuclear reactor failure. Extensive thermal insulation reduces noise emissions from the Pebblebed reactors and also reduces infared signature. The ship is capable of travelling at 34.6 knots.

When this project nears completion, Hyst would be happy to field test a set of 10 of these ships.

One question will this be more of an carrier escort, of an attack vessel?

Subject: Confirmation

The Portland Iron Works is happy to confirm your request to purchase 10 Trinity-class battleships for nautcial testing and evaluation purposes. Once we commission the class, we will begin construction on your order and deliver them to you upon their completion.

We thank you for contacting the Portland Iron Works for your naval needs and we hope to hear from you again in the future!

[OOC: These are intended to be attack battleships, not really a carrier escort, though they probably could fill that role as well.]
