Another sunny morning on the sleepy island of Culebra, just off the coast of Puerto Rico. Giant tortoises basked on white-sand beaches, ignoring the fat foreign tourist who attempted to sit on their backs as his wife giggled inanely.
In the palm groves beyone the beach, dark-clothed men lay waiting. They charged out onto the pearly-white sand, their black boots stark against the grains. The tourist and his stick-insect wife tried to run, but a rifle butt to the small of his back made the man fall. One of the soldiers grabbed his wife by the throat, her sunglasses falling away to reveal terrified eyes. He pushed his thumb hard into her larynx, and she was unable to scream.
The tortoise watched with disinterest. A second soldier sat on it's back, much to the amusement of his comrades, and to the irritation of the tortoise.

The 4,959 men of the 12th Fallschirmjäger Legion had parachuted onto Culebra the night before, quickly occupying a few villages for billets. After a day spent scouting and surveying the area, they took Dewey, the largest town on the island. There was no resistance from the island's hundred-man garrison once they realised the scale of the attack, and the stage was set for the invasion of Vieques and Peurto Rico...

Day 4

Isabel Segunda was the last bastion of resistance on the island of Vieques. There was no means of escape for the garrison, as Verghastan ships had blockaded the city's port. The 14th FJ Legion was upon them, and they would offer no quarter.
-----
Mortar shells slammed into the Puerto Rican positions, fragments of white-hot iron slicing through the soldiers. The overturned car they had used to block the road was sent spinning into a building, crushing the wall.
The Verghastan infantrymen swarmed over them, rifles spitting death.
No mercy was given to the wounded men, who were bayonetted where they lay. The Legion's commanding officer had offered the five hundred-man garrison the option of surrender before the assault, but it had been refused. Now they would pay the ultimate price for their arrogance.

Day 7

"Open fire, Nachtmann" ordered Kapitän Heufer, commander of the Promethium.

"Jawohl, Herr Kapitän" replied the officer. He grabbed the intercom, "This is Leutnant Nachtmann, engage designated targets"

"Jawohl, Herr Nachtmann" crackled the speaker, "Firing now"

A cool night in Arecibo, on the northern coast of the island of Puerto Rico. The moon was high in the sky, the star were bright, and the city was illuminated in silvery-blue. Bright orange flared against the horizon, and after a few seconds of flight, the barrage of 135mm shells from the Verghastan fleet made contact. Explosions wracked the city.
The bombardment continued for two hours, masking the approach of a score of landing craft, each loaded with infantry, tanks, five-tons, ammunition and fuel. The final stage of the operation was now in progress, and Puerto Rico would bow to the banner of the Republik...
