Roach-Busters

The Octagon, RB City, Capitalist Confederacy of Roach-Busters

Minister of State Security and Acting President Chia Neng Lee had not been this ecstatic in ages. He was overflowing with sheer excitement, his grin wide as his eyes gleamed while greedily contemplating the prospect of invading, subjugating, and conquering new nations to add to Roach-Busters.

He stood before a world map, where he had stuck thumb tacks into the following places he planned to invade: Angola, Botswana, Namibia, Nicaragua, the Philippines, South Africa, Thailand, and Zimbabwe. And if possible, Paraguay.

Sitting around in a table were Minister of Defense Lester Lindsey, Minister of Intelligence Aelee Yang, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Cody Jennings, Chief of Staff of the Army Rene Rodriguez, Chief of Staff of the Navy James LeDuc, Chief of Staff of the Air Force Calvin Cyprian, Sr., and five of Roach-Busters's top generals.

Lester cleared his throat. "So, Minister, which targets are first on your list?"

Lee's answer was immediate: "Angola, Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe. They are, geologically speaking, among the wealthiest countries in the world. Abundant diamonds, gold, oil (in Angola), and much, much more. All for us. All for us."

By now, Lee's eyes were bulging profusely, salivating excessively, and wearing a gigantic, absurdly jolly, shit-eating grin. His expression was that of a man utterly deprived of sanity but filled to the capacity with joy.

Cyprian cleared his throat. "Uh...sir?"

"All for us. All for us," Lee kept chanting in an atonal, almost robotic voice.

"Sir?" Cyprian repeated.

"All for us. All for us."

"Sir!"

"All for us. All for-"

"SIR!!!!" everyone shouted simultaneously, at the top of their voices.

Lee's eyes became blank, as he froze in mid-sentence, dazed. A second later, after a few convulsive blinks, he regained his composure, cleared his throat, and straightened up. "Ahem, sorry about that," he said ruefully, with a small, sheepish grin.

Cyprian sighed, shook his head. He felt like a weary parent dealing with a hyperactive child. "No worries, Minister. Now: shall we get down to business?"

"Yes, yes, sure," Lee said brusquely. "Let's get down to business promptly."

After a few hours of discussion, Operation: All For Us was all written down and thoroughly planned. It was as meticulously organized as possible. Being an ardent perfectionist with virulent hostility to failure, Lee wanted absolutely no screw-ups.

The following forces would be sent to Africa:

5 Infantry Divisions
1 Royal Guard Division
2 Mechanized Divisions
2 Parachute Divisions
2 Special Forces Divisions
2 Foreign Legion Divisions
3 Armored Divisions
3 Marine Divisions

10 Universe Class Aircraft Carriers (each carrying 15 TSF-616 "Eidolon" Air Superiority Fighters)
5 Omega Class Missile Destroyers
5 Sea Snake Class Attack Submarines
5 Tennessee Class Conventionally Powered Submarines
5 Rothsky Class Anti-Submarine Destroyers
5 Devlin Class Guided Missile Destroyers
10 Jack Kordo I Class Carriers (each carrying 10 'Sharkishki' Multi-Role Naval Fighters)

Operation: All For Us would soon commence.

Across the vast, untamed, sun-bathed seas sailed the Roach-Busterian fleet. The ships were bustling with activity. As the ships sailed, they proudly waved the RB flag, displaying their fervid patriotism for all to see.

The ensign peered through his binoculars, and glimpsed, in the distance, the robust, bustling, seaside city of Cape Town, South Africa. "Cap'n!"

Captain Reginald Icarus walked over. "Aye, what is it?"

"Cape Town is within range. Shall I send them a 'warning?'"

"Aye, do that."

"Roger."

The Devlin Class Guided Missile Destroyer they were aboard was soon within range of the city.

Captain Icarus's eyes narrowed to slits as he gave the order in an eerily calm, placid voice: "Fire at will."

The guns began their bombardment of the city. The crew aboard the other ships observed this and followed suit. Soon, the entire fleet was hammering away at the city, pummeling it with a continuous barrage of missiles. In the distance, the land was alight with explosions, as thick fumes of smoke engulfed the sky, buildings toppled like tipped-over dominoes, and searing flames consumed everything in sight.

Pilots donned their Air Force uniforms, boarded their TSF-616 "Eidolon" Air Superiority Fighters, and soon, engines roared, and the fighters burst into the air with a deafening screech reminiscent of a bird of prey, as they streaked through the clouds with great speed, in relentless pursuit of their target. The pilots fired away indiscriminately at the city, leveling buildings and killing everyone foolish enough to enter the line of fire.

Pretoria, South Africa

The jangling of phones reached a crescendo in the busy, cluttered office, as dozens of phones rang, several people barked at each other loudly, attempting in vain to be heard, all of them drowning each other out.

A weary, tense aide rushed into the President's office, with a weathered face and a sullen expression. "Mr. President!"

"What is it," the President replied coolly. "I am quite busy."

"Too busy to be informed that, as we speak, Cape Town is being pummeled into rubble?"

"WHAT!? We're under attack?! You fucking ignoramus, why didn't you say so right away?"

"I tried t-"

"Don't talk back to me, you lout. Call the Ministry of Defense! This is an emergency!"

"Aye, sir!"

As the fleets and fighters continued to pummel Cape Town into a pulp, several transport ships landed at a southern Angolan beach, as thousands of soldiers disembarked, followed by scores of tanks, artillery, and assorted vehicles. The invasion of Angola was underway.

Several more transport ships landed up and down the Angolan coast, unloading the vehicles and soldiers aboard. Roughly half of the invasion force would head for Luanda from the north, the remainder from the south. They planned to surround the city, and launch an all-out, no-holds-barred blitzkrieg to seize the city and force the impoverished nation to surrender.

General Patton MacArthur, who was overseeing the entire operation and serving as supreme commander of all RB forces in Africa, planted an RB flag in the ground and said, "Soon, this entire nation of Angola, in addition to her southern neighbors- except Lesotho and Swaziland, who gives a crap about them- will be under our dominion. In honor of Generalissimo the Great, let us emerge victorious!"

A spontaneous, uproarious cheering commenced as soldiers gleefully fired their guns into the air, pumped their fists, tearfully sang the RB National Anthem, and chanted the Generalissimo's name with an enthusiasm bordering on fanaticism.

"We will eliminate the scourge of socialism in this region," MacArthur said. "The Marxist-Leninist stooges who preside over these nations, living like feudal lords while their populaces starve, will be dealt with severely. We will make this area the breadbasket of Africa. We will conquer poverty, disease, starvation, illiteracy, crime, and communism, all in the name of our beloved Generalissimo! No longer will Angola, Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe will be international pariahs and Third World hellholes. They will soon be industrial and military powerhouses where free enterprise flourishes and leftists cringe in horror! All hail the Generalissimo! Praise be to his name!"

And with that, the Roach-Busterian forces thundered off across the dusty, barren plains, eagerly anticipating their victory.

Tanks rumbled across the valleys, firing away at primitive structures and poorly-constructed, flimsy straw huts, decimating them on impact, as panicked natives scurried about, flailing their arms in the air and screaming helplessly. The soldiers took great care not to hit civilians, only their houses. After all, they would be building them far better houses once Angola was in RB's hands. Villages fell like dominoes. In every village the soldiers took, children were rounded up, taken aboard a hospital ship, and treated with all the latest medicine. Doctors vaccinated everyone. Abundant, nutritious, delicious food and fresh, clean water was distributed among villagers. Every place was sprayed heavily with DDT to eliminate mosquitoes. As many soldiers administered humanitarian aid to the hapless Angolans, the majority of the forces continued onwards toward Luanda, the capital city.

The main road to Luanda passed trough a valley at one point, on both sides surrounded by steep slopes or crags which led to more jungle on the top. Here, General Mugabe prepared his troops, 55,000 men in Soviet Era fatigues with AK-47s older than they were. He laughed inside that his T-55s, the thirty which constituted all working armor in his nation were older than he was. He knew that he could not best them on the open plane, but here, where they were sure to pass, he could kill enough colonialist oppressors that they would pull out. His airforces, 10 Mig-23s and 12 Mig-21s were, as he knew, no match for their airforces, so he hid them away, in the jungle. Here on the cliff, fighting against the odds for the defense of his nation, he hid his tanks under jungle plants, preparing them for a signal when they would fire, with his men's weapons joining in. Soviet antitank weapons and RPGs would be used while AK-47s shot apart them. He knew, if he killed enough, they could pull out.

In villages within the enemies' path, the villagers fled from their homes when they were told of the pillaging sure to occur. Others joined in active resistance, setting up explosives buried in the ground or in huts, to kill Roach Busters troops when they arrived. Men with RPGs and Aks stood by, ready to shoot if they came.

The pilots fired away indiscriminately at the city, leveling buildings and killing everyone foolish enough to enter the line of fire.

Cape Town was like an image out of Dante's Inferno. More accurately, just the 'Inferno.' RB naval bombardment and air strikes had reduced the city to burning stacks of rubble. The few tall buildings still left standing were ablaze, and looked as if they'd collapse any minute. The garrison of SANDF [South African National Defence Forces] troops had been hit, and the base destroyed. Only a few ragtag survivors had escaped, about a battalion's worth. Civilians who had been unable to flee hid under whatever shelter they could find, desperately seeking some haven from the vicious attack.

Major Joshua Hendricks hid with a few soldiers in a burnt-out cafe. Throughout the city, the SANDF had holed themselves into whatever cover they could find, setting up makeshift bunkers to fight the RB troops when they landed, to buy time for a civilian retreat. At the moment, Hendricks fiddled with the dial on his radio.

"This is Major Hendricks, SANDF garrison at Cape Town. We are under attack by the Roach-Busterian navy, and probably ground troops as well. Repeat, we are under attack! The city is burning, we have massive civilian casualties...we need reinforcements. Can anyone hear me?"

His only reply was static. He swore. A young soldier, an Indian, entered the cafe. "What is it, Patel?"

"Sir, just before the landline to Pretoria was hit we got a message. There aren't going to be any reinforcements. All SANDF troops are needed to man the defensive line to the north, when the RB soldiers land."

"I see. Why are you telling me this? Shouldn't you inform the superior officers?"

"Um, that would be you, sir. General Botha and Colonel Gregory were both killed by a missile at the CP. Colonels van der Meer and Wilders were caught in a bunker that was hit with another rocket. We don't know about any others, but they are presumed dead."

Major Smith sank into a chair as the news hit him. He was the Commanding Officer of the Cape Town garrison, tasked with the impossible job of holding back Roach-Busters. He took a deep breath, and then gave his orders.

"We've got to hold of the enemy as long as possible, to give the civilians a chance to escape. Patel, circulate the orders that everyone keep a low profile, and try not to be spotted. We have to wait for the enemy to come to us. Specifically, give everyone explicit orders to survive. We're no good to the Republic as corpses. Now let's move. We'll give those bastards hell."

***

As Cape Town, the legislative capital of South Africa, burned under barrage after barrage from the RB Navy, the SANDF began readying itself for what would in all likelihood be its last stand. Defensive lines were constructed, bunkers dug, and artillery positioned as rifles were cleaned and tanks fueled. Lines of civilian traffic headed north from the southern cities as military traffic went south. South Africa was in for the fight of her life, but she would not give up easily. A little over a hundred years ago, the Boer Republics had almost defeated the greatest empire the world had ever seen, Britian, and they had had only a few hundred men, horses, and bolt-action rifles. Now, with close to five million soldiers (once a draft was enacted) and modern weaponry, they would make Roach-Busters pay for starting this fight.

OOC: I expect that you're going to win, but don't think I'll make it easy for you :p .

The F-45 'Sharkishki' Multi-Role Naval Fighters and TSF-616 "Eidolon" Air Superiority Fighters flew onward, once they were 'finished' with Cape Town; or rather, what was left of it. They flew onward toward Mossel Bay; after Mossel Bay, would come Port Elizabath; and finally, East London. Once those cities were cut down to size, so to speak, an amphibious invasion of the mainland would be launched. The RB forces were now within 50 miles of Luanda. However, it was not going as easily as they had anticipated. Sporadic ambushes, encounters with landmines, attacks by suicide bombers, and an occasional air strike, had already taken the lives of more than 600 Roach-Busterians. However, with their artillery in tow, they easily shot down any aircraft which dared incur their wrath, and the few idiots foolish enough to openly attack were soon reduced to ashes after being blasted at point-blank range by Roach-Busterian tanks.

"The Fools!" Screamed General Mugabe into the radio as his men continued to hold their positions. Word had spread that independent forces were actually making attacks on enemy soldiers. The guerellas who blew up villages when the Roach Busters troops attempted to move in on them were one thing, but this was entirely different. 2/3 of the Air forces were under Mugabe's control, and those were hidden away, but the advanced Mig-25s had all been destroyed in air raids on the Roach Busters soldiery. Five thousand regular troops were killed when it looked that perhaps five hundred Roach Busters soldiers had been killed. With Roach Busters troops approaching Luanda, and with his main group of troops holding a crucial spot for an ambush, Mugabe knew there would have to be a delay, to keep the government intact for a while longer to organize resistance, perhaps to lure the Roach Busters into a guerella war in the interior, fighting in the jungles like how the Vietnamese resisted American military might. He thought, and then knew what had to be done. He sent a message back through his secure line, which in his army, meant a man in a jeep carrying a message. The government was to evacuate to Saurimo, 400 miles inland. He knew the enemy forces were closing fast, and if the government was to escape, action would have to be taken. He had a small force of 250 men and two BMP-1s watching the one major bridge capable of supporting armored crossing of anything larger than a pack animal across the river Cuanza. Perhaps, he could tell them to blow the bridge. A day would have to be taken to bridge the river, and by that time, most of the government could flee. Meanwhile, he would pull his forces out of the area to the town of Cuango, where the major road from the capital crossed the River Cuango. Hopefully, they could arrest or stop a crossing there.

Near the town of Dondo, on the River Cuanza
The radio crackled to life, the men were to fire up the demolition charges and retreat to the point where Mugabe had occupied. Demolitions officers ran towards the special hut they set up, padded with sandbags, and then connecting the two detonation wires, the bridge exploded and crashed down into the waters of the river below. The men ran back to the transport trucks, and soon, the BMPs were following with BDRMs, hoping to get away before the Roach Busterians followed.

The RB planes sped across the skies, heading for Mossel Bay. Scrambling to meet them were the various fighters and interceptors of the South African Air Force. Once the planes were in the air, they had about three minutes before they came into contact with the Roach-Busterians.

When the RB planes appeared on radar, anti-air missiles and machine gun fire lit up the sky. Thousands of rounds of ammunition from vulcan cannons and dozens of SAMs filled the sky, while the fighters of the SAAF weaved around, trying their damnedest to knock out the enemy planes. If they could be stopped or slowed here, it would delay the land invasion, and there was also the fact that if RB lost air superiority, then the South Africans would stand a good chance of stopping them on the ground, caught off guard as they were.

As missiles and gunfire from both sides tore planes apart in balls of fire, below them something else was happening. Since Cape Town had been forsaken, for the time being at least, most of the South Africa Navy had remained station in the various ports of call, particularly Mossel Bay, East London, Port Elizabeth, and Durban. Here in Mossel Bay, several frigates and destroyers, armed with missiles of their own, opened up on the RB planes, adding to the mayhem.

As the battle raged in the sky, several battalions of SANDF ground troops began setting up their defenses in the city itself, while amored units prepared to hit the enemy flanks when RB ground troops arrived. It was very likely that the South Africans would be beaten back, but they were determined to make the Roach-Busterians pay for every foot of ground.

It was very likely that the South Africans would be beaten back, but they were determined to make the Roach-Busterians pay for every foot of ground.

Like a pimple filled beyond its capacity with pus, one of the aircraft burst to pieces upon being struck by a missile, its tattered, fiery remnants plunging into the cold sea. The remaining aircraft maneuvered carefully, narrowly evading another stream of swift missiles, but nevertheless, several more were hit, exploding upon impact and instantly killing the pilots. One aircraft, however, did not explode, and instead spiralled out of control, crashing into the side of a South African destroyer and generating a small but devastating explosion. The aircraft returned fire in earnest, barraging the attacking ships with a continuous flow of bullets and missiles. The RB fleet followed suit.

"Those bastards are thinking of putting up a fight, are they!?" Lee scowled, clenching his hand into a tightly-balled fist. "I'm through with going soft. Let's end this once and for all!"

He ordered the following forces to be sent to Mozambique immediately:

25 Infantry Divisions
5 Mechanized Divisions
5 Parachute Divisions
5 Special Forces Divisions
5 Foreign Legion Divisions
15 Armored Divisions
15 Marine Divisions
20 Reserve Divisions

20 Dolphin Class Subs
20 Shaldag MKIIs
50 Saar MK-Vs
45 Protector UNPVs
100 Ohio Class Submarines
30 Cartagena class SSNs
20 Seawolf SSNs
20 Ohio SSGNs
20 Wasp II class LHDs
100 New Dublin Class Amphibious Ships
50 Hawk Class Guided Missile Destroyers
10 Lotam Class Command Battleships
10 Manstein class Destroyers
50 Ticonderoga Cruisers
250 California Cruisers
25 Texarkana Class Helicopter Carriers (each carrying 3 RoLu-17 Galician Attack Helicopters, 3 AH-1A1 Super Cobra II Helicopters, 3 AH-3 Viper Light Attack Helicopters, 3 AH-4 Zealot Light Attack/Observation Helicopters, 3 CH-54B "Skycrane" Cargo Helicopters, and 3 SH-65A "Dolphin" ASW/Utility Helicopters)
20 Universe Class Aircraft Carriers (each carrying 5 F-15E Strike Eagles, 5 AV-28 Wraith ESTOVL Attack Aircraft, 5 F-117A Nighthawks, and 5 F-22 Raptors)

The aforesaid forces would launch an all-out amphibious invasion through Mozambique; then, they would spread out, heading south and joining with the forces already being sent to South Africa; once South Africa and Angola were theirs, the aforesaid forces, the South African forces, and the Angolan forces would all join and conquer Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, and Katanga.

The government was busy moving high level management out of Luanda and down the country roads to Saurimo. Most had been evacuated by the time the shells and bombs started falling, tearing the shanties and Soviet style concrete shells called apartments to dust and shrapnel. Angolan army units in the capital, 5,250 men with 10 BMP-1s and 20 BDRMs and supported by 10 PT-76 tanks, they hardly stood a chance. Government arsenals were opened up, RPGs and AKs were being distributed to anyone who could be armed. Shells landed everywhere, some into apartments which collapsed, killing everyone inside. A small nursery school exploded in flame when a battleship shell landed inside. Streets were scenes of chaos as explosions ripped the cities.

The fighters and fleet did not relent; they continued to bomb Luanda with full force, creating a spectacle of destruction reminiscent of the Allied bombing of Dresden during World War II. Entire city blocks were leveled, as buildings crumbled apart, searing flames blazed through everything in their path, and thick, suffocating fumes of smoke engulfed the city in a thick shroud, distorting everything around the Angolans almost to the point of invisibility. Many choked and died. Others were ripped to pieces by bullets or blown to smithereens by missiles. Many were eaten alive by the rapidly spreading flames. It was like Hell on Earth.

The poor fools who held up in buildings for cover were the first to die as the city crumbled around them. Seargeant Mbotu Seke guided his squad down the crowded alley within the ghetto of the city. In the distance, a shell landing in an apartment building tore it in half and sent both sides crashing down onto the street. Dust filled the air as napalm strikes burned another block, sending a cloud of the sweet sickly smell of burning flesh and gasoline his way. Ten feet ahead of him was the target: a manhole that led into the sewers beneath the city, their best bet to escape the shells, or at least the napalm. Another shell landed, not 500 feet away, blasting a hospital to dust and filling the air with an ear ringing explosion. His squad members grabbed a crowbar, and then pried the cover off, before climbing down one by one. The burst of a nearby shell followed, destroying another concrete structure while the men hurried down to the only possible escape left. All over town, regular military units did the same while terrified civilians were being blown to shreds. The city, once a collection of concrete prefabrication was now a moonscape.

Meanwhile, the aircraft continued onward and flew toward the jungle, where they suspected many insurgents might be hiding. They unleashed their wrath upon the tropical foliage and its inhabitants, pounding away with a continuous bombardment of explosives.

The bodies of thousands littered the streets, while rubble concealed thousands more. 3/4 of Luanda was dead, flattened by artillery barrages and napalm. Others wandered the streets, shouting for loved ones and crying. Soldiers continued to hide in the sewers beneath the city, preparing for the invasion, but their tanks on the surface were destroyed. The sewers themselves were blocked in several tunnels by debris. It was a ghost town, littered with craters, burned buildings, and the bodies of men, women, and children. Power to the lucky neighborhoods was out. Hospitals had all been destroyed, most of the people, nay, nearly all were homeless. It was a depressing sight, and full of suffering.

In the jungles, villages were wiped out from the earth in firey blasts, hundreds were dying every hour, yet, the insurgents had prepared, like the Vietnamese who resisted the Americans, they hid underneath, in their tunnels preparing to pop out and attack. They had built them deep and reinforced, hoping to kill the men when they came.

In the space of a few minutes, most of the SAAF planes had been destroyed in a hale of missiles and bullets. The SAAF had been unable to move sufficient numbers of airplanes due to the fact that there had been almost no warning of the RB attack. Only a couple of squadrons had been in place to defend Mossel Bay, and the sheer weight of the Roach-Busterian attack had worn them down; all but three fighters were gone. The surviving planes, low on fuel and ammunition, flew east at top speed, headed for Port Elizabeth.

When the RB fleet arrived, many of the South African ships began to fall back as well, though they soon realized that with the combined air and naval superiority of the enemy, they would never be able to get away fast enough. To retreat would be like herding themselves together while the enemy picked them of at will. With this in mind, many of the captains ordered desperate last stands, to delay the enemy and give the homeland a few more precious hours to prepare a defense in the east and north.

One of the destroyers was listing badly to her port, on fire from where an RB plane had crashed into it. Several life rafts could be seen in the water, as could myriad bodies floating, some alive and some dead. Other ships continued to fire their missiles and guns at the enemy planes and ships, until one by one they began to run out of ammunition. The captains slowly gave the orders to abandon ship. As the sailors left their ships, several were attacked by the sharks that prowl Africa's southern coast. Others were strafed from the air by RB planes. Of the ones that made it to shore, about half waited where they were, to surrender to Roach-Busters. Of the ones who did not surrender, close to two-thirds fled east, running blind away from the fires of Mossel Bay. Only a few dozen headed toward the city, to aid the ground troops in anyway they could. When they arrived, they asked for weapons. Sergeant Balck, the man in charge of weapons distribution, offered them only a grim smile. "We don't 'ave any gun for you. But don't you worry, they'll be plenty soon enough."

The battle, at least the air- and seaborne part, was over in a few hours. South African casualties numbered in the thousands; airmen, ground personnel, and sailors. The ones who survived took little solace in the fact that the next target for RB, most likely Port Elizabeth, would be better defended.

Below the jungles, the people in the tunnels never knew what hit them. On the surface, VX was deadly, but usually sank down lower after a while. Now, the tunnels, being set into the ground were utterly filled with the nerve agent. Within six seconds of exposure, the people, who clearly could not have afforded CBW gear were lying dead on the ground. A short range Mjolnir ICBM hurled from it's mobile launcher, quickly reaching apogee.

Targeting information fed into the MIRV warhead as it fell, slowly at first then quicker as boosters took hold.

These liberally scattered into the Roach Busters second fleet.

The Vastivan 4th fleet came out of Antarctic waters, hitting the Roach Busters attackers from an unexpected direction - and with significant numbers of fighters and bombers hitting their fleet would make a difference as their Battleships brought up the heavy guns.

Swarms of ACRATHERM-II Cruise missiles mixed in with hundreds of AI-QQ decoys, all aimed towards the carriers - set to detonate early, the explosions would wash the RoachBusters carriers decks with vaporous thermate. And at over 5500 C, the resulting sticky and waterproof firestorm would burn holes through their decks, rendering them useless.

The explosions of their planes and armaments would just be icing on the cake.

Within the confines of the Presidential office, the commander-in-chief of the army and the president of Namibia were discussing the events of recent days, and wondering what would happen to them, if the imperialist nation of Roach-Busters were to come against them.

"Sir... it's only a matter of time. Everyone near us has been attacked, there's no doubt we're next."

"I'm aware, but do we have any other choice between surrender and war?"

"No. We may need to surrender to avoid casualties. Their forces are much stronger than ours."

"No. We'll have to stand our ground. We'll be able to weaken them with guerilla attacks."

"Are you sure, sir?"

"Yes. Surrender will only be met by mass rioting by the people, and control by a foreign power. Colonialism and imperialism will not be met with open arms by us."

"I understand."

"Remember, despite the massive might and power of the oncoming Roach-Buster forces, we can most likely hold off Roach-Busters much better than the rest. Why? We have the mighty Namib and Kalahari deserts. They are both lands of extreme heat, and the deserts are among the hottest places in the world during the day. It will take little time for their troops to suffer from the overwhelming heat. Their tanks and other vehicles will have harder times crossing the desert... the heat will turn the vehicles into ovens, and sand will easily mess up the machinery within. Also, the wind speed is high in areas near the sea in the Namib, and there are large amounts of sand bars, making an amphibious assault by them treacherous. Finally, remember that we have small bunkers scattered about, hidden within the dunes."

"All of this I am aware of."

"Okay, then inform the troops. If they have to pull back, have them set explosives inside our bunkers. Don't let them have a point where they can rest. Make them want to go home."

"Yes, sir. We will do our best."

"Godspeed. I am counting on you and all the other Namibian troops."

And with that, the general left, and Namibia prepared to fight a long hard war against Roach-Busters...

"Shit! Incoming!"

The sailors aboard the ships, unable to distinguish the real nukes from the decoys, began firing missiles in panicky haste; three of the nukes were intercepted and burst in the air, generating tremendous explosions that wiped out 5 Norad Class Super Battleships, 24 BBGN-61 PX-MOD Iowa Class Battleships, 2 CGN-56 Xero Class Guided Missile Cruisers, 1 CG-59 Volcano Class Arsenal Ship, and all of the BCGN-84 Vrelck Class Battle Cruisers. The decimated ships crumbled apart and sank beneath the waves. Thousands of lives, and billions of dollars' worth of weapons and equipment, had been destroyed. Several of the 'fake' nukes crashed into one of the transport ships, causing heavy damage and injuring over 241 Marines. 3 were killed. One ship, carrying two Reserve Divisions, was hit by over 50 of the decoys, and was completely destroyed. The poor souls that were aboard had never seen it coming. All around, there were thousands of drowning sailors and soldiers screaming for help. Many were consumed by the ravenous sharks that prowled beneath the cold waves. There were less than thirty 'nukes' left- only one of which was real. It missed one of the ships, but landed in the center of the fleet, setting off an explosion of unprecedented magnitude and destruction, destroying 75% of the remaining Battleships and badly damaging all but a few of the transport ships. The remaining decoys were intercepted, except for one, which hit a CG-59 Volcano Class Arsenal Ship and caused minor damage, killing 16 sailors and causing a fire that was quickly put out.

When it was all over, the survivors immediately notified the Roach-Busterian government, which sent the following telegram to the Vastivan government:

"You have 24 hours to leave South Africa and refrain from attacking us again. Should you refuse our most reasonable demands, we will take swift and severe retaliatory action, and you will be the victims of a nuclear holocaust unrivaled in history."

A heavy, vicious bombardment assaulted the RB ships, making them sympathize with Port Elizabeth, which they had previously turned into a pile of rubble, and which just might happen to them soon. Sixteen assorted ships sank beneath the waves, while the RB aircraft which had been strafing South Africa flew toward the fleet and began firing away, as the RB fleet pounded at the Vastivan fleet with a full-fledged assault of firepower. It was a spectacular sight to behold.

As the fighting above and below ground on, Admiral Fes muttered more grim predictions. The 4th had been reduced in strength by a third - of which, painfully, included two of her four carriers and three of seven pocket carriers. Her main strength of 22 Fafin-class and 17 Guillen-class BBGNs hadn't been broken - yet - but the supporting ships were a mix of shambles and untouched.

Roach-Busters attacks tended to concentrate on a single ship, rather then spread damage all over the place, and this had turned out to be ridiculously effective in most cases.

"They're taking us out piecemeal, early." he grumbled. The reserved 11th Fleet could come to the "rescue", but Fes was loathe to do that.

Better to see if their "accidental allies" could relieve some of the pressure...

"The games afoot, and it all depends on these early moves... XO, get the rest of our fighters in the air, and get more from our bases in Antarctica to piggyback over."
"Sir, that will..."

Well... as much as I would rather like that no imperialist power stood foot in Namibia, I guess we ought to open something to you... we'll let you dock and place military forces within Walvis Bay. I hope that will suffice.

The Admiral sent a nice pleasant thank you note to the Namibian government, assuring them of Vastiva's pleasant intentions.

"Get our planes down there, refuel them, and get them back up in the air. Then attempt to get an overland line through South Africa so we can rearm from a land base as well - hell, have our people see if we can use their missiles and shells. Move assets over there to protect it - and include some Archers so they can't pull the same schtick on us we did on them. Move people! This isn't a performance, this is the real thing!"

OOC: Here's where NSEarth gets confusing as hell...

Vastivan Holdings:

Antarctica (part, main holding)
South Africa
Madagascar (note - in another plane, Schultaria Prime holds this. We trade with them)
Netherlands Antillies (though they're gaining independance from us)
Sisu Pangea (continent)
Sisu Arshu (on the continent of Manium)
France (Vastiva holds for Chellis' return as overseers)
Monaco (naval base, cordial relations, defense pact)
Gibraltar and Morocco (from British Morocco)
Alaska (Earth something or other that Sharina oversaw)

We've naval/trade bases in Feline Catfish, on Manhattan Island (includes trade base with the Iroquois Nations), in Mexico (Trade with the Aztecs), in Peru (Trade with the Incans), and in all our allies nations, except AMF and Greenmanbry.

We also own all of Earth XI, which started as humor and got interesting.

Anyways, here, I'm playing with a first-level colony in Antarctica, and this whole series of events is an attempt to trade with South Africa at a future point. So I'll be ignoring my assets elsewhere and politely telling my allies to "stay out" as this concerns only the colonial government itself and its fleets.

(OOC: So this is all you can trade with South Africa? If you let me take South Africa, we'll trade as much as you want, and Vastivan companies will be allowed to mine resources.)

OOC: So do a nice telegram, give us plenty of farmland on the eastern coast and mining rights, and we'll turncoat soon enough. The thrust is to assure farmland and mining ability. See, you can't grow anything in Antarctica until you build lots of greenhouses, so this is assuring a food and supply source until things get going - I'd have hit South America as well, but South Africa is "familiar" as we did it before in our history (game and historical).

(OOC: Please excuse the crappy post...)

With Port Elizabeth now a steaming, smoldering wasteland of no threat or significance to Roach-Busters, the land invasion could begin. Transport ships pulled into the harbor and unloaded their personnel and vehicles. Meanwhile, the aircraft flew onward, to bomb and strafe the cities of the east into submission.

The transport ships pulled into the harbor of the defeated city, and were able to unload much of their cargo. The city and the surrounding area were deemed no threat; the SAAF and SAN had been thoroughly beaten here, and many civilians lay dead as well. Everything was going well for the invaders. At least, until...

"NOW!" screamed Lieutenant Max van Gerter. The ground soldiers of the SANDF, supplemented by a few dozen sailors who'd escaped the devastation of the naval battle, opened fire on the Roach-Busterians. Suppression fire from various machine gun emplacements sent a murderous torrent of bullets to the enemy troops. RPGs, Stingers, and other missiles rained down at vehicles, and some of the yet-unloaded transports. Individual soldiers, Boer and English, Colored and Black, Asian and Indian, took potshots at anyone who poked their head out from cover. Further into the city, light-caliber artillery (mostly 75mm) and even some rocket batteries opened up on the harbor. The heavy weapons, and a few tanks, and been hidden in various spots in the city, primarily in strong buildings and unlikely military targets, such as schools. Amazingly, about half had survived, leaving the South Africans with the a little more than a regiment each of light artillery and tanks.

Lieutenant van Gerter led his squad down a street towards the harbor. As they left the cover of a bombed-out warehouse, they began rolling behind whatever cover they could find, and making short, zig-zag sprints to avoid enemy fire. On the flank of a larger group of soldiers, van Gerter and his men fired at Roach-Busterian troops, trying to flank the landing force. A grunt behind him signified that one of his men was down. The rumble of the rear artillery also quieted. He panicked for a moment, fearing that the counter-attack was already faltering, but then remembered that after a few salvos, the heavy guns would have to relocate to another position in order to avoid Roach-Busterian counterbattery fire.

As soldiers from both sides exchanged fire, the battle of South Africa had truly begun.

We certainly can't withdraw suddenly, how would that look to all these native people we are defending? Particularly when they finally asked us in and we can bring up more equipment quickly?

However, as we're mostly interested in South Africa from 25 degrees Longitude east, and have no concerns for Namibia, we could find an agreement suitable to both of us in the long run.

As you may see from this map, (http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/africa/south_africa_ag_1979.jpg) the agricultural basis of South Africa falls on our part of this division.

If you will agree to such now, we will certainly begin actions in your favor, though they shall have to be subtly until such time as we can act openly.

The money, of course, you may keep. It is land - particularly farm and mining land - we are most interested in.

A partition along the 25th Longitudinal will be sufficient. You take the western part and the rich vinyards there, we take the eastern part. We ask for portage and trade routes through Mosselbai, as that is the closest port to our lands south of Africa.

In return, we'll also help "turn" Namibia over to you, and will aid in the defense of your African holdings in the future - assuming you agree to do the same for us.

We also relinquish any claims to Botswana, and will help there if you like.

Bandar-e Abbas, Parthia

Hundreds of warships were busy steaming out of the harbor into the Persian gulf, flying the Parthian flag and packed with sailors on deck, the Parthian navy was moving out of port towards parts unspecified, to fight against a foe only the crews knew of. Behind them, hundreds of transports followed, packed with soldiers and equipment. As they moved out of the Persian gulf, they began to set themselves up for combat, before preparing to move south towards Africa, Parthia had something to say about the situation. In the front, submarines were running, preparing for a first strike while F-78s patrolled the skies, scanning for enemy aircraft while the defensive systems were checked and rechecked. Missile systems were fully prepared for combat while the Persian navy moved forward.

The South Africans, vastly outnumbered and overpowered, were pounded, strafed, shredded, decimated, and disintegrated by an unrelenting, unending flow of bullets, napalm, missiles, and shells. Blood and organs splattered everywhere. The rank odor of death permeated the air, instilling deep nausea in many troops, causing some of the more sensitive ones to pass out. Bullets darted about, ricocheting off buildings and hitting civilians and soldiers from both sides, shattering windows, and filling road signs full of holes. Wounded Roach-Busterians lay everywhere, screaming as intestines emerged from their gaping wounds like fat snakes slithering out of a crevice. Blood was all over the place, and already hundreds of men from both sides lay dead. Artillery brought down several RB aircraft, causing them to plummet to the ground, killing dozens of people, both Roach-Busterian and South African. Buildings were shattered to pieces by explosives raining down from above, burying thousands of hapless civilians alive.

Artillery brought down several RB aircraft, causing them to plummet to the ground, killing dozens of people, both Roach-Busterian and South African. Buildings were shattered to pieces by explosives raining down from above, burying thousands of hapless civilians alive.

After a few intial moments of confusion, the Roach-Busterians began to fight back. RB aircraft rained death upon the small force of SANDF troops attacking the harbor, killing roughly half. Colonel Moresby, the man in charge of the attack, began calling for retreat into the relative sanctuary of the city.

"All units, this is Colonel Moresby. Fall back, repeat, fall back into the city. We cannot retake the harbor. Retreat to the city, and let's fight these bastards on their own terms." He put down the microphone of the radio and headed back to the wall map on one side of the dusty basement of this storehouse, his temporary CP.

***

Even before Moresby's order had been issued, the South African troops at the harbor had begun to fall apart. Many turned and ran in the face of the superior RB weaponry and numbers, particularly the airplanes. By the time the order filtered down the ranks, all the surviving troops were away from the harbor, hiding among rubble and destroyed buildings. Every once in awhile, they would snipe at RB troops moving in open areas. The goal of the defenders at this point was to hid, and perform hit-and-run attacks against the enemy, killing a few and then disappearing into the city. The burnt shell of Port Elizabeth was a better sanctuary than one might think. Buildings could only be shattered and burned so much before they stopped collapsing and catching fire; they were quickly approaching this mark.

Captain Janick Bloemsfein led his squad down an avenue near the harbor, ducking behind cover whenever there was a noise, and sprinting across open areas. They were headed for a strongpoint, the wreckage of a factory, where they observe the enemy movements and possibly even harry them with grenade and sniper fire.

Sergeant Mbute Holomisa crawled through the piles of rubble directly north of the harbor. He had covered himself with a dark green poncho, by now more of a blackish-gray from all the dirt and soot, to avoid being seen by the enemy. He found a nice little hole inbetween two collapsed walls, and crawled in. Wiping the scope of his Czech CZ 700 M1 with a little dirt to keep it from glinting in the light, he settled in to wait for the enemy to pass by. Preferably an officer; killing enlisted men, while harsh on morale after time, was not nearly as effective as killing a captain or a major.

The 4th Fleet shoved the Roach-Busters forces away from Mosselbaai by sheer air power, their F-125 Gyrafalcons suffering huge losses in the meantime, many flying back to bases in Beaufort West to be quickly returned to fight again.

Troops landed in East London and Port Shepstone, advanced to the railroads to make quick contact with their counterparts in the South African military to plan for holding actions with several layers of defense. Artillery "thickets" were planned for Beaufort West, Victoria West, De Aar and Middelburg; Vastivan munitions flooded in from East London to be stored in Bloemfontein and Kimberly.

Northward, Walvis Bay became a naval hotspot - Elmo minelayers created a deep field at rapid speed as portions of W-22 set up their own traps. 203 mm ETS-124B guns were set to shower shells on any land approach, in support of W-22s cruise missiles.

Grateful members of the Namibian and South African military met Vastivan officers with open arms; the additional firepower might yet turn the tide... already four tank divisions and ten mechanized infantry divisions raced to Port Elizabeth, to wrest it from the Roach Buster's assault force, and allow the South Africans a coastal escape...

***

Unbeknownst to the native forces, Vastiva had sent a coded message to RoachBusters, outlining the defenses for each set up except Middelburg, mentioning "faults" built in - and timetables and codes for the Vastivan forces to "fall back" at.

There was also mention that Vastivan artillery and cruise missiles would continue to deploy in Walvis Bay - and that within four days, they would absolutely own all targets between Sesfontein and Luderitz - and as far East as Mamuno. RoachBuster forces were "requested" to encircle Walvis Bay - at which time, Vastivan munitions would be used to obliterate the Namibian resistance - who had given some of their locations to their "white knight" without thinking through all the possibilities.

OOC: Defensive positions would be part of normal information - where to put our equipment and ammunition dumps, for example. These then get shelled. "All" locations wouldn't be given, and stiff resistance is still possible, but the people who are putting forces in to defend need a basic understanding of "no, this action isn't enemy, it's ours" to reduce friendly fire accidents.

As such, this sort of information can be quickly turned around.

There, altered it to "Some". Fair enough?

Let's make a deal. We will give you Thailand and the Philippines, which have plenty of room for agriculture and have lots of valuable resources, plus the right to mine in South Africa for 150 years, if you agree to withdraw from S. Africa completely and let us have the whole country. Plus, we will help you take over geologically rich countries in West Africa such as Ghana, Sierra Leone, and Cote d'Ivoire.

Bloemfontein was the judicial capital of South Africa. For the moment, it was also the staging area for the SANDF preparing to attack Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. The city had been transformed into a fortress, the tempting target for Roach-Busterian aircraft that it was. SAM sites dotted the streets at nearly every intersection, and anti-aircraft miniguns poked their barrels menacingly out of windows, some hidden with camoflouge netting in parks. The judiciary, along with the few legislators that had escaped Cape Town, had already evacuated to Pretoria.

Some twenty divisions of the SANDF were readying themselves here for the eventual counterattack to the south. Dozens of civilian vehicles, mainly trucks, had been commandeered and turned into mobile anti-air platforms, in an attempt to try and mitigate Roach-Buster's overwhelming air superiority. The surviving aircraft wings which had escaped the fighting to the south were here, being repaired and fitted with more weapons. They were reinforced by a few squadrons from the north, though most of the planes there were kept as a reserve in the event that the counter-attack failed.

The strategy was simple, and with the aid of surprise and concerted efforts by special forces, stood a chance of success. Special forces would hit first, in conjunction with the SANDF troops trapped behind RB lines, to cut power and disrupt communications. At Zero-Hour, the moment the Roach-Busterians were blinded, flights of planes would swarm down and hit the RB planes on the ground before they could get airborne. Then the ground troops would come in during the height of the confusion and finish off the enemy. The whole battle would take just a few hours, at most. If it worked. If it failed, it would a terrible defeat, possibly ending South Africa's existence as an independent nation.

A few days time would tell...

OOC: RB, remember you still have to deal with the remnants of the Cape Town garrison, as well as the soldiers in Mossel Bay and Port Elizabeth.

Chia Neng Lee,

We had a bargain and now you seek to break it? With what we hold, additional resources are not of great concern - the agricultural areas of South Africa are rather important to us.

However, we are willing to bargain a bit.

Thailand, Burma, and the Phillipines would serve our needs well. Once secured, we will agree to the abandoning of any South African positions.

Sincerely,
Colonel-Governor Issac Von Ross

IC:

Although they had suffered relatively heavy casualties, the Roach-Busterians were still able to fend off the pathetic South African attacks with relative ease. Howitzers, artillery, grenade launchers, machine guns, et. al. sprayed the South Africans with heavy gunfire, utterly routing them and wiping them out, while aircraft pounded them with napalm for good measure.

In the cities of Bloemfontein and Kimberly, South African logistics found itself hopelessly snagged with traffic jams, Vastivan convoys, and "commando actions". Ammunition, food, fuel - none of it could move well or quickly. Apologies were made, and attempts were made to make everything run better.

At Mosselbaai, Vastivan transports loaded South African troops routed by RoachBusters offenses, to move them eastwards to Port Shepstone. The infantry would hardly be aware their transit would take them about a day beyond usefulness - and the Vastivans could hardly be blamed for damaged vessels and engine troubles following repeated submarine attacks.

That no one could see that the attacks were by Vastivan submarines was just part of the plan.

Freed from their defensive positions east of Middelburg, the SANDF had moved forces westerly to engage the RoachBusters on their front - and more Vastivan tank and mechanized infantry divisions arrived in Port Shepstone to "take the burden off", adding their might along the "Middelberg Line" and reinforcing coastal positions on the east coast, just in case.

The victorious 4th Fleet sailed into Durban; members of the Admiral's staff were seen to Praetoria to plan for the naval attack RoachBusters would certainly land on the east coast...

In point of fact, this gave the Vastivan navy submarine blockades in East London, Durbin, Port Shepstone, and Richards Bay. The South African Navy had been bottled - and they didn't know it yet.

Meanwhile, the forces that had seized Mozambique continued onward, with half of them going north into Tanzania, and the other half heading into Zimbabwe.

In the Atlantic Ocean, the fleets attacked Walvis Bay and Swakopmund in Namibia with extreme ferocity and utter lack of mercy, attacking as if they were fighting for their own homeland. Explosives, artillery, missiles, and ammuniton rained down on the two cities, leveling entire city blocks, reducing buildings to rubble, and wreaking immense and bloody havoc.

Parthian ships were moving less than a few hundred miles off the coast of South Africa. They were sailing between Mozambique and Madagascar, nearing South Africa. In front, with the submarines still sailing ahead of the fleet, there were now the patrols of F-78s, swarms of hundreds armed with anti aircraft weapons while F/A-91 strike aircraft armed with Bireme ASMs, a more advanced weapon than a Harpoon or exocet, which skimmed along at a relativley normal speed when launched a few feet above the water before kicking up to mach 3 as they neared their target and with a deadly terminal popup maneuver. A few Viking ASM aircraft were dropping sonobouys in a pattern, moving around the South African coast dropping the bouys while E-3s scanned the area. The fleet was on full alert, scanning for any attack on them as they moved forward.

Vastivan forces pulled out of their South African locales, taking with them a wealth of food and a large number of the SANDF's troops who refused to submit to the attacker - many of them from or in support of South Africa's Communist Party.

Overall, Vastivan casualties had been very light...

The massive Parthian fleet was positioned in between the island of Zanzibar and the nation of Tanzania. Zanzibar was covered in most areas by the massive fleet of the Parthians, and soon, they made their presence felt as the shells of 30 and 28 inch guns of the superdreadnoughts opened up, tearing the tiny island apart and sending the town into piles of dust. The Shahanshah Khosru's 30 inch guns tore the large port of Zanzibar apart while lighter 8 inch guns and 5 inch rapid fire guns hit other parts of the city. Two hours later, and the majority of the civilians were dead and the remainder too shocked to resist as the Parthian Marine corps poured into their landing hovercrafts and rocketed towards shore.
