Glorification of War

Impatience. Till-Aries exuded impatience, every word uttered dripping with sarcasm and every glance spared sharp as a dagger. Twenty minutes? Half hour? Doesn't matter, still waiting too long. To stop himself from drumming a line into his desk, fingers tapping non stop since the camera crew began to setup, The Lord Chancellor snatched a random knick-knack from his side and sent it flying into an unfortunate aides forehead.

"Are we done yet!?"

The camera crew fell still for a moment before continuing with the last of things. A minion of some sort righted a camera, waved his hand, and the lights were brought up all the way. Everyone out of the shot became quiet. Till-Aries smiled.

"Good morning, Grandeur of War participants. As you were made aware of, the Grandeur of War Games will begin upon our confirmation. Well, this is our word. There is a single change, however. We have had a drop out, and now the bracket must be arranged again."

The Lord Chancellor took a breath, a bit more relaxed.

"Texas and Colorado will now war against Hyst. The Unfounded will be allied with Texas and Colorado, and Fod will be allied with Hyst. Not to say The Unfounded or ourselves will come running to your aide on a whim, but when we do, we will do so simultaneously. Vans Demans Land will enter after The Unfounded and ourselves have started battle, choosing for themselves which side to aide. The Great Sixth Reich will follow suit... In a slightly different manner... But what fun would it be to reveal that now?"

The Lord Chancellor allowed a laugh, smile flashing dangerously.

"The lives of our people are nothing to us. Do you all realize that? I pray you all cherish the irony of these games, considering who threw who into the arena, and for who this is only entertainment. Do you all realize that? Either way, this all small talk."

A dismissive wave.

"Let the games begin."

OOC: arg, just had long detailed responce of the general leading my troops into these games, but left the comp to long and it signed me out :headbang:.
So heres a summery.

"Brave children of Van Demans Land, today you will not fight for resources, you will not fight for freedom, you will not be fighting for the expansion of our glorious empire. No, today you will be fighting to make the empire more well known, to give our unstobbable armies the respect they desrve!"
General Navorsky bathed in the applause and cheers of the crowd, and he inspected the troops about to be sent to their nightmares.
The whole of the newly constructed sitch army was to be sent to these games, granted it was essentially infantrymen, but the sixth army was merely an invention to have something to send to these games. Any that came back would simply be intergrated into the other five armies.
But that was the future, and now he had morale to raise and soldiers to talk to...

"So, we are to fight alongside those who pushed us to the sea in the first place?" Quick-Like-Squirrel pondered as the translated version of the Fodian video feed played across the videoscreen.

"It would seem like it, Chief," his closest aide muttered with a smirk.

"Well bugger. I should have liked at least some measure of revenge. Oh well, what do you make of these Hyst folks?"

"They seem... eager, Chief. Beyond that though, we have serious doubt in their military prowess. We suspect they would make easy prey for our Layer Knives and our guns."

"And the Fodians?"

"They are harder to gauge. We suspect they will prove the major issue in the fighting."

"And those who are to be our allies?"

"They have but a small force of fifteen thousand arrayed against the total military might of Hyst... some 1.2 million."

"Those odds... those odds are not encouraging."

"Hyst and our 'Allies' are of similar size. Colorado and Texas might bring more people into service. Do you wish us to commence full scale mobilization?"

"Yes. Just in case, I would like this to not be a one on two war. Prepare the Wavecrashers and the Cloudrunners, and make certain that our braves are 'loaded for bear'. I'll see whether or not I can get the council to allow the warchiefs to 'use their best judgement'."

"Yes sir, I shall relay your orders immediately." The aide spun on his heel and marched out of the room, Quick-Like-Squirrel suspected that if that man had walked out one thousand times, it would have been in the exact same manner each and every time.

This whole gladiatorial war thing was such a conundrum.

Admiral DeFray aboard the Pyros to the comander of the Unfounded forces, Quick-Like-Squirrel:
"I would like to welcome you to the combat that we are about partisepate in. I will warn you, the main threat form our force lies in what held back, we consider this a gainful exercese but I am preparing to authorize lethal bombardemnts initially from low orbit by our spaceplanes if any interference is given in our campaign against Red and Wanna-be Independents (otherwise know as Colorado and Texas). No matter how small, any agressive posturing will be seen as a offensive maneuver and will be met with swift and lethal reataliation. Do not underestimate the abilities of our intercepters, the F-31Xs, they are the most menueverable fighters in the world today. And how would you feel when our long range stealth bombers are dropping ordinence upon your carriers and destroyers.

You are forewarned" /comsat

Quick-Like-Squirrel was not proficient in many of the languages of the world, so the only response to the Hyst communique was a small video of him doing a strange gesture.

The gesture was followed up with the Chieftain of The Unfounded International Affairs offering a translation:

"We are uncertain as to how this gesture would translate exactly into your language, but we believe the rough estimation of its meaning would come out to 'A pox upon your testicles, you binge drinking goat narfer.' We are also uncertain what the word 'narf' would be in your language, but I would advise you to use your imagination.

"BUT, on to the meat of the message. It would behoove you to note that if any of your aircraft so much as get within five hundred nautical miles of our airspace in any direction, they will not only be shot down, but any survivors will be hunted down and eliminated in the most gruesome possible manner in a public spectacle that shall only be equated to as a bloody ritual of slaughter. We do not tolerate threats.

"You would also do well to note that the bulk of our military outnumbers the population of your entire country, and that we could very likely carpet bomb you into oblivion with little effort or expense!

"Have a nice day!"

The mobilization went as planned, as per typical procedure. Soon, three Battlefleets bearing the flag of the Unfounded Alliance, somewhere in the range of two hundred ships of varying types, although none recognizable due to the Unfounded's somewhat unique designs.

The Unfounded seemed somewhat enamored of catamaran and trimaran hull designs, but otherwise the ships seemed somewhat blocky. Or perhaps reflective would be the better word.

Utilizing technologies and techniques taught them from a prior alliance in the Unfounded Wars with the Shadewalker Clan, the Wavecrashers had almost adopted stealth designs as a second nature. They had been doing it so long now that every Unfounded ship looked like a double or triple hulled bundle of polygons that were just as deadly as, if not deadlier than, any other ships they happened to roam across.

The Unfounded had learned long ago that it often paid to be the one that few noticed, right up until you walked up and started slitting throats.

Another thing they had learned was that it often paid to be the one who hit first. How can the enemy hit you back if they are too dead to care?

Then of course there was the bit about scaring the shit out of them so they surrendered before the fighting began, but the Alliance decided that the tactic would prove futile as none were as yet knowledgable about Unfounded Battle Stratagems.

Beneath the massive fleets, healthy contingents of sleek Submarines (Orca-Class, for those in the know) tested their equipment before shipping out. And on the shoreline, Unfounded Braves cleaned their weapons and sharpened their Layer Knives, U-250s spent the time undergoing the various adaptations into anti-personnel, anti-aircraft, and anti-vehicular extensions. Obligatory pre-flight checks from the CloudRunner fighters, interceptors, bombers, and all sorts of things that for some reason were named after creatures that either hooted or quacked.

Soon enough, the three battlefleets departed, without much fanfare, truth be told. The Alliance citizens never really understood the idea behind sending people to their death in clouds of balloons and confetti. They simply made certain that their sons, brothers, husbands, and fathers went to battle with a few extra custom made hand grenades, gravity knives, asps, tasers, and other such implements of generalized unpleasantness.

A single message went out to the Hyst warfleet:

We hereby declare our intention to utterly annihilate you with liberal amounts of malice, forethought, and ammunition! Hope you don't mind.

After the three battlefleets left, the second mobilization began...

Admiral DeFray: "What''s the peliminary count of thier forces commandre?"
Grinz: "Three fleets, some several hundred ships thereabouts..."
DeFray: "This can't be good, so the Unfounded wont let us take on those texans in peace. How far out are the other backup fleets progressing."
Grinz: "Vice Admiral Zorin reports that they are still at least three months out."
DeFray: "With the strength of this fleet, we have no chance of taking them in straight combat. Have the subs execute directive 6." Reaching for the comm array and switching it to loud speeker, "all crews, execute derective 53, ready all long-range fighters" replacing the comm, "Commandre, prepare to come about. The three WaveCrasher battlefleets split up as they approached the combat theatre, intending to catch the Hyst fleet in an apparent pincer move. One fleet swung around to catch the enemy fleet from the south, another swung to bring its guns to bear on the opposition from the east, and the third one prepared to spear forward from the south east.

As each of the fleets got into position, their attack submarine contingents, numbering about 45 submarines total, split into groups of three and established a tentative perimeter, pinning the Hyst fleet between themselves and the texan mainland.

As soon as the three fleets finished their maneuvers, the strike would begin.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

OOC: For the record, its gonna be either damn hard or utterly impossible to figure out ICly what the Unfounded vessels are up to. There are three points as to why this is so:

ONE: The Unfounded Alliance speaks an awkward dialect of Navajo crossed with Hawaiian.

TWO: The Unfounded Alliance has been working out codes to encrypt and decrypt their own language for freaking ever. So anybody who wants to try and figure out what they're doing would have to figure out how to decipher coding for a language that has no recognizable syntax

THREE: The Unfounded vocabulary is just weird. Their only term for peace is exactly the same as the term they use to describe the eyes of hurricanes. They made up a great many words to use in relation to the more modern facets of their technology, and as such their word for anti-aircraft missile only has one syllable... or two, depending on the range.

In combat theatres, the Unfounded will speak to each other in their native tongue, with encryptions for all the important stuff. So if they order all fighters to launch and commence precision strikes against enemy aircraft carriers, you'd likely have to learn how to translate Unfounded via hexadecimals within thirty seconds just to realize that the order had been given...

With the majority of the ground troops and equipement landed, the JSS-Firebolt and the remainder of the second fleet weighed ancor and raced to attempt to reinforce the first fleet.

Rear Admiral Tzibua raced his fleet at full speed across the deceptively calm sea. He radioed Admiral DeFray "Sir we are heading to the rendez-vous point not, we sould have enough troops on the ground to deal with the Texans, how are you faing with the unfounded."
DeFray: Not well, I have spotted anomolys bearing down on our position, though the long range bombers seem to be holding against the forces to the south, a fleet coming from the east has been spotted. We are bairly fighting and retreating as it is, without backup, we dont stand a chance. The Space planes and heavy stealth bombers seem to inflicting grave wounds, it's like trying to take down gold dragon with a scapel. If you are to try to draw off some of the western forces, honestly I doubt you can, I might stand a chance. They're attacking relentlessly. I've lost almost a quarter of my F-22s and my F-31X interceptors are so busy, they'll be out of munitions within two weeks at this rate. After that all I have are the F-117Xs, and those are all out right not trying to hold back the tide."
Tzibua: "On the bright side" hollow laughs on both sides, "I recieved a report over the commstat that Captain Riveria in the Perception is moving into positon for directve 6 but Captain Cooper of the Crossbow ran across enemy subs and was forced to retreat to the remainder of the sub fleet. They are looking bleak too. Large numbers of enemy subs are converging on them we needed both of the subs in position, one barage of trident nukes wont be enough, we need both"
DeFray: "Agreed..."
Tzibua: "How's Vice Admiral Zorin fleet coming?"
DeFray: "Fully loaded but still a month away I'm afraid. I wish you good luck and god speed..."
Tzibua: "you too my old friend."

"Realistic? Hah. We have three invasion fleets prepared for something no one knows we'll be involved in. The people are already restless."

OOC: Ahh, I see. I guess I was a little unclear on the details then. Oh well, I'll chalk it up to the Unfounded deciding to pick off everybody one by one, and justifying their entry by citing the perceived insult of being threatened by Hyst...

I'm always up for a little teaching. I was just aiming to do a little 'take it from the top' bit. Just remember though, the Unfounded sure as heck won't hold back...

IC:

Alarms blared throughout the three fleets as the enemy aircraft approached, and fighters were scrambling to their fighters even before the order went through on the intercom.

From each fleet, about three hundred Peregrine 12's rocketed into the sky to meet the incoming Hyst fighter craft. Interceptors by design, they utilized reverse-delta wings (or whatever the damn things are called) to improve their at-speed maneuverability by several orders of magnitude. Their armament focused primarily on anti-aircraft.

At the same time, some one hundred Condor 6 fighter bombers went into the air in order to commence precision strikes on the Hyst fleet. Constructed to stealth specifications like the majority of Unfounded military craft, they looked much like normal stealth fighters, save with a smaller wing angle.

And finally, the entire Unfounded Strike fleet, all three battlefleets, came about. Bringing their rail gun batteries to bear on the Hyst fleet for a concentrated three-pronged bombardment. Their anti-aircraft batteries prepared for the oncoming enemy fighters, and the landing vessel crews bustled about like hummingbirds on PCP.

Across all three fleets, a single salvo was fired in unison.

And the Submarines moved in...

DeFray watched from the bridge as his interceptors scrambled in defense. "This doesn't look good one bit there's too many of them we dont stand a chance. Even if the meneuver's sucessiful, I just don't see how it could do enough damage to turn this tide."

At that moment Grinz came bursting onto the bridge "sir, sir damage reports are coming in, we lost the Decanter, it's dead in the water. Shot go it straight in the rear, tore off the rudder and the screws. We lost two engineers but the rest of the ship's surrendered. The reliant has amazingly survived without a hit, but the morale upon that ship is dead, thoy dont think they have a chance."

DeFray furrowed his brow, and lamented. "Then we have failed, hail the Firebolt and give the retreat signal we'll either have our lives or..."

He was cut short by a jolt and a flash of light as a large explosion rocked the flight deck, sending boddies and equipement skittering everywhere. A repot sounded from the flight deck chief "Sir w've been hit, probably a bomb, but I cant be sure." As crews desperately ran in to control the flames. It spread across the exposed fuel lines and aircraft exploded like fireworks on some twisted fourh of july. The men wo attempted to put out the flames, desperately trying to deter the fires present course, the main aircraft fuel storage. Like trying to stop a avlenche the crews despeated faught on but a the fires continued to spread, they ran for cover. It was repoted later that even the spaceplanes could see fireball as the aircraft fuel storage. Even DeFray, way up on the bridge, said later that he could feel the heat of the blast. Imdeatly the brave deck workers ran in to control the flames. They slowly, after what seemed hours, began to gain gorund and finally smother the last of it.

As the smoke cleared, the saw the destruction wreaked. There was a giant hole in the end of the flight deck, the even if thed used their reserve fuel, no plane could be launched. The back half was such that planes could still land. They had lost all but seven of their inteceptors and the raptor contingent was down to five.

DeFray did wht had to be done, he signaled the Unfounded cammander

Official memo of Admiral DeFray, cammander of Hyst's first fleet,
To the commander of the Unfounded batle group:

The great Jingoistic States of Hyst hereby reconizes you superior firpower against our tiny battle fleet has been disabled, of our thee ships, two are disable and the third has lost the will to fight, we hereby surrrender our first fleet to your mercy and have ordered the remainder of the second and the sub corps into a full retreat. We hereby apoligize for any insult or injury we may have caused. We would ask that we be allow to continue our ground operations in hopes that this operation wont be seen as a complete failue in the eyes of our superiors and family back home. We are at your mercy, please be leaneant.[/comstat]

As DeFray compleated his message, he collapsed and wept for his country. The fist major meneuver, and it was a complete failure, but the loss reaounded for only a moment. As the proud ould man straightened himelf again, he wiped his eyes and moved over to the planning table and reviewed the progress of his gorund forces.

They has sucessifully surrounded the Texans in a three killometer radious ring and were preparing to close the noose. DeFray lood forlorn out over his once proud ship, now smoking with foul black smoke. He radioed Tzibua
"Tzibua, order the ground commander to open fire, tighten the noose. Make up for our loss to the Unfounded with a crushing victory against the Colorado and Texans. Make them pay for our fialure."

Tzibua: "Executing now sir." Redirecting the comstat to the commander of the ground forces, General Croyten "General, I am ordering you to open fir with artilery. Move in your armor and copters and close that ring. Once armor's in position bombard them and move in the ground forces. Execute no general."

Croyten: "Order recieved and executing now."

OOC: I would have waited somewhat longer, hurling more insults in return, but the base fight with Colorado and Texas was somewhat one-sided due to the fact that not only are his ground forces presently engaged with yours, which will likely change, he is also dealing with attacks from Malkyer and McKagan, while being assisted by Shazbotdom, who would likely take offense at your ground forces...

Speaking of which, now that he has departed the field, due to the abovementioned circumstances, that ground invasion might be an issue.

That being said, the Unfounded Tribal Leaders are HIGHLY sensitive to percieved insults, and also follow a doctrine of backing up their own words. Had you actually sent any planes over the Unfounded territory, they would very much have been shot down by about thirty separate anti-aircraft missiles each, the survivors hunted down and executed.

"Warlord, damage reports indicate that the enemy fleet has been crushed. They have signalled their surrender and placed themselves at our mercy. Our losses, twenty interceptors and four bombers."

Warlord Howls-Like-Banshee grinned with narrowed eyes. "Take their vessels. Leave them one with which to return. We shall repair the disabled vessels and return to the homeland."

"And for the ceremonies?"

"No. We shall let their Warlord live. Were this a true war I would have ordered the drowning of every Brave in their fleet. We have humiliated them, and that is all we are here for. We shall allow them this small... mercy."

"Yes, Warlord. I shall signal them post haste."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

To The Hyst Warlord

Apology Accepted.

Request to continue ground operations denied. All Hyst ground forces are required to lay down their arms and return to their landing points to return to your territory.

All ships of the Hyst fleet, save the 'Reliant' and sufficient military transports to carry the ground forces, and all military equipment stationed aboard them, are now deemed property of the Alliance. We shall allow you to evacuate all personnel to the 'Reliant' and the transports and depart for your territory.

All support vessels, submarines, and other miscellaneous naval vessels are to bring themselves into plain view for boarding. Any vessel attempting to leave this theatre before we explicitly allow it will be destroyed.

Refusal to comply with any of these points will result in immediate termination.
