The Sardaukar: Past & Present

The Sardaukar were originally, the elite footsoldiers of The Imperium, loyal to House Corrino. Sardaukar are trained from infancy on the planet Salusa Secundus, House Corrino's original (and environmentally barren) homeworld as well as the formal Capital world of the Empire prior to the Butlerian Jihad. Known to the rest of the Empire as the Emperor's Prison Planet, Salusa Secondus is home to the vicious training grounds of the Sardaukar, who fight voraciously in a mock-up of natural selection - ensuring that only the best enter formal Imperial service. Like the Fremen on the planet Arrakis, the intense difficulties of simply surviving the barren terrain and fellow populace on Salusa Secondus leave only the toughest alive. Further, their training emphasized ruthlessness and near-suicidal disregard for personal safety. In conjunction with intense conditioning for loyalty to the Emperor, the Sardaukar are estimated as worth ten times their number in Landsraad house levies. The Sardaukar are normally organized under legions of roughly 30,000 soldiers each, and it is said that one legion alone can pacify any planet foolish enough to incur the Emperor's wrath. However, the Sardaukar have become far more complacent during the reign of Emperor Shaddam IV, when appropriations for training went down while the number of Bursegs (generals) increased.

However, after political dissent began to grow due to the Emperors incompitence in his ability to control rebellion by the Fremen on Arrakis, a military uprising occured in the Kaitain System. Due to the Emperor's absence - and the ruthlessness of the Sardaukar - planet Kaitain and its surrounding planets fell quickly to the military might of the fanatical soldiers. Burseg Lucius Severus lead the rebellion while only 19, effectively becoming the youngest successful Burseg to lead Sardaukar legions.

After the seizure of Kaitain, Sardaukar in the Gammu and Atreidae systems began to rebel, refusing to fight for a moronic Emperor, they pledged their allegience to Burseg Severus, allowing him to control 90% of the Sardaukar forces. During the Fremen rebellion, the Sardaukar rebellion 'broke the camel's back', so to speak, causing the Imperium to collapse after Duke Leto II Atreides assassinated the Emperor, but was killed by a Sardaukar guard outside of the Imperial Palace on Arrakis.

Since the time of the fall of House Corrino, House Severus and the Sardaukar Imperium have leade a blood-filled campaign to regain the land lost by the last Emperor and to effectively take economic control over the known universe. They came closer to their goal when they seized the Gammu and Guild systems. This allowed them to seize The Spacing Guild, the Harkonnen mines, and the CHOAM Corporation in its entirity. With the seizure of these main companies, the Sardaukar Imperium was able to seize control of the only spice melange mining sphere in the known universe. Thus, effectively seizing a large amount of financial gain.

The Sardaukar's Dominion

The Sardaukar's dominion is spread far beyond the home system of Kaitain. It expands across five systems, encompassing some of the most economic and politically powerful planets in the known universe. The following is a read-out of these systems:

The Kaitain System
Planetoids: Kaitain, Sosabro, Viovojilya, Salusa Secundus, Ferevan Prime, Ferevan Beta, Geisa, Heractius, and Verima
System Type: Organic; Life Supporting
Population: 1 Million
Average Gravity Intensity: 1.0g
Characteristics: Most of the planets in the Kaitain System support life to some degree, and are very utopic. Vacations are enjoyed by the wealthy on planets such as Kaitain and Geisa. However, this is the core of the military dictatorship, and where it is most shown.

The Gammu System
Planetoids: Giedi Prime, Giedi Beta, Feyd, Alburud, Hajina, Barbos, Joceni Prime, Joceni Beta, Gorzinya, Celvin, Horizo Prime, Horizo Beta, and Dedrenus
System Type: Barren; Adaptable
Population: 1.5 Million
Average Gravity Intensity: 0.5g (1.0g With Artificial Gravity Drives)
Characteristics: Very inhospitable. None of the planets naturally supported life except Giedi Prime, but ever since to Harkonnen rule, the massive amounts of pollution have force the populace into hive like cities. The planet is the center for economic power except for the Arakeen system.

The Guild System
Planetoids: Deranua, Planitus Alpha, Planitus Beta, Planitus Delta, Planitus Gamma, Planitus Lamda, Konietzko, Aranya Prime, Aranya Beta, Vorlors, and Onestil
System Type: Organic; Adaptable
Population: 423,000
Average Gravity Intensity: 0.7g (1.0g With Artificial Gravity Drives)
Characteristics: Not much technical data is known about the Guild system. Over five hundred years the Spacing Guild kept its secrets hidden. Only know are some of them being released.

The Atriedae System
Planetoids: Caladan, Verinou, Frailinous, Awar, Brutain, Jargeen Prime, and Jargeen Beta
System Type: Organic; Life Supporting
Population: 400,000
Average Gravity Intensity: 1.0g
Characteristics: One of, if not the, most beautiful system in the Sardaukar Imperium. Caladan was onced called the most beautiful planet in the universe due to its beches and oceans. The Atriedae system was the center for House Atriedes before the fall of House Corrino.

The Arakeen System
Planetoids: Arrakis, Fremaz, and Aroken
System Type: Barren; Life Supporting
Population: 100,000
Average Gravity Intensity: 1.0g
Characteristics: A barren system, only favored because it has the only planet capable of producing spice melange. Fought over for centuries before falling into the hands of the Sadaukar.

The Sadaukar Society

Living within the Sadaukar Imperium is much like living within Imperial Rome. People are content enough not to rebel against the military dictatorship. The upper-classes generally live happily, allowing the lower-classes to mingle amongst themselves without too much interference. But due to occupational rule in some sectors, brutality and discrimination is not uncommon.

The Sadaukar Classes

The Sadaukar are seperated into several distinct classes. Each serve the purpose intended for them. The following is a list of these classes:

The Imperial Sadaukar: The warriors, generals, and political administrators of the Imperial Sadaukar. These are high ranking military officials. The serve directly under the Imperator.

The Warriors: The grunts - so to speak - of the military junta. They are usually aristocratic and wealthy due to the payments earned for military service.

The Proletariat: The working class. They support themselves without being part of the jingoistic administration. Most are merchants, businessmen, or artisans.

The Serfs: Sole slaves to the Imperial Sadaukar and Warriors classes. They serve to live and live to serve. They usually only earn food and shelter for thir services.

Goddamn. That is nice and detailed. I like it when FT nations do this, because it's so much more interesting than having Umpteen versions of Germanic nations with near-identical politics/culture like you get in MT. Like mine. Mine is one of those, and I hate myself for it.
