Joint Exercises (modern world)

Pei Islands
South Pacific
For the upcoming military exercises, East Islandian naval forces had cordoned off the Pei Islands, a cluster of isolated, rocky islands in the south Pacific. They were all about fifty miles long, but uninhabited, due to a previous war here during the Islandian Civil War that decimated the inhabitants.
There were ten islands in the chain, all spaced fifteen kilometers apart. The waters around the islands were about fifty meters deep at its ten kilometers offshore, and a thousand meters deep when one went forty kilometers offshore. From ten kilometers offshore, the water depth was two-three meters deep, making for easy wading.
In Pei Island was the ghost town of Wakano City; here, nearly the entire population had been destroyed due to the war and subsequent large scale bombings by both West and East Islandian air forces. Now, only ruins remained, though much of hte infrastructure still functioned; traffic lights ran all day, running water was still around in much of the city. It was eerie to say the least, but part of it was due to the fact that the Islandian military now used it as a training ground and sent technicians to repair and regularly maintain parts of its infrastructure.

Aboard attack sumarine Blood Dawn
Captain Ok Ka-hee commanding
Deep water to the east of Pi-liu Island
The crew of Blood Dawn paused for a moment, ceasing their duties, as the Captain tossed a flower garland onto the warm, sunny waters of the South Pacific. They stood at attention as the battlegroup around them fired off a twenty-one gun salute five times, in honor of the fallen comrades and the innocent civilians who had lost their lives in the brutal fighting on the Pei Islands so many years ago.
Captain Ok watched emotionlessly. Her husband, a submariner like her, had been proclaimed "missing in action, presumed captured" in a raid on a West Islandian convoy during the war, in these waters. His submarine was sunk, but for a while, combat search and rescue teams had followed his transponder inland, until five days later, when they could find nothing but one of his boots and a campfire.
Captain Ok returned to her station, and sat quietly. The crew, aware of her past, said nothing. Instead, a hot cup of tea was brought from the gallery, along with new orders.
"Proceed to point Shueizo," Ok ordered. "Bearing two-two-zero. Depth: three hundred meters. Run diagnostic scan of all weapons, and report on readiness."
With that, Blood Dawn, the newest attack submarine in the fleet, moved silently under the waves, awaiting the arrival of their opponents from China, Spyr, and perhaps Dra-pol.

Suggested exercises:
Island seizing/amphibious operations (including a joint strike by combined arms services of the Asian nations)
submarine warfare
surface warfare
littoral combat
river warfare (many of hte islands have long, intricate networks of rivers)
please feel free to suggest scenarios.

btw, I will be leaving tomorrow, at around noon or so. I will try to post until then.
There is no mistake when it comes to Gen. Liu picking senior officers worth of becoming generals. When Sr. Col. Gao Chao of the 46th Division in the Shenyang MR returned to his office from a lunch in the mess, he did not anticipate an envelope marked CONFIDENTIAL left on his desk.
http://www.anyboard.net/gov/mil/anyboard/uploads/46th.jpg
Sr. Col. Gao himself served under North China until the recent upheavals that unified the Chinese nation. It looks like he could be the first example of former North China officers who could be promoted to some high place in the new ECA. Three days later, the public announcement of Sr. Col. Gao heading the 46th Division to the Islandian exercises was made. With new blood from the south, the 46th was increasingly emphasizing urban warfare.
OOC: What season is it over there? What facets of the exercise is the Chinese expected to participate in?

*Plans Hindustan-BG joint excersizes*
Eh, I don't think the Asian union is really Hindustan's thing after all...
And that's enough from me.
OOC: At least this RP will give me something to do for a couple of hours, since on MSN, I tried to make one of the those 'Meegos' look like my ideal self, but somehow, MSN decided that having Nazi uniform models isn't P.C. LOL! Oh what the heck? I probably don't have much time this weekend to do some serious RP'ing.
IC:
Prior to his departure, Sr. Col. Gao has sent a communique expressing his wish to serve as the defensive party in an exercise to take Wanako. Gao's interest in urban warfare has been disappointed by lack of such experiences in the recent Chinese Civil War.
Two Spyran Nezuhairuka-class submarines of the South Pacific fleet shall divert immediately to join the excercises [OOC: the third sub of the fleet, IC listed as on "patrol operations", remains in place to monitor traffic in and out of French harbours at New Caledonia, in case of a French buildup or further acts of piracy]. Further units from the naval base at Taminbar are prepared to depart once a mission profile has been established and Drapoel participation/need for deployment assistance is worked out. The sub commanders are eager to test their mettle against their Islandian counterparts, one submarine-loving nation to another, while together they can muster a platoon of marine infantry who are prepared to support as part of amphibious landings or shore defences.

Flotilla Commander Irwin Michael looked at the screen in front of him, containing his new orders. He had been patrolling Kazakh Provinces waters - there had been some refugee traffic lately - but he had just been told to deploy to the Pei Islands, for war exercises apparently.
This would be KP's first deployment in near combat against other nations. He looked out the rain streaked bridge windows of the fleets flagship, the Flank Warrior, at the other ships in the fleet. If you could call the fleet a fleet. And, indeed, should the ships be called ships?
Boats was a better desciption. The fleet was made up of four patrol boats and a high speed transporter. He was in command of it, however, and it could frighten the life out of any self respecting submarine commander. The high speed ship had a Regiment of men, around two hundred, on it, to be used in the upcoming exercises.
First, however, they had to ask if they could take part.
OOC:
I know I amn't an "Asian Nation", and yes this would be my first RP, but any experience is good experiences, especially around respected guys.

are we to use simunitions or a laser engagement system?

Wakano City
Pei Island
Combined Arms Assault/Defence Exercise
The city was alive with activity as technicians began final preparations, readying the place for the arrival of the Sinoese.
Given the fact that Pei Island was only about fifty miles long (with few suitable beachheads), there was no real room or ability for a full amphibious landing. During the Civil War, West Islandians had landed paratroops on the island in a very costly attack.
Yet it was difficult for the defenders also. However large the Sinoese division was, there would be barely enough men to patrol a city-island, that, at its peak, had contained five million people and had numerous tunnels.
Posed to fight in the city were the Pearl Guards Brigade, the Baykal Raiders Brigade (both Marine units), and the Army 11th Guards Mechanized Infantry Brigade, along with naval units.
******
The Spyran submarines are asked whether they would like to simply turn all of the Pei Islands into a hunting ground, whether they would like to simply fight Islandian submarines in submarine-submarine combat, or if they would like to do both. Amphibious exercises could also be scheduled on another large island, Hui Island, twenty miles away from Pei Island, which was exceptionally large (about a hundred miles long) with plenty of room for armored manuever (being plains).
OOC: Blanks and laser simulators is the closest we can have to a real bloodbath.

Sr. Col. Gao's troops arrived by plane, heavier equipment had to come earlier by boat. After a brief session of details by the local forces, the Chinese troops immediately began fortifying the city. It is traditional for the Chinese to have minimal contacts with foreign civilians. Wanako is a ghost town, they are the only ones living.
Despite a clear distinction between ranks, Gao donned his summer BDUs. His troops will soon be acquainted with the low recoil of the blanks. The 46th was a mechanized infantry division. Despite few provisions of Type 85-IV LTs and some Type 98s, the majority of the vehicles were WZ-551s and Type 89s, the first units of engineers began mining the beaches and establishing hedgehogs. The arrival of 40 or so 122mm MRLS trucks did not amuse Gao as their numbers were far fewer than usual. The plan was to have two lines of defense, the initial being in the the beaches, preventing any landing attempts, should that fail, the rest of the force is to concentrate in the urban center. 10,000 men for a city of 5 millions, the resources available are very scarce.

It took meer hours to complete the laser uplink with the Islandian forces they will be facing. Meanwhile, machinegun nests, SAM batteries and boobytraps have to be erected and armaments have to be readied.

Areas that or particular intertest to the defenders included the controversial airport, where several damaged passenger airliners haunt the horizon, reminding them that Wanako's history had been bathed in the blood of war.
http://www.sinodefence.com/army/armour/ifv_2lg.jpg
The train and subway tracks had to be closely guarded as the enemy is known to utilize many forms of transport. Several freight carriages with abandoned goods reminded the Chinese that war can be a waste and strain on anyone's resources.
http://www.sinodefence.com/army/antiaircraft/type95_1.jpg
Fearing the coming of airborne warriors, like paratroops, China's Guo Fu automated operating of 25mm SP quad cannons for air defense has been proven repeatedly in the past to be an excellent performer under pressure. The LD-2000s, whose numbers have increased significantly since the civil war due to their awesome firepower and uncanny accuracy will be deployed for shore defense. If their ammo are not blanks, every enemy infantryman within 3km will be pie filling. This new version was to feature TY-90 SAMs for extra firepower against aircraft.

to make things more difficult, there is a sizeable 'civilian' population in Wakano, played mostly by reservists and contractors.
And perhaps one or two special forces operators who may attack Sinoese positions at any time....

Will Sino bring any navy units to play?

OOC: Naval units are RP'ed by _Taiwan. He's not willing to participate due to exams. I can make a few introductory posts, but I'll only be free to RP after a fortnight. About the situation in Wakano, is the Chinese division posing as an occupation? Does the city have outskirt/suburban sectors? That should make things even more interesting.

So could KP join? And the patrol boats are corvettes, to tell the truth.
Only 200 men, mind.

I know I am being persistent and probably rather aggrivating, but how would I og about joining the "A Modern World" group. If this sort of thing goes on often, then it seems the type of group I would want to join.

*twiddles thumbs anxiously* BUMP?
Elements of the SRA in Sujava, and portions of the expanding South Pacific Fleet, remain available to participate in joint excercises, if and when they should occur.
Hudecian Pacific fleet questioningly asks if they may join the delayed naval exercises.
As the excercises seem to be delayed indefinitely, the Strainist Revolutionary Army offers interested participants a new venue... large-scale land forces excercises could be conducted in northern Spyr, along the Meyon river, while the North Pacific provides excellent opportunities to practice naval maneuvers.
The fact that such locations would prove ideal stageing grounds for military operations against eastern Russia is likely not lost on prospective participants.
Hudecian naval officers and army commanders notice the chosen location with great interest but decide that it is none of their business at this point in time.
Hudecia is willing to participate with Spyr in these exercises.
OOC: How much should I be sending? And what kind of forces?
The Spyrans envision large-scale land excercises based around rapid-moving mobile/mechanized forces capable of operations in colder climates, engaging Lyongian defensive elements such as found along the Russo-Lyong border.
In the north Pacific, planned excercises include both direct fleet battles, submarine hunting, and interdiction of noncombat shipping.
Hudecian military planners estimate that they would be able to provide the following forces for the military exercises:
1 Arleigh-Burke class destroyer
3 Halifax class destroyers equipped with 3 UH-60H helicopters.
1 Albion class assault vessel
8 N-AOR Transport vessels
1st and 2nd Arctic Regiments (total of 800 soldiers equipped with winterized vehicles and weaponry)
3rd Armoured Armoured Regiment (400 soldiers with 25 Abrams tanks and other assorted vehicles)
