Colonization Effort Announced

JEnsen Design Bureau, Fresno-

Today, the JDS and the Science Commissariat announced the beginning of a new exploration and colonization effort. Since the discovery of NP-1 and NP-2, the new Earth-like planets, there has been an enormous push to begin colonizing them. As a result, Jensen Design says that thanks to new technologies and the Mao Zedong platform, such a project is now possible.

The project, tenatively dubbed "Workers' Paradise," seeks to explore and eventually place a 500-man colony an each planet, if such a colony can prove sustainable.

As we speak, two modified Mao Zedong class ships, featuring newly purchased antimatter reactors and other upgrades, are being built at Jensen. Progress is looking good, and already, potential colonists (and Abhuman POW Workers) are being recruited to participate in this project.

Estimated time for launch is "when its done."

My poeples have been searching for a planatiod home since our city bubble broke away from our gas giant home planet, and began drifted through space. And if we would be allowed to either attach ourselves to the surface of one of these planets or to orbit around it, for we would like a reletivly stationary home rather than floating through space.

Will your people accept the ways of Socialism and the Patriotic Church ? If so, you are welcome to join us.

(ooc: Patriotic Church is our semi-deification of Communism, centered around a deified "people's will" that flows through all things, and which people have a direct connection to, and that acts through representatives called "Heroes of the People.")

Hmmm, I can agree with your church but not so much with socialism, but we are communists, perhaps we can keep our political beliefs but will accept your religion.

We are Communists as well, so we find no quarrel with you. We use the term Socialism mainly to appeal to a wider audience, so do not fear.

Today, it has been confirmed that the two ships have been finished, and testing indicates they may be ready for their flights as soon as next week.

These ships, entitled the Unity and the Solidarity, are 98% complete-recruitment is nearing those levels as well, as we have found appropriate candidates.

Today, in a glorious ceremony, the Unity and the Solidarity will be launched from Fresno, California SSR, to the depths of space, where after a final checkup at the Che Guevara Station, they will go to their destinations. Travel time is expected to be six months, a year.

To overcome some of the obstacles, the various members of the colonization team will be placed into suspended animation, with only "Gracie" AI systems and essential bridge crew staying awake. Even then, the bridge crew will be reanimated only every three weeks or so.

At Jensen-

The massive hangars that held the two ships were surrounded with an air of restrained yet anxious anticipation. Inside, each ship was getting a last checkup, a last inspection, that last bit of quality assurance that would reassure the public that this mission would turn out successfully.

Then, at a signal, the doors opened. The ships began to taxi out of the hangars. They were laden with supplies, and people-people like chemists, physicists, astronomers, soil scientists, lingusts, anthropolgists, and other scientists needed to run the mission. Repairmen, engineers, metallurgists, military personnel, Abhuman POWs-to provide labor-, and others were onboard the craft, as well. All were in suspended animation, sure enough. Thanks to recently purchased medical technologies, this part was possible, the part about keeping them in a deep sleep, that is.

The antimatter reactor was another new thing. It would provide a lot of energy- heck of a lot more than the Ion drives from before- and get them to NP-1 and NP-2 much more quickly.

Technicals specs aside, the ships began to hum and move out. The crews onboard did last minute flight checks, and soon, they speeded down the runway, lifting off with a resounding "whoom" and flying high into the sky.

The Unity and the Solidarity stopped at Che Guevara, where they recieved a final checkup. Then, they locked in their coordinates, and proceeded on FTL drives to NP-1 and NP-2.

I see, glad to meet you my Communist brothers, we will gladly accept your ways for they are our own, and now we must proceed to specifics, we have monitored your news stations and have watched as you launched your vessels, we have a single Battleship, so we can protect ourselves, I think it would be in the best interests of us both if we simply attached ourselves to a docking station, which we will pay for and construct, in order to save space for future generations of this planet. I look forward to other productive agreements with you in the future, good luck.

ooc: How well armed and escorted are these colony ships?

A message from the Capital, in Goldman.

The nation of Quang Duc disagrees with large amount of people colonizing upon this planet. What if the planet is deemed uninhabitable? Such an unessecary amount of death! We shall condemn this action until you change the amount of people sent.

ooc: How well armed and escorted are these colony ships?

OOC: Well, they do have the standard weapons complement, but they have no escorts. For the purposes of this RP, which is closed, I will assume they colonize these places safely.

You did bring up a point, though. I'll remember that.

As for Quang Duc's opinion.....well, like I said, this assumes they actually get there, and stay to colonize the planet.

Several months later...on the Unity-

"Wakey wakey! We're here! Oh joy, this is gonna be so awesome, we're gonna...."

Gracie, the ship's AI, had a way of not being subtle. Still, it got the job done, and it alerted the colonists and the new bridge crew, just awakened from suspended animation, that they were in fact, at NP-1 and NP-2.

The Captain, Captain Johannssen, said in no uncertain terms to Gracie: "Shut up!"

Gracie, embarassed, said, "Humph! Okay...."

The crew went to the bridge, and Johannssen said, "Okay Gracie, how's our ship?"

Gracie said, "It's spec-diddly-dacular! Everything is at 100% operational capacity."

Johannssen said, "Okay...."

He then said to the crew, who had just taken their positions: "Guys, I need a safe landing. Helmsman, find me a safe spot."

The Helmsman nodded, and scanned the area. He and Gracie designated a good, easily defensible area, and began landing.

The ship soon began to enter the atmosphere. The ship grew warm and it began to buckle under the friction from the gases and whatnot. But eventually, after 15 minutes, the ship was in the upper atmosphere of a very beautiful, and lush planet.

Johannssen said, "It's nice.....how're we doing?"

The helmsman said, "We're closing in, fast. ETA is 6 minutes."

Johannssen braced himself, and so did the crew. In the meanwhile, the helmsman powered up the repulsorlifts, and began slowing the Unity's descent. After five minutes, the helmsman got the ship to stop about 50 feet above the ground, and then gently put her on the surface.

They had arrived.

The CJAS People's Will and Hab-bubble24601 had been floating near the planet waiting for the colonists to arrive, once they had landed a message was sent, to their ship. "This is Hab-bubble24601 we made an agreement with government to permanantly attach ourselves to this planet, by way of docking tower extending out of the atmosphere, we will be sending a construction crew to build the docking tower, we will also be sending down supplies, we thought you should know so you don't un-knowlingly hole a ship and kill innocnet people.

Zyteslav waited on the bridge infont of the communication console, so that he could give the order to launch as soon as a reply was made.

Captain Johannssen replaied:

"This is the Unity. You may begin construction."

He then set about trying to deploy defenses and materials. So far, he had sealed habitation domes for living and work set up, and he had defenses set up, with patrols every half hour.

Johannssen reported back to Earth:

"This is Johannssen. We have made it. The air seems breathable. We've met some nice fellow Comrades, they will build a connection to us. We will, in the meantime, determine if it is OK to stay here. We're gonna set up hydroponics areas now, so I gotta go."

He then turned off the communicator, and began to oversee the mission. The civilians and the military types were working well, but the Abhumans weren't cooperative. Typical barbarian behavior; you could never get a Necker to do your work unless you fed or hit him/her first.

"Haha, most excellent, send down the materials first, then the wokers, let's get ourselves anchored to our new home planet, radio the People's Will and put them on full alert, but when we finish construction, half the crew will go on shore leave, for a week, then they return and the second half goes on leave, but, tell them to be polite to our comrades on the surface." Edgar returned to his throne and went into power save mode.
--On board the People's Will--
"Sir the bubble has sent us a message, seems we're to go on leave after they build the docking tower." The Comm-Officer turned in his chair to look over his shoulder at the captain. "And sir, there's a private message for you. I've relaid it to your cabin, it's qued up and ready to go sir."
"Thank you." The captain walked briskly to his cabin and turned on the message.

"To:Commisar-Admiral Zyteslav Boryenka, Captain of the CJAS People's Will.
From: Edgar.
We need an embassador to New Dornalia, on that planet, to talk with their leader, establish friendly relations, you will be sent down in a personal landing pod, no security, as a show of good faith, and no weapons except cermonial Sword and pistol, and make sure your in dress uniform. You will land shortly before the materials, so you'd best leave, now.

OOC: I'm gonna assume things went smoothly, so we have a thriving colony set up now...

IC:

Captain Johannssen by now had a colony set up on the planet, and there were even a few new babies to celebrate. Food and materials production was up, and it looked like things were going good.

The Solidarity had met a similar fate, however, it had found new metals and ores, which seemed to provide a better way to make steel and building materials. Some of the materials had been sent for processing back to Earth, but this was a major find.....

The dock had been set up for almost a year, The crew had become good friends with the colony, a few even had kids on the surface, the ship was no longer on high alert, but was helping construct buildings and things in the hangar bays, general happiness. Apperently the other ship had found new metals and ores, but samples of these had not been sent to the ship for annalizing, so it was assumed everything was good and in order, but if we could get some of this metal, perhaps we could improve, armour or weapons onboard, or build an extension for the bubble, it was getting more and more crowded.

The Solidarity sent up some samples of the metal. To be dubbed "leninite," it was a special type of ore that was really workable and when made into a hard metal, produced a substance 40x the tensile strength of steel and very light, too-it felt like one was holding a samurai sword when he held it, it was not much heavier than that. Also, samples of other materials, like "maoite," an improved superconductor, and "trotskyite," a new antimatter fuel, were available for examination.

As well, one of the Gagarin shuttles, modified with antimatter engines and repulsorlifts and FTL drives, was sent home with samples of the materials. They would be of interest to the Commissariat of Science....

Several months later, it made it back, and soon, the goods were at the Che Guevara Station, and were sent back down to New Dornalia City/Los Angeles.

"Phew, nice stuff you gots there, real impressive, if we had enough we could outfit the whole ship, make 'er as fast as a cruiser, but strong as a battleship, as well, shinier, hehe." The ships chief engineer, turned away from his table and removed magnifieing lenses from his eyes. Zyteslav was impressed, more of these materials was needed for a full refit, but if he could make a deal with the surface dwellers, perhaps we could get enough to refit or re-inforce key positions, like magazines and other vital sections of the ship, as well as gun barrels. "Looks like I'm headed back to the surface."

The New Dornalians agreed to ship some of the new materials to the ship. Granted, they needed as much as possible for their own colony, and for export to Earth, but they had a surplus at the moment, and were more than happy to share.

"ha ha, most excellent, we have enough to reinforce the magazine and the two main batteries, should do us some good, and I've refitted the engine to run on our old fuel and this new stuff they sent us, we don't got much so we'll save it for emergencies, but should do us a hell of good in a pickle." The chief engineer was filthy and tired looking, he'd been working in the engine for 6 hours straight. "You've done good, get some rest and shore leave tomorrow, I'll get all engineers working on refitting the magazine and batteries, but take a shower before you go to bed, and I'll sign off for extra soap rations, your filthy." Zyetslav gave a quick salute, which was returned, then turned on his heel and marched briskly back to his cabin for some rest. "Thank you sir!".
