The Thalaron Torpedo is based on the current Polaron Torpedoes modified with the a WarHead based on the Thalaron Radiation cannon technology used on the Scimitar class Warbird.
Current Technology Destriptions:
Polaron Torpedoes:
The polaron weapon was developed by the Klingons in an effort to create a torpedo-based weapon to keep pace with the Federation’s research into quantum torpedoes. Although the explosive discharge is not much greater than a standard photon torpedo system, the delivery system has been vastly upgraded to include a modulating polaron radiation generator. This surrounds the torpedo in a field of polaron emissions, which are constantly changing modulation. This allows the torpedo to pass through most forms of energy shielding in use today in order to impact directly on the target’s hull. The upgrade also provides the torpedo with a slightly increased range. The Romulan Tal Shiar "acquired" this technology.
The Thalaron Torpedo will basicly be a Polaron Torpedo with the Warhead replaced with a Thalaron device.
Thalaron Radiation:
Thalaron radiation is a type of electromagnetic radiation in the tertiary EM band, once considered merely theoretical by Federation scientists. Thalaron radiation is extremely destructive to organic matter on the sub-atomic level, and thus it is considered to be a biogenic weapon. After being exposed to this type of radiation, living tissue crumbles and reduces to inorganic, rock-like matter.
For his plot to overthrow the Romulan Senate, Shinzon and his Reman allies developed a small thalaron radiation projector, which Shinzon's accomplice Senator Tal'aura used to assassinate the entire Senate. In addition, a much larger projector was mounted on the warbird Scimitar. This weapon was theoretically large enough to encompass an entire M-class planet. These weapons are equiped on all Scimitar class Warbird built by Romulan Serpantol.
The WarHead of the Thalaron Torpedo will be based of the Thalaron Radiation Projector Designed, which will be scaled up slightly.
- Thalaron Torpedo Design -
Thalaron Torpedoes:
Thalaron torpedoes are Thalaron Projector WarHead tipped polaron torpedoes designed to pass through most forms of energy shielding, then penetrate the hull of the target ship. Once this is accomplished the weapon will project Tharlaron radiation through out the enemy ship killing the crew but leaving the ship farly untouched. Depending on the size of the ship it could take more then one torpedoe to eliminate the entire crew. One of these weapons disperse radiation through out a target approximatly 300 meters long and 150 to 200 meters wide. Calculations can be made for the number of weapons required to eliminate larger ships.
The first of these weapons has already been developed and tested. They will be ready for wide spead emplimentation on all Heavy Romulan Serpantolian Warships within the year.
