OOC: I'm back, I'm going to say that the IDF Civil War was completed during the past 2-3 months of my absense. I'm now RPing this as 1 week after the truce that ended the war. It isn't the greatest, but I need time to get back in the RPing groove of things.

Fleet Admiral Joseph Jacobson was silent as he stood on the port bridge wing of his wounded flagship. He was finally coming home. The ancient port city of Jaffa was the world's oldest port. It was here that Jonah left on his biblical voyage that led to his being swallowed by a fish. It was also the site of the only usable port left in Israel. The IDF Civil War had lasted 3 long months. It was by no means a short war, but it was a deadly war. The final death toll was 45 million.
The major port cities of Tel Aviv, Haifa, and Elat were nearly destroyed. They were unusable due to excessive mining by the resistance forces in their successful quest to stop the tyrannical government that had illegitemately taken power. The old Arab port of Jaffa was spared this fate only due to the successful interception of of the resistance ships by the Government Navy. Admiral Jacobson was now actually glad that his attempt to mine this harbor had failed.
His ship was being towed into the harbor where it would be dry-docked at the same dockyard in Jaffa where she was built. It was unlikely that she would be repaired. The IDF Civil War would be the last action of the great ship. The ISS Ozzie Guillen was barely floating. The ship's port outrigger was completely destroyed and the starboard outrigger was burned out. Numerous torpedoes, shells, and missiles had hit the super-dreadnought. All but one of her 4 primary turrets was destroyed. She was down 5 degrees at the bow and listing 7 degrees to starboard. Her once beautiful hull was scarred with holes and scorch marks.
The Ozzie Gullen and the remnants of the Navy were very much a representative for what had happened to all of Israel. The IDF Navy was down to 100 undamaged ships and had 250 heavily damaged ships, many of which would have to be scrapped. Over 1,000 ships were lost in combat. The mighty Ozzie Guillen was the only ship of the 4 total in her class that survived. The Navy would have to rebuild from the start as would the whole nation.
Jerusalem's Old City with its holy sites for Jews, Muslims, and Christians, was the only untouched part of the nation. Both sides had the decency to leave the holy sites untouched, but the rest of the holy land was in shambles. While brothers put down their arms, they wept at the site as this land once redeemed from it's barren state into flourishing Kibbutzim and Moshavim was returned to once again being barren land. 120 years of hard work had been undone in 3 short months.
Admiral Jacobson had lost many friends during the war. He knew his next job would be to help rebuild the seaports and civilian shipping industry in addition to the Navy.

Jerusalem
There were other problems for the devastated nation. There was hope that the resistance government would take over, but that hope was dashed in the final days of the war as they were wiped out in a final offensive by the Communist forces. The Resistance had won, but they now lacked leadership. The New City was primarily in ruins. The only recognizable part of the city was the University on Mount Scopus.
There was a state of Anarchy in the Jerusalem and the rest of the nation. People didn't trust Democracy as corruption by both sides had steered them wrong, but they didn't want a dictatorship either. A happy medium had to be found.
Ari Ben Zion was one of the few surviving leaders of the Resistance movement. He had traced his ancestry all the way back to King Solomon, the last king of ancient Israel. It was decided after many debates among people from both sides that a Constitutional Monarchy would be established. The Knesset and Supreme Courts would be reborn, but the executive would be a King. It was fitting that the popular Ben Zion would become the first king of Israel in about 3,000 years.
The government was set up in such a way that the Knesset had to pass legislation for the King to pass or veto. A veto could be overridden with a 60% super-majority. The courts would hold traditional roles of interpreting laws, passing judgement on cases. The Supreme Court would of course be the court of final jurisdiction. A 75% vote in the Knesset could kick the King out of office.
A special referendum election was held to pass this government. It received an overwhelming 75% vote of support. While many people who voted for it were unsure of whether or not it would work, they knew that they would never be duped in a fake election for an executive branch again. It was less likely to have a massive takeover in the Knesset where it would require the rigging of hundreds of elections to take power.
It was on the 14th day of Iyar in the year 5765 or May 23, 2005 that Ari Ben Zion became King Ari, the fourth Melech Yisrael.
