Prologue:

There was an infinite dark void that enveloped nothing and everything all at once. The darkness remained as the void continued its simaultenous existence and non-existence. No entities were present in the void of everything and nothing, thus, perception was impossible. Time, sound, smells, vision, feelings, thoughts, and a plethora of perceptions did not exist, thus, there was no way to measure any of those things in the void.

Suddenly, the impossible occurred. An action took place, as the darkness suddenly reversed itself. An infinitely bright explosion took place, producing the very first perceptions of time, space, and heat. The explosion receded, revealing a sphere of dazzling beauty, with countless smaller explosions erupted throughout the sphere, as various forms and colors began taking shape. As the flurry of action continued, the void began seeping back into the sphere, but could not take full hold. The lights and colors defied the omni-present darkness, standing tall and proud, refusing to be overcome.

The sphere continued to expand in infinite directions, as smaller spheres and objects inside began taking on distinct shapes and forms. The objects flattened, stretched, squeezed, and distorted into cohesive shapes, including spheres, spirals, ellipses, rings, triangles, squares, and so forth. These shapes transformed into their own dazzling light shows as even smaller explosions and displays of light shone within.

Abruptly, the seemingly infinite expasion was cut off, as a frame descended upon the unfolding scene. The frame shrank, as another seemingly impossible thing occurred. The view continued to expand, revealing the frame in its entirety, along with several strange ordered sets of symbols running directly above and below the frame. A crystalline walkway appeared to materialize out of another void of nothingness, while the whole frame and symbols revealed themselves to be a display of sorts standing an un-measured distance from the crystalline walkway.

Another frame structure rose up from the nothingness in the opposite direction of the first frame structure. The view focused upon the second frame, and the scene unfolding within, to the exclusion of the first frame and the crystalline walkway. Within the second frame, a seemingly perfect dot of yellow-white light appeared, as a field of irregular objects took shape.

The objects revealed themselves as large chunks of rock with dozens of small craters, canyons, and ridges etched within. Two large rocks flew towards each other, apparently intent upon mating with each other, as a couple in love. The larger of the two rocks stood its ground, as its smaller would-be mate crashed into it, causing the smaller rock to split into two smaller pieces. The two pieces flew away from the point of impact, as if they were dissatisified with the large rock. The two smaller pieces made their way towards the yellow-white spot of light, taking on two distinct forms. One seemed to grow a tail, while the other one remained true to its original self.

The tail rock gradually picked up speed, while the considerably smaller rocky second fragment mostly remained with its brothers and sisters for an interdeterminate period of time. The tail rock broke free of the field of rocks, and continued on its course towards the shining star in the distance. It passed past spherical bodies far larger than itself, known as planets, and approached the star. The tail rock began shining almost as bright as the star itself as the star focused her powerful energies upon the rock. The rock's tail began growing more elegant and defined as it shot around the star, throwing it on a journey back towards its original home. The tail rock would take on a name of its own, branding its specialty and uniqueness, a comet.

The comet would underake its round trip journey for thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, and even millions of times, while its brother rock remained within the embrace of its original home. The comet's seemingly endless round trips eventually had to end, as one of the smaller planets blocked the comet's trip to the star, its mistress. The comet did not know how to stop or avoid the planet, thus, it slammed into the planet with no feeling, no emotion, and no knowledge.

The sphere withered from the impact, as its beautiful landscape began breaking down and tearing itself apart. Over several hundred circular journeys around the star, the planet's landscape transformed from a lush green and blue display of beauty into a barren reddish landscape, full of dust and seemingly never-ending winds.

Millions of revolutions later, the comet's brother was suddenly dislodged from its home berth by another errant asteroid rock. The comet's brother began its journey towards the star, remarkably similiar to its sister, which transformed into a comet untold millions of revolutions earlier. However, the rock was not fated to become an indentical twin to its sister, for the rock never made it to the star. Another planet moved in to block the asteroid's journey, with a landscape remarkably similiar to the planet that its sister comet devastated.

The asteroid unexpectedly split into two smaller pieces halfway in its fated journey. The larger piece continued towards its inevitable date with the third planet of the star system, while the far smaller half continued on its course towards the star on a slightly erratic course. The large half was in the exact same situation as its long dead sister, speeding towards a planet, oblivious to its imminent destruction upon the planet.

The asteroid screamed through the dark void of space, with miniscule pieces peeling off the spot where it split off from its smaller half, creating its own miniature asteroid field. The beautiful sapphire and green colored planet travelled on its constant course, unawares of the destruction headed its way. The asteroid roared past the planet's lone satellite, and a short time later, slammed into a considerable expanse of sapphire in the southern hemisphere of the planet.

The planet groaned in agony, as enormous clouds erupted from the point of impact, along with an intense heat wave incinerating all that stood before it. The sapphire surface appeared to recoil away from the point of impact, as if the impact was some vile creature. However, the sapphire water surface almost instantly recovered as it rushed back into the point of impact, hiding it from sight. The planet continued on its course, as the enormous clouds settled back down, and after hundreds and thousands of revolutions, it appeared to regain its former beauty and glory. The third planet of the star system appeared to survive the cataclysm, a feat that its sister planet, the fourth planet, could not do so.

Suddenly, the frame re-materialized over the scene unfolding, and the view quickly expanded to include the crystalline walkway, with a form making its way across it. The form appeared to be humanoid in nature, walking on two legs, and crossing its two arms. The humanoid furrowed its eyebrows, and stroked its goatee, as it cleared its throat. The humanoid began speaking quietly, seemingly out of respect of the event unfolding in the second frame.

"Twelve hours. It made all the difference in the universe."

A disembodied voice on Goatee's left purred, " Twelve hours, eh? You DO realize the significance of the number twelve, do you not? The number of entropy and extrophy, combined. A truly omniscient number."
Goatee, who's true Name existed only in Time, glanced in the direction of the Voice. " Ah, my friend, there you are. You know, I couldn't have done this without your input. Your insight into the machinations of the elementals provided the, shall we say, spark that ignited The Creation."
" Your'e a liar, and have been from the beginning. But, I accept your applause. You couldn't possibly know the depth of the process without my.....interference," said the Voice.
"And you, my eternal partner, couldn't have pulled this off due to your skewed vision of reality."
They both chuckled as a blue streak of plasmion shot across the vermillion sky........

The alpha stirred. He was vaguely aware that this had never happened to him before, this sensation of coming to consciousness. He felt curiously alive. Not that he hadn't been alive before, but this was.....different. Almost simultaneously, he was aware of another sensation........an acute feeling of being isloated, alone. This shell he was in possession of had extremely limited sensory perceptions compared to the last one. He was aware that he had something poking him in his back. He sat up slowly, and saw that he was laying under a....what did The Voice call it?....ah, a tree. Rough brownish-grey bark, vivid green leaves. He was simply sitting there, absorbing and enjoying all the new sensations, when he heard a familiar sound.
" Alpha, are you here? Come walk with me. We have much to discuss."
Ah, The Voice. Very familiar. How could he forget the One who taught him, and cared for him, and....nurtured him.
He stood. It seemed that he was a bit taller than the last assignment he had been on. " Here I am, V................"
