The New Savian Foreign Affairs Conference will be hosted at the Embassy Row Convention Center (http://www.gameplanet.co.nz/images/ig/0002506,02.jpeg) in Monte Karlo, New Savio, for allies of New Savio to discuss Foreign Affairs that include Trade, Migration/Immigration, Security, etc.. Ambassadors will arrive to the Convention Center's main meeting room, where they will be greeted by New Savio's Foreign Affairs Minister Andrew Salinas, and once a sufficient amount of ambassadors arrive, the meeting will go ahead and start.
Ambassador Tetavisi's transport, a protected van from Emmitia's burgeoning car manufacturing industry, pulled up beside the Embassy Row Convention Center. From the front door, a man in Emmitian military fatigues and a rifle exited, opening the door for the ambassador. A stout, pale man with brown hair exited the back seat of the car, wearing a formal suit and carrying a black leather suitcase. He thanked the soldier, who saluted in return, and stepped outside. Appearently, he had been one of the first to arrive, as he walked into the main meeting room without any notice.
He dotted his head with a handkerchief, he was unused to these proceedings..

The drive was a short one for the two armoured vehicles as they made thier way along Park Avenue (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v207/JC_Denton/NationStates/d3ab0614.png). The distance between the Embassy Row Convention Center and the Colonial Embassy was short enough that Ambassador Kendra Anderton (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v207/JC_Denton/NationStates/d56449c7.jpg) would have felt comfortable simply walking the distance, but it had been decided that a short drive would be percieved of as a better entrance. It was, afterall, a diplomatic meeting - at such events, no matter how large or how small, how you were percieved was always considered to be of paramount importance.
The lead vehicle was a Miranda Sundiver (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v207/JC_Denton/NS%20Colonial%20Products/054a67c7.jpg), an elegant luxury sedan manufactured by Miranda Motors. Miranda maintained assembly plants in the Democratic Colonies and the Republic of JRV, a spare parts factory in the Commonwealth of Azazia, and an electronics manufacturing facility in the Queendom of Tree Hugging Lesbians. Soon though, assuming all went well in the upcoming meeting, Miranda Motors would be opening another assembly plant - this time in New Savian. Because of this, the sleek black Sundiver was not only ferrying Ambassador Anderton's two aides to the diplomatic meeting, but hopefully, also serving as an example of what could soon be rolling off assembly lines in New Savian if negotiations panned out.
The second of the two vehicles, a Cadillac Navigator (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v207/JC_Denton/NS%20Colonial%20Products/ca78a8a4.jpg), carried Ambassador Anderton to the meeting, sheltering her and two members of her protective detail behind its layers of bullet-proof glass and reinforced body panels.
Kendra Anderton, while fairly experienced in the great game that was international diplomacy, was being assigned the first ambassadorial posting of her career here in New Savian. She had been bounced around various positions in Foreign Affairs for a few years now, but had never managed to land any of the much sought after ambassadorships, until now atleast. She found herself feeling a bit anxious, but also eager and nearly overwhelmed with excitement as she sat between the two suitclad bodies of her protective agents as the two vehicles slowed to a stop outside of the Convention Centre.
The air was crisp and the wind was soft as Kendra stepped out onto the walkway outside of the Convention Centre. She waited, taking a moment to adjust her jacket as her aides exited the Sundiver to join her. The sound of Kendra's high heels clicking in sequence against the smooth concrete of the ground began as soon as the two aides joined her, and the form of four sharply dressed men and a single sharply dressed woman began thier walk towards the main meeting chamber.
Telavisi dotted his forehead against the handkerchief again. He helped himself to a glass of water that lay in the pitcher, and gulped it down. He was glad no one was there to see him. The Pirokajuon would likely smack him for the shameful display he was putting on. He was breathing heavily, sucking in air and then blowing it back out like a whale. To put it simply: he was nervous. Since the Imperial Civil War a matter of years ago, the entire embassy department had been revamped.
The old ambassadors were either killed or forced into retirement, they were too used to the old regime and would have likely supported the ressurection of the old Pirokajuon's regime. Telavisi had been working as an assistant to the Foreign Ministry in Sece Emmitia when Pirokajuon Nicanor Angelicus Victor declared victory over the final forces of Pirokajuon Retegon Tertius, ending the Retegonian dynasty, one of the longest in Emmitian Imperial History. Now the Pirokajuon was looking abroad for commerce and relations.
He sat down on a nearby chair, and as much as he wanted to slouch, he sat straight up. He waited for the conference..

Monte Karlo Traffic. It was absolutely the worst as one of the royal vehicles, a Kalipso Karrera (http://www.a-h.ch/galerie/Maybach%2062%202003.jpg) surrounded by several motorcycles, carrying Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrew Salinas (http://ia.imdb.com/media/imdb/01/I/08/65/38m.jpg), slowly drove past the high rises of westside Monte Karlo. The high rises slowly turned to the University Village, and that slowly turned the embassies of Embassy Row. Several of the embassies were unoccupied as the car drove up Embassy Street and than turned onto Convention Street, where most of the embassies were occupied. The car came to a halt in the convention center parking structure as Salinas, his personal aides, and his security guards left their vehicles and into the actual Convention Center.
"Good Morning, Mr. Salinas. Ambassador Telavisi of Emmitia is in the meeting room while I have word from security that Ambassador Anderton of the Democratic Colonies has arrived and is making her way, along with aides and personal security, up the escalators toward the meeting room." A convention center worker said as she joined his group, equipped with small headphones, a walkie-talkie, and a clip-board. The Minister nodded as he walked up to the meeting room door, placing his hand on the smooth handle. However, coming up the escalator came Ambassador Anderton and her team. She was a beauty, and actually looked a little Savian, but Salinas quickly took that out of his mind as thoughts on the meeting came back to mind.
"Good Morning Miss Anderton! How was the drive? Have you enjoyed your stay here in New Savio?!" He said as one of his aides opened the door to the room while he stuck out his hand to shake hands with the Democratic Colonies ambassador.

"I'm enjoying my stay here greatly, Minister Salinas, thank you so much for asking." replied the ambassador warmly as she accepted his hand. She offered him a broad smile.
He seems friendly enough Kendra thought to herself as she delivered a carefully calculated handshake. It was important that she not grip his hand too tightly, as that would be misread as sign of intimidation, but it was just as critical that she not offer forth a dainty, strengthless shake, as that would be a sign of weakness.
"I must thank you for providing us with such excellent accomodations." she continued as the two officials parted hands. "The embassies you've built are simply fantastic, and while I haven't had the chance to fully enjoy it yet, the Peace Gardens do look very inviting."

Imid Atümar (http://img268.echo.cx/my.php?image=chehabano1nu.jpg) , a captain of Madnestan army and the ambassador in New Savio disembarked from his Humvee in front of the Convention Center. He lit his cigarette, checked that his baret was in straight, and walked the stairs up to the door of the Center. His adjutant, who also worked as his bodygurad, opened the door for him. He entered the building, and headed straight to the meeting room. Savian guard saluted them, and Imid nodded, smiling. He was in good mood today.
The door opened, and the ambassador made a look over the room.
"Good morning, people. Im not late yet, am I? And by the way, before we start, one quick question; could I get a whiskey? It's damn hot out there..." While talking, he moved towards the others and raised his hand for a shake.

Ohhh..I'm not going to have to shake hands, am I?
Unfortunately, he was quickly convinced of the contrary when he left the meeting room and headed to the foyer, seeing the various ambassadors and ministers standing, shaking their hands. He did not descend the escalator, but stood at the top. He remained rather silent, except towards the ambassador to Madnestan. He caught him as a military man, and gave him a friendly Emmitian salute.
As for the others, well, he was partially too nervous to really go down and start shaking their hands, and most likely too tired, as well. Jet lag really got to him..

The old, battered 1987 Oldmobile jerked forward several times and sputtered pitifully as it came to a stop in front of the Convention Center. From the drivers seat a large fat man exited the car and handed his key to the valet. Sweating profusely, he gasped, "The air conditioning broke down two hours ago." The valet looked puzzled. "But it's only a block or two away from your embassy..." "I know..." wheezed the fat man. "Blasted engine overheated twice. Well, I'm gonna make my way inside now," he said, and did. Once inside, the fat man seemed to regain his composure. "Big Friendly Fat Guy, ambassador from Fatus Maximus. Sorry I'm late," he announced.

Beeing a fast moving, sharp and used to make fast conclusions jsut by looking at things, Imid soon found out what kind of people were in this room. He noticed Emmitian's salute, and immediately responded. He's first thought was that there stood another soldier, which felt comfortable as he was still quite new in diplomatic circles, and felt unsecure surrounded by men in fine suits. And, what was the worst thing, without his gun.
So, he took few steps to the Emmitian, and sat next to him.
"Good to see a colleague amongst all these politicians and businessmen. My name is Imid Atümar, and i'm a captain in mechanized corps", he introduced himself.

Impressed by the ambassadors hand shake, Andrew offered her a warm smile and stopped for a while as an ambassador left the meeting room and another arrived. "Your welcome, we here try to do anything and everything possible to provide our guests with an excellent stay. And yes, the gardens are very beautiful, I personally think it's one of the best places to be in the city." he said as he noticed another guest arrived. The young convention center worker than opened the meeting room door, signaling the start of the meeting.
"Everyone, everyone, welcome to the Convention Center! I am Minister Andrew Salinas, the Minister of Foreign Affairs here in New Savio. I now invite you all to join me inside of the meeting room, so that we can begin the meeting and discuss. Now, drinks will be served inside, Savian Wine to be exact, and also, please try to leave all excess aides, assistants, and security outside in the lobby!" said the minister as he walked into the meeting room along with three aides and a personal security guard. Once inside, he took a seat at the main chair inside the meeting room.
The room was medium sized, with a large, long glass table in the middle with very futuristic, yet modern chairs running along it's edges. On one side was a large glass window that showed the peace gardens, and on the other a wall, with the flag of all the nations with embassies in New Savio along the edges and below a bar, with a young bartender standing behind the bar, eagerly awaiting the chance to meet the ambassadors. The room was well lit, and about four security guards, heavily armed, stood in each corner.
"Now, let's begin the meeting!" he said smiling as a labtop popped up from beneath the table onto the tabletop in front of the minister.

There were several minutes of akward silence. No one seemed to know what to say. Not only could you have heard a pin drop, you could have heard the person pick up the pin, move it slightly, and the sound his fingers made as it released it. Finally, the Ambassador from Fatus Maximus said something. "Lovely weather we've been having, isn't it?"

"Yes, lovely weather." agreed Ambassador Kendra Anderton akwardly.
What a strange man she thought to herself, lifting an eyebrow as she studied the overweight form of the ambassador from Fatus Maximus.
"Anyways, before getting down to business," Kendra continued, still a bit wary of the odd man from Fatus Maximus, "the Democratic Colonies would like to first extend our thanks to Minister Salinas and the Government of New Savio for providing us with such excellent embassy grounds."
A scattered wave of applause emerged from the diplomats around the table, with the aide and security agent seated behind Kendra joining her in clapping.
Democratic Colonies
23-05-2005, 04:19
"Now," said Kendra as the aide behind her rose to place a briefcase onto the table infront of her.
"As you know, Minister Salinas, the Democratic Colonies is the founder of an organization known as the Free Commerce and Trade Association of Democratic Nations (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=391023&page=1). In it, member states agree to open thier borders to free trade and unobstructed commerce between themselves and the other member states - in our experience, this has proven to be very beneficial to those involved. Our economies have become more efficent, quality of life and consumer power has risen, pay has gone up and prices have gone down.
The Free Commerce and Trade Association of Democratic Nations, or FCTADN, is open to new members such as yourself. New Savio is a democratic nation, with an intelligent, hardworking population - a perfect candidate for FCTADN membership."
Kendra Anderton resisted the urge to glance around the table to see what the reactions of the other ambassadors was as she continued to direct her calm gaze at Minister Salinas.
"Has your government ever considered joining a free trade association?" she asked.

Imid Atümar followed carefully as the fancy lady opened her mouth and started to ask New Savio about some sort of a trade agreement. "Goddamit, what am I supposed to say now, if anythig?" he thought himself, feeling more and more uncomfortable in this company. His good mood had started to vanish already when that fat man had blocked his way to the toilet for a minute
-that huge person had been in trouble forcing himself through the doorway!- and then even walked at him. He was also annoyed by the fact these people used to serve only wine instead of good whiskey. In official meetings of any sort in Madnestan it was rare to discuss anything without some liquir beeing involved.
Now these were talking about free trade, something that would have been extremely welcome for his country, but decided to say nothing yet. "Guess there is no rush...and im not supposed to interrupt them as their discussion has nothing to do with Madnestan" he figured. "Aww, this is difficult... why didn't I stay in the army?!"

BUMP 'n Roll
Telavisi quickly lept into the conversation, literally standing up to address the crowd. One could tell that he had seen better days, more adventurous days of youth, but now he had grown soggy and short, slightly fat with tedious office work.
"As you might well already know, our nation has just recently, a number of years ago, emerged from a civil war. Absolutely dreadful, but I had the privilege to serve with the Imperial Army, until I was declared unfit for service after my wound," he noticed he was getting off track, in the way old people in Emmitian nursing homes often do.."Ah, well, anyway, the point of the matter is, is that the xenophobic old regime has long since been done away with, and the Pirokajuon Nicanor Anglicus Victor sees the importance of having diplomatic and trade relations. However, while we cannot say that we have as of yet opened up our borders to full free trade (far too perilous, with the free flow of fugitives and refugees and all,) we would like to appleal to the nations here to invest upon Emmitian Steel, and oil."
"Our oil fields have just recently been discovered, although the government does not at this time wish to develop it and nationalize it. Therefore, there are unclaimed oil fields in Emmitia that could fuel nation, but they are not tapped. If one of your nations should care to invest, I would be glad to discuss it further. As far as the steel, our Emmitian central mountain ranges, especially north of Melitopol are positively glowing with iron, tin, and some minor titanium deposits. We used to have quite the steel industry. But, with the war, the old Pirokajuon employed the standard "by fire and iron" tactics, and destroyed the mines. Therefore, we search for foreign investors in those markets as well."
"Of course, the Imperial Trade Ministry will take a tariff on trade and a tax on the resource collected, but other than that, the site open to you, should the Trade Ministry confirm it."
He almost sat down but thought badly of it, he quickly stood back up. "By the way, would the honorable nation of New Savia happen to have any whiskey?"

"Yea, I thought I asked it already, but it somehow got forgotten due the interresting conversation", captain continued smiling. "The climate here in New Savio is somewhat hotter than in Madnestan, and im not used to take wine, no offence against the marvellous products of your vineyards of course. But one quick shot could really do good right now!"
"And, about your trade proposal.." he suddenly changed the subjekt, turning to Emmitia's ambassador; "I have to say we have enough oil and steel for our still-quite-small industry, but what we need are ready products, in form of civilian vehicles, trains, cars and such. And aeroplanes, if possible. We have a large agricultural sector, so we'd pay by meat and grain. And uranium, new mines have been just recently opened. We have no nuclear reactors yet, so all we dig up can be sold, basically. Is anyone interrested?", he asked, looking around again with his fast moving eyes.
Telavisi turned towards the Madnestanian ambassador. "A slight industry is burgeoning in auto-manufactuing, if you are interested in such a trade. And, meanwhile, I quite agree with you on the temperature of New Savio. A paradise, I think, but somewhat hotter than the more..milder temperatures of Emmitia," he wiped his forehead, "especially near Cetsifon."
"We would be willing very much to accept a payment in food, Madnestan. Even the southern steppes of our nation are not the most fertile. The alluvial plains of the Savinu river have nearly been taken up by farms, and yet they still do not produce enough. Also, as for the New Savians here and those attending, the Pirokajuon would be willing to do trade for goods, resulting in payment to Emmitia of manufacture items. Factory machines, basic factory robotics, so on, so forth.."
"Of course, this is all up to you, but I may assure you that the Pirokajuon would be very pleased that such a deal were arranged by our nations, especially for machines to widen our industrial capacity."
Aware of how late the traffic had made him, Xavier slammed the door to the hired car, and ran into the conference center. His recent jet lag had left him in bed for a good part of the day. He frantically stood in the middle of the lobby and looked around. He could hear voices behind a door to the left;
"...to widen our industrial capacity..." he ran into a the room it came from, which was seemingly full of people.
"Erm...Terribly sorry if I'm late.."

"That sounds very promising, very promising indeed.." said the Madnesti, litting his cigarette same time and "...but I have to, of course, ask my Mast-I mean, our minister of trade about the details. Still, im convinced that something can be arranged, as our lack of trucks and trains has become actually pretty bad."
He was just about to continue, as the door opened and a man ran in, apologizing . He nodded to the newcomer, and then turned bakc to Telavisi.
"What I've heard, last harvest was pretty good. Though it ahs been reduced due the humanitarian help to Saharistan and to people under those parts of North Mack we currently control." He took a long breath of smoke in him, and let it slowly out from his nose. "But still, I think a trade agreement can be confirmed. Just give me a second, while I call to the ministery" he said, pulling his phone from the pocket in his uniform.

"Oh, but thank you for coming out to stay in New Savio as ambassadors, it's been a pleasure hosting you." he said as she began her next statement. The minister listened intentively as the Democratic Colonies' ambassador explained in detail the FCTADN. Several of his aides talked about joining the association while Andrew thought of the several benefits that included opening New Savio to more people, putting it on the map in foreign nations, something he certainly wanted.
"The FCTADN sounds very beneficial, and I certainly am interested as it betters our economy and is essential in the globalization of New Savio. I'll be sure to inform other national leaders, and im sure we will become new members of the asssociation. He said while Telavisi began his talk on the issues in Emmitia. Although not interested in either steel or oil at the moment, his aide wrote several facts about the vast oil and steel within Emmitia, making it a referance to look at in case the nation does become in need of steel and oil. The minister than looked up from what his aide was writing to answer the ambassador's request of whiskey.
"Yes, of course, our kind bartender will be with you shortly." He said as the bartender left from her spot and began her trip around the table, asking politely if the different ambassador's and their aides needed a little drink. "As for the need of passenger trains and airplanes, the Citra Corporation of New Savio offers many different vehicles used for public transportation and commercial flying. For example, look to the television screen... He said while turning to a screen at the other end of the room, directly in front of him. One of his aides began typing on her computer, and the lights dimmed slightly, and pictures of commercial planes, buses, and trains appeared.
"First, the Citra Corporation has recently built completion of the Korpus Khristi Transit Railway (KKTR), a maglev railway to serve the province of Korpus Khristi.
The price is quite cheap, and Citra can build a national line in around a year, depending on the size of your lines. Also, these maglev railways are very high tech, and here is a picture of how these trains run...
And for municipal rail, Citra offers several light rail services, including the one they implemented in Forza last year...
As for airliners, Citra has devoleped a commercial airliner, using a two-class layout with 266 seats and can go 10,562 Miles without refueling. It is called the Citra-150, and is the carrier of the official airlines of New Savio, Monarch Airlines.

Now, if any of you have any questions, please be sure to contact me and i'll be sure to get you into contact with a Citra Sales Representative."
The lights than came back on as Telavisi began talk with Madnestan's ambasador until the ambassador of Kalrod barged in. "Welcome, welcome, please take a seat anywhere available to you."

Big Friendly Fat Guy nodded amiably throughout the demonstration. When the lights went up, he addressed the representatives. "Transportation between our nations is going to be a bit of a problem. You see, the collective weight of 280 million or so Fatus Maxians creates a gravity well around our borders, making travel into the nation impossible. It has effectively kept our nation isolated from outside influences for over a thousand years. In fact, the only known way for anyone to even enter the country is to hop on one foot, spin around in circles, and wave their hands in the air. Since trains or aircraft obviously cannot do this, any transit system would have to be one way from Fatus Maximus to New Savio."

Imid couln't help himself when listening that marvellous fatty. He leaned back, and started to laugh. He almost swalloved his cigarette, and only Telavisi's well aimed slap at his back saved him from to be chocked.
Telavisi stifled a laugh as well, trying desperately to be diplomatic. When Imid began to laugh, Telavisi himself couldn't help it, and let out a small chuckle which he struggled desperately to hold back. Seeing the man almost choak on his cigarette, he smacked the Madnestanian ambassador on the back.
"Ahem. Yes. The roads are being rebuilt in Emmitia as we speak, and many more miles being laid anew, and the railroad center at mainland Savinu has been bustling for a while now, so I'm afraid we cannot enter into any agreement for transportation equipment."

BFFG glared at Imid and Telavasi for a second, then grinned. "How we discovered gravity well is an interesting bit of national history, too. It was first discovered when Gorge Porker decided one day to take a leak in the bushes near his house, right on the nation's eastern border. When he returned a few minutes later, it was to find that his entire civilization had suddenly packed up and gone. He lived off the land for six long years of loneliness and hardship until one particularly bad summer drought. Moved by desperation, he attempted a primative one-man rain dance and suddenly found himself in the middle of a McChubster's hamburger joint."
He chuckled a bit, fondly recalling his childhood history lessons. Well, at least the naps during his childhood history lessons. He shook his head, clearing his thoughts. "Anyway, back to business. The Ambassador from the Democratic Colonies has raised some interesting points on trade. Fatus Maximus would enjoy joining such a trade agreement. But what exports does your nation specialize in? What imports are you looking for?"
