(OOC: This is my first time doing this, so please bear with me. Constructive, polite feedback is welcomed. Derision, snide remarks, and insults are not welcome. If there is anything unrealistic about this armor, or any way it could be improved, please share it with me. Thanks.)

Introducing the RBRG-2005 Tactical Armor, which will soon be issued to every soldier in the Roach-Busters Royal Guard (the most elite of the elite).

This armor is made of an improved version of Spectra fiber (http://www.firstdefense.com/html/vest_the_miracle_fiber.htm), (IRL the strongest man-made fiber on Earth, ten times stronger than steel), and is twelve times stronger than steel. It can withstand extreme heat and extreme cold, and is ideal for combat in any terrain, in any type of weather. It is fireproof and can stop all pistol rounds and most shotgun rounds. It can stop rifle rounds up to 308 armor piercing. The only drawback is the armor's rather heavy weight (25 pounds)

Cost: $7,500 ($3,750 for allies)

OOC: I like it, and I am DEFINITELY no expert on armor in any way, shape, or form, but it does seem to me like something made of a material so advanced would cost more than you are selling it for. Am I wrong? If so, I am sorry I wasted your time, well done.

I like it. Especially the stretching and all with the baby and the 800 pound man. I'd like to see it tested.

OOC:
I suggest the Wikipedia article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dyneema) on the subject, if only because it doesn't read like a TV infomercial.

A material that can stretch under tension is not good for body armor unless it is reinforced. Otherwise, the projectile will not penetrate the material but will keep going to transfer all of its force to the wearer. The results can be just as deadly as actually having the weapon penetrate through and actually directly wound the person. Remember that modern vests do not stop a bullet, but rather dissipate its momentum so that the wearer doesn't get hit with the force of a speeding truck. This is why most battlefield and police armors have titanium or ceramic plates that will 'catch' a bullet. The downside is that successive impacts are less and less affected by said plates. The fact that Spectra is extremely elastic and durable does not particularly help a soldier survive multiple impacts.

Further, while the material can be subjected to temperatures of up to 150 degrees celcius, it will begin to deform at lower temperatures, making its fireproof nature quite pointless, especially since the wearer will probably be dead by that time anyway.

So....interesting concept, but nothing invincible. Still, very nice.

What caliber bullet can it stop. can it stop anything below a 20mm round

RR...read please...it says it can stop up to a .308 AP round at moderate range.

Ok, I'm an armor and arms freak.
1) Please tell me what era this is in (1950-1960, 1991-1998, 1999-modern, slightly post-modern like 2006)
2) Its too cheap, Kevlar's more expensive and it is 5x stronger than steel.
3) Make sure to fully explain how it is woven
4) How is it able to strech and stop a bullet before the magic 44mm mark
5) Are the fiber nanofibers or micro-embedded fibers....or maybe liquid crystalline.

Overally, just explain why it does what it does and how it is made.

So does it mean it will stop .308 Caliber or mm. Stop it will stop a 7.62mm

2)I'll change the price
3)Not sure, I'm not an expert on the subject
4)I fixed that

.308 caliber. There is always a mm if its metric and a period before the entire thing if it is standard. In the case of items that are larger than one inch (100 calibers), then the unit will always be used. And yes, a .308 is a 7.62mm round.

From www.defense-update.com: Materials based on the Honeywell Spectra fiber are also used in various vehicular protection applications. Spectra Shield PCR designed from the Spectra fibers offers a floatable protection module, which almost does not absorb moisture - an important consideration for amphibious vehicle and floatable protection. The Spectra high strength polyethylene based fibers were introduced in the 1980s. It is 10 times stronger than steel, these are 40%, stronger than aramid fibers. The Spectra Shield is constructed from parallel strands of fibers held in place with a resin, every new layer is cross plied at right angles and the entire structure is fused into a composite structure under heat and pressure. The 3rd generation Spectra Shield uses an integrated Ceradyne ceramic face plate, defeating high velocity AP rifle rounds. This type of protection is widely used in the Small Arms Protective Insert (SAPI) used with modern body armor.
