Jensen Design Bureau, Fresno-
Today, the JDB and the New Dornalian People's Navy have announced the completion of the Mao Zedong, New Dornalia's newest and first interstellar battlecruiser.
"Today is a great day for all of us. This ship is but the beginning of a new era in our history- one that will see Socialism expand to the stars, and one that will see our Workers and Peasants joining the our rightful place amongst other spacefaring entities," said Leonidas Jensen, head of the Jensen Design Bureau, which worked with the PN to see the project to completion.
Plans are underway for a launch, to be scheduled "ASAP," to be held at JDB's Airfield, as the Mao is atmosphere and space capable.
Guests may attend, no flash photography please.

The Mao Zedong began rolling out of the hangar. Stripped of its covers, hangar doors opened, its gray, boxy, yet Bauhauslly elegant form moved out, moving with the aid of attached repulsorlift pads and a farm tractor.
The crowds outside cheered; the fruit of their labor was revealed in plain sight. The pride of a nation, now ready to prove itself.
The Mao was soon moved out to the runway; the Land Rover bearing the Command Crew moved to the ship. Out stepped New Dornalia's finest; Captain Chang, an ambitious, beautiful veteran of the air force and Commander, Lt. Nakayama, the gruff, old ex-Scavenger Science Officer, Tech Sgt. Ross, a man with nerdy glasses, chosen to be the Ships' Navigator, Maj. Laredo, the Chief Engineer and only Abhuman crewman (he was an elf), and Commissar Danilov; the man who would ensure the crew stayed towards the Party line.
The crew walked onto the Mao, and stepped onboard using the onboard foldout ramp. They took the bridge, and Captain Chang said:
"All hands ready?"
"All hands ready, Comrade Captain."
"Let's do this."
The Mao began to move. Slowly but surely, the Mao began to pick up speed, its Ion engines and repulsorlift drives picking up speed and working to lift the ship off the ground with great effort. Soon the Mao was racing down the runway, and everybody prayed for a miracle....

Captain Chang said, "Got a status report?"
Tech Sgt. Ross said, "Engines at 100%. Power is at 100%, things are stable. We're moving quickly-and...."
Ross pulled back on the stick. A lurching was heard, and the humming of the repulsorlifts grew to a buzzing. The ears of the crew started under pressure....
The Mao had lifted off.
"100.....200....500....1,000...."
The Mao kept climbign higher and higher. Finally, after an agonizing 15 minutes, Ross said:
"Guys...we made it. We're in low orbit!"
He then began to manuever to ship to the Che Guevara Station. He contacted the crew aboard:
"Che Guevara, this is Mao Zedong. We made it-permission to dock."
The crew replied, "Permission Granted."

The Light Cruiser Dauntless, recently entering her fifth century f proud ISF service, was in the area. At 500 meters long, they were usualy used as lighter exploration ships when the ESDs could not be used
"Sir, we are picking up aplanet, about one jump away. Technology level of about fifteen centuries ago"
"Jump us in near the edge of the system. I don't want to utterly suprise them."
"Ay sir."
The Dauntless jumped, and emerged in the outer reaches of the system. It sped inwards, untill it had a good sensor image on the planet.
"Engage ECM, I don't want us found untill the best moment.
For a few weeks the sat in ECM, translators working on transmisions from the planet. They gained insight into some parts of the culture that was interesting, and some parts that they would rather not know. aproaching their second month in orbit, they detected something.
"Sir! a ship launching. quite slow, though. Technology is consistant with the rest of the tech of the panet."
"Track it. Where's it going?"
"Space station sir."
"Tap into their transmissions. I want to know what they are saying."
"Aye, sir!"
a few seconds later, static started, then faded out. Words incomprehensable spat out, but were almost immedeatly translated.
"Che Guevara, this is Mao Zedong. We made it-permission to dock."
A second later a second transmission camefrom teh station and was translated.
"Premission granted"
"Helm, take us on bearing one-zero-six, Speed 800 KPS. Mr. Vharn, disengage the ECM. Communications, get us on that freqnecy. Start the translators."
"Aye sir, bearing one-zero-six, speed 800."
"ECM Disengaged, sir"
"Trnaslators fired up, frequency transmission... now"
"Che Guevara Station, this is the ISF Dauntless. We are a peacefull exploration ship. We request premission to dock"
The Captain waved for the transmission to end.
"Have the ship's computer make us some cloths that would fit in there, but not perfectly. I want us to appear freindly, but not to be mistaken with their own."
"Aye, sir."

The crewmen aboard the Che Guevara Station were surprised; this was their first alien encounter aboard the station.
They then said, "Very well...you may enter. Welcome to the Che Guevara Station. It may not be what you're used to, but we'll give you good food and hospitality nonetheless. Go to No. 6 Dock."

"Proceeding to dock 6 now."
The Dauntless docked with the station, and the small ground team dismebarked.
They were wearing cloths similar to that that the ND crew was wearing, but different. It was a cross between a civilian work suit and a military uniform.
They each had a necklace on what was obviously not for decoration. It was the translator.
Before they left the ship though, the captian ensured that there were no weapons.
"Remember, no weapons. of any kind."
"But, sir.."
"NO"
the man took out a small knife and put it in teh airlock locker.
They emerged from the airlock...

Greeting them were several Cosmonauts, in blue jumpsuits.
The leader of this group walked up to the crew from Dauntless and said, "Good day, sir. Welcome to the People's Space Station Che Guevara. I am Comrade-Captain Michelsen, and on behalf of the Workers and Peasants, I welcome you aboard."
He then extended his hand as a sign of friendship. Hopefully, these guys would understand a handshake.

"A tour of your station would be good, but I'll give you a tour of our ship first."
He led the Captain and the otehrs through the ship.
"The Dauntless was originaly built over five centuries ago. As it stands, it is of medium age in the Fleet. Some ships have served for well over thirteen centuries."
He led them down a corridor, anyone een dressed as they were. He paused at a blast door in the side of the hall. He dialed a code in it, and a small part of it went transparent. Through it was a few fighters and other small craft.
"These are our fighters and small craft. The fighters, unlike our larger vessels, rarely serve for more than a few years. They are constantly updated with new software packeages, nav maps, enmy profiles, allied profiles, IFF recognisers, and the like."
He led them past the door and through a door onto a catwalk. Around were what looked like gun stations on naval battleships. "These are our Eectromagnetic Cannon emplacements. Each can be controlled manualy or by the simple AI we have onboard. A light craft such as ourself does not have the more advanced P-Beams or Particle cannons, for the simple reason that the power requirements for them are far beyond what we have."
He led them along the catwalk and down a level, to where a large tube was, going into the wall.
"This is one of our engines. Each engine operates similar to the drives on the Mao Tse-Tung though at a much higher level. This ship can travel at sublight speeds of about 70 precent of the speed of light, mostly because of its small size."
He led them along mrore catwalks and to an odd device. It was two of what looked like smaller engines, and had a bunch of power arcs between them. "This is the jump drive. How it works or why it woks is unknown, even after almost ninteen centuries of use. What it does is sends the ship somewhere ele, mostly accepted as another universe or dimension. The ship stas there for a certain amount of time and then reverts to normal space at it's desitnation."
He led them out of te catwalks and onto the bridge.
"This is the nerve center of the ship. The simple AI can control teh ship entirley, and can make decions about wether to fire on enemy units or not. We can also control the functions, such as Electronic Countermeasures, which is our cloak, sheilds, jump drive, speed, weapons, communications, etc."
He led them back to the airlock. "There is not much else on this ship, but ther are many other ships. Two of them are aincint, pre-dating our nation by many centuries. They were, according to what their Artifical inteligence will let us know, built by us, sometime in the future, and somehow got sentback in time. They are entirely self-sustaining, with hydroponic gardens, animal pastures, machine shops, mining equipment, and the like. They are massive ships, about fourty times the length of this ship and a lot larger in other dmensions."

After five minutes.....
Macintyre returned with this message.
"I just got back from a call with the Commissariat; they feel that it is acceptable for a fleet from your nation to hold orbit over our nation for now. As for membership-they will debate this. They like it, but they wonder about how much freedom we will have to make our own decisions outside of the Republic."

As soon as he finished that, he mothined for his aide to tell the fleet that it could enter the system.
A few minutes later, Three Superdreadnaughts, three carriers, and a command carrier jumped in-system and took up orbit around the planet.
