A Clash of Nations: Fluffywuffy invades Green Sun [closed]

Trouble always gathered the Council of Ministers into conclave, and today’s meeting was no exception. Protestors carrying signs crying for a new Emperor, with slogans such as “BRING THE EMPIRE BACK--END THE COUNCIL!” and “DEFEAT THE COUNCIL’S OPRESSION--FIGHT FOR THE EMPIRE!” Throngs of protestors marched defiantly before the Imperial Palace, the meeting place of the Council, forming little knots with similar signs. Enterprising young men followed the throngs, selling lemonade, snacks, and other refreshments; still others sold signs. The multitude often stopped their activities to yell at the top of their lungs, bemoaning the Council’s power hungriness and demanding they appoint an Emperor.

Inside the Palace, the noise was annoying. The crowds were easily visible through the many windows, and the sound carried remarkably well. The keen-eared members of the Council could sometimes hear smaller, lesser, protest leaders on their soap boxes. Each one thought We’ve gotta end this. The sight and sound was terrifying these old men, and terror and power were not good things to throw together.

It was the Defense Minister, the tall, wizened, Jason McCall, who spoke first. Determination hung on his brow, and his steel-gray eyes waxed hot with anger. His words were careful, calculated to sway the fickle old men of the Council to action. “My fellow Councilmen--nay, my friends--the time has come to act. Our people march before these hallowed halls, and they cry out for an Emperor. We cannot be forced by the mobs into choosing an Emperor. We must choose with circumspection our next Emperor, and, in the meantime, we must forestall any rebellious thoughts the people have. Green Sun is a ripe target, with a small population in the throes of civil war. Our military is easily larger and better trained than theirs, and the new tactics we’ve been initiating should work wonders in this war-torn land. An insurgency is likely, and that insurgency will direct the people’s attention from us to Green Sun. It’s a win-win situation for us. We shall be allowed to take the heat off of us whilst we carefully choose the next Emperor, and we shall expand our Empire, and become great rulers in the process.”

Other men around the table nodded in agreement, while a minority shook heads. Everyone knew how a vote would turn out. And everyone knew that resistance was futile; those who voted down the resolution would probably have their projects in the future be ruined. And so a vote was called, and, unsurprisingly, it was unanimous. It was official: Fluffywuffy was marching to the dreadful drums of war.

Meanwhile, in WSTFLTCOM, Admiral Zakharii Timofeyevich was drawing up a few plans with his staff concerning Feline Catfish. War was expected to be imminent, and they had to get those nukes. “Incoming CRITIC traffic, sir. Admiral-only” was the cry of the faceless comm officer. The Admiral sat up in his seat and marched to the Hermes, the secure 128-bit encryption message system.

CODE CRITIC

MSG FOR CINC-WSTFLTCOM ONLY

Admiral Zakharii, by order of the Council of Ministers, you are to be moved to the posting of Commander-in-Chief, Green Sun Fleet (CINC-GRNSUNFLT). This posting is to include the entire West Fleet, and all the aircraft carriers, troop transports, battleships, and aircraft of East Fleet, complete with the First Army, Second Army, Third Army, Fourth Army, Fifth Army, and Sixth Army. Also, all submarines will be placed under your command. Begin planning for an invasion of Green Sun. General Henry McCarthy will accompany you in your new post on the HIM Demolisher. Launch invasion ASAP. You will have a free hand.

-Council of Ministers

The Admiral scurried out of his office to a waiting helicopter, which flew him to the HIM Demolisher, an aircraft carrier. There he drew up plans for the invasion as the fleet gathered up the massive army and steamed toward Green Sun. He had an interesting plan, and he could run it without interference. In the meantime, his massive fleet of ten aircraft carriers and hundreds of escorts rushed to Green Sun. Green Sun and Fluffywuffy being geographically close (OOC: Risban, I assume, has decided our regions are close.) meant that the trip would be over in just a day or two. And who knew what would happen then?

(OOC: Green Sun, just post something or other so that I can go ahead with the invasion. The purpose of dividing it up was to abstain from having a big-ass first post)

"Sir? I have some disturbing news," Admiral Jones said to General Homer via TeleChat.
"What is it?"
"Fluffywuffy has decided to invade Green Sun. What should I do?"
"Get every fleet ready. Let me handle everything else. If they get too close to our waters, give them a warning. teh instant tehy get in our waters, let them have it. I'll see if I can strike a deal with teh other factions."
"Yes sir."

General Homer modified his map. The FluffyWuffy fleet wouldn't be too long. Maybe a few days. That didn't give them much time. He had to reunite Green Sun. One-fourth of teh Green Sun military was fighting him...How could he get them to rejoin him? Then something clicked. UziCorp. That's tehir source. If he can get UziCorp on his side, he can reunite Green Sun's entire military force.
"Officer Kins! Get me the President of UziCorp five minutes ago! Then I want the leader of the Risbanian forces that have landed on the horn. We're going to throw everything at Fluffy. We've got our chance to reunite Green Sun."
"Yes, sir!"

General Homer studied his satellite map more. The FluffyWuffy fleet was fast. They'd be here, to his estimate, two days. That meant at most the Civil War would have lasted...One month. Longer than the last one, at least.

"I have him, sir."
"Thanks."

General Homer turned back to the TeleChat monitor.

"Chong."
"Homer."
"You've done well resisting my forces' attempts to regain control of the Archers. But now we've got a large problem, and I need those Archers."
"Well, General, you ARE using OUR satellites. We know the problem. And I know what you're thinking. UziCorp will support you as the new President of Green Sun, as long as the Royal Family, Shaku, and the Council of Theocrats say it's alright and that you don't absorb UziCorp."
"Alright. Deal. When can you announce it?"
"Now if you'd like. I'll send a message to Yillik what's going on and he'll support us one-hundred percent."
"I'll do that, thanks. And teh Archers?"
"Under your full control, general."
"Thank you. I will NOT let Fluffywuffy tell us what to say and what to think."
"Well spoken, General."

"Do you have him yet, Kins?"
"Almost, sir."
---------------------------
Today at 8:03 am, Chong Chuong, or "Kevin", the president of UziCorp, released this announcement to the public:
"In light of the approaching FluffyWuffy fleet, UziCorpis supporting General Homer in his resistance to the new threat. We ask the the Socialist Front to support us nad rejoin the rest of teh Green Sun military, as well as the seperate Anti-Homer military units. We are giving Homer the rest of our Archer missile pads. We may not be as big as they are, but we're not going to let that stop us!"

The plan was comming togethor quite nicely. If only he had just a few more assets. . . Oh well. Admiral Zakharii looked at an electronic chart on the wall of the ships Combat Information Center, where he looked at the position of the fleet. They'd be entering Green Sun waters soon, that is, if they kept going. Zakharii turned to one of his officers. "Order the fleet to strop moving. Get us in full EMCON. Send out an ELF message to our subs. You know the drill. Get moving, sailor!" The officer let out a wimpy "yes sir" before scurrying off into the bowels of the ship. Withing minutes the fleet had stopped and only the outermost destroyer pickets had their radars on. The ELF message was unencrypted, but to all but the sub captains made no sense.

My friends, it is time that we start the party. I've supplied the place, now you supply the fun. I'll bring the music once you are finished.

The NASN-01 submarines (100 of them) began their journey to the coasts of Green Sun. There were many targets which the deadly missiles of the NASN-01 could hammer, and they would smash them before the fleet became exposed to them. Each sub contained 148 cruise missiles, with an extra 149th missile that broadcasted a message to the rest of GRNSUNFLT, which in turn bounced another innocuous message back to MILCOM, and from there to the Imperial Information Warfare Division, which had never before been used. They were highly trained and highly motivated (read: paid) soldiers/hackers, and they had a special purpose.

When in place, the NASN-01s launched their deadly payload of cruise missiles at multiple targets. Many were the ordinary targets; airfields, bases, and the like which were close to the shore. However, the 42 (I counted on your map. I may be wrong, so you may or may not have like +/- one or two) Archer missile silos were specially targetted for destruction, with 20% of the missiles aimed at them, generating 3,000 cruise missiles, with ~72 per silo, some getting one more, some a few less. Afterwords, the subs began launching attacks against all Green Sun ships, merchant or warships.

Simultaneously, the Imperial Information Warfare Division launched a massive internet attack on UziCorp's bank holdings, weapons systems, and the like, in an attempt to cripple the corporation. Similar attacks struck such a diffuse group of targets as businesses, military bases, and even churches. To defend against a similar attack, the Council of Ministers (actually, a low level bureacrat acting in their stead) issued a statement ordering all network security personnel to report to work. The military also temporarily disconnected its network.

Finally, the fleet began moving once again under orders from Admiral Zakharii. The fleet was ordered to continue toward Green Sun, but with total EMCON in place. Only the many AWACS aircraft launched from the carriers went active, with the fleet listening in only to its threat recievers.

"They think they can hack ME? Hah!" Kevin laughed at the feeble attempt. They owned most of the banks in Green Sun, which kept records of everything. Kevin set up a crew of 120 counter-hackers to protect the accounts and their systems. UziCorp was not one company that was easy to cripple without contesting with it.
------------------
"They're what? That's a bit idiotic. We've got secure lines that connect our bases. They don't leave the nation. Unless tehy've got insiders, they won't be able to hack our bases or our Archers now taht we have them once again. Anyway, set up the Anti-Missile defense systems. Yes, I KNOW that they're not done, but get those that we can use online!"
"Sir! Our Buoys have detected something with their Sonar. I don't think it's a school of fish."
"Damn, they've got Whales. Alright, get all of our scrambled and hidden well. When they get too close, let 'em have it."
"Yes sir!"
"And oh, yeah. Launch our sticks. It's about time we showed the world the power of Archers."
"I thought you'd never ask, Sir."

Imperial Palace, Risban City
Admiral Tarda and General Skops had been placed in charge of monitering the Green Sun situation while the Emperor celebrated his wedding. They sat in the Situation Room of the command centre located deep within the Imperial Palace complex.
"Sirs! Sirs! We have a situation," said an aid, running over. "F-Fluffywuffy is invading Green Sun!"
"What!?" they said simultaneously.
"Not good... Not good," muttered Skops. "We need to have all forces placed on red alert."
"Get the Green Sun Royal Family and Shaku in here immediately. They will not be spending the rest of the night at a party," said Grand Admiral Tarda. "Have everyone at Fort Risban in Green Sun prepare for an attack. Someone inform Emperor Scorpius that the Consortium of Shadows is under attack."

Fort Risban, Southern Coast of Green Sun
The Risbanian Ambassador to Green Sun, Lady Alexandria O'Bannan, paced back and forth in the fort. They had just received news from Imperial Palace that Green Sun was under attack.
Green Sun had united, though... They were one. The armies would serve under General Homer. A request had been made by the Royal Family for Imperial troops in the area to serve as a martial police force while the Green Sun Military faced the enemy. Risbanian soldiers would serve to make sure that terrorist and the rebellious Green Sun Nazis would not cause too much trouble.
Lady O'Bannan sighed. These were terrible times. Full-fledged imperialism had not been witnessed in the Consortium of Shadows since World War II, when the ever-expanding and imperialistic Risban Empire had conquered the nations of Pelamor and Slade Craven, incorporating them into the imperium. Since then, the Risban Empire's imperialistic ways had slowed.

And now imperialism returned with Fluffywuffy invading Green Sun. Chaos was engulfing the world. The Grand Imperium of Risban was becoming strained. The Imperial Armies Region was suffering a civil war and now, apparently, a NATO invasion, with Risbanian territories there already being the subject to attack. Upper Xen was in a civil war, with thousands of Imperial troops there helping former President Lew. Too many conflicts... Lady O'Bannan feared that all the myserious Society of Shadows needed to do was blow up some buildings in several places and there would be a full-fledged world war, what with tensions already hot after the Feline Catfish debacle.

In Green Sun, Imperial Forces gathered under General Philip Graffias to begin safeguarding Fort Risban and maintain Law and Order in Green Sun while their military forces fought off the current invasion.
Things were getting difficult, but General Graffias was a highly experienced and skilled military veteran. He'd defend Imperial interests.

Green Sun thanks Risban for its support and General Homer has sent this message to the Government of Fluffywuffy:
"You're looking for a fight? Congradulations. You've found one. I expect to see some of the best fighting I've ever seen, as I hope you do, as well. I ask you, however, to not harm any Risbanian forces. Since we've scrambled our entire military, we're short of trrops and Risbanian Imperial Gaurds are acting as a police force as you will. We've sustained enough civilian casualties. I know we can't win this fight, but we'll go down trying."
General homer took a deep breath.
"I also wanted to ask you not to harm UziCorp or any smaller companies. They produce many of our weapons, yes, and you can hit the factories, but they're technically civilians. Hit what you want that aids us, but attacking them directly means you're attacking the people of Green Sun, both to the Government and the people, which may cause them to take up arms, and like I said, I don't want any civilian casulties."

IC:

To the leaders of Green Sun and concerned citizens:

The government of Green Sun has requested that we not target civilians in this conflict, and has requested we not harm UziCorp or similar companies. This we shall honor, but let it be known that if civilians stand in the way of victory, then they shall be slain. Should a civilian act as a human shield, that civilian will find himself providing no protection, save what protection his cold, dead, body provides in stopping bullets.

Additionally, there was a request to avoid targetting Risbanian soldiers. We will do so, but once order is reestablished at the end of the war, we request that they exit the country. At that point, they would be of little use, perhaps even inflamming violence against the Second Empire.

As for the post-war government, the Second Empire will create a transitionary government. The immediate aftermath of the war will see direct Imperial control, but as time passes more and more power will be in the hands of the people. The Royal Family will remain in place, with an as-yet undetermined place in Green Sun politics. Currently, we expect them to be honored as Princes of the Empire, members of the Imperial Court in Rexicum, Fluffywuffy, lords dedicated to the upholding of justice and equality. In the Imperial Court they shall address the needs of Green Sun, and the Second Empire shall provide. All laws in Fluffywuffy shall be applied in Green Sun, and Green Sun citizens will have full Imperial citizenship.

Admiral Zakharii shifted in his seat at the map table, still moving around wooden blocks representing both Green Sun and Fluffywuffy forces. He had a team of his officers arrayed at the other end of the table, attempting to counter his moves in this simulated wargame by playing as Green Sun. At the moment, the Admiral had taken the island off the coast of Green Sun and sunk the Green Sun fleet, paving the way to victory. He was about to invade the mainland when the intercom blared on. "Admiral, we are in position. All ships reporting in. No losses as yet. No ships spotted. Shall OPERATION SIDEWINDER commence?"
The Admiral nodded before speaking. "Yes. Commence OPERATION SIDEWINDER with all haste. Also, order the submarines to move between mainland Green Sun and the island off its coast."

OPERATION SIDEWINDER was a straightforward operation, but its immediate act was establish superiority in the air and seas. It would also attempt capturing the island off the coast of Green Sun, and would act from there. All six armies (roughly 6 million combat troops (plus 8 million logistical personnel), plus the accompanying 60,000 M-29 tanks, plus 20,000 155mm SP artillery) would land on the north-eastern section of the island, where there were no firebases. They would then sweep across the island in a two-pronged action to destroy all resistance and capture or destroy the firebases, which just so happened to be perfectly aligned to aim towards the Green Sun coast and the channel. In the channel, the submarines would slink into position and sit there, waiting to ambush possible reinforcements. Only a massive network of active sonar would find all of them, and active sonar was detectible ten times farther than it could detect you.

OPERATION SIDEWINDER was go, and so the thousands of transports set out for the island. The fleet maintained its distance, with the battleships Visgoth and Ostrogoth, battleships which fought in almost every war Fluffywuffy fought in, moved in. These would hit the beaches with their 10" guns and provide cover for troops to hide in, while killing whatever may be near them, if anything. The bases, so intel said (OOC:a.k.a. your map) were on the other side of the island. All six armies would land, and then the fight would begin in full.

((Archers are non-nuclear warheads that produce a very big boom, enough to take out two or three large ships at least. Some Archers are packed with Napalm to cause fires to prevent enemy trrop movement. And do note that I haven't posted my fleet losses yet.))
General Homer thanks Fluffywuffy for their cooperation.
------------------
Losses so far:
-Destroyers: 8
-Battleships: 9
-Carriers (40 planes each): 4
-Cruisers: 12
-Subs: 5
------------------
The submarines, hiding in full silence, opened fire on the fleets above, using their Mariner Anti-Naval missiles, which are fired either like torpedoes or Tomahawk missiles. The small but speedy submarinessped behind their foes and started to quickly spin around again for another volley.
------------------
The Battleships and Destroyers wouldn't give up without a fight. Within just a few short hours of the enemy fleet arriving in Green Sun waters, the Green Island fleet was deployed, stretching around the island.

The Fire Bases, although designed to take on ground assaults more than naval combat, aimed and fired. The distance was large and was just barely within their range, but they were able to manage. Even if they were destroyed, Green Sun was ready to fight a ground war, and even if the Green Sun military failed, the local Militias would put up one hell of a fight. It seemed that anybody who own a gun on Green Island was ready to kill teh first person to walk into their home.
------------------
Just the word was needed to fire the Archers. They were heavily armored and had the best tracking systems Green Sun could offer, not to mention some of teh best Anti-Countermeasure technology on the market. Archers were tough, but not invincible. They were build well to turn away anti-missile defenses and take a large beating, but they were designed to lose armor the closer they reached the target, but even when it was at the point of impact, the armor was still powerful. The silos that weren't heavily damaged by the blasts opened up and fired. Many people on the coast had their cameras ready to watch the first Archer Missile ever to be used in combat. This would be fun for them.
------------------
All over Green Sun, soldiers scrambled to brace for attack. Additional troops were sent to Green Island to repel enemy forces from entering Urban areas. They knew that they could torch the plains of the northern section to prevent the enemy from reaching them and they evacuated the coastal areas into the inner part, which was the best area to defend.
------------------
All of the Air Bases were put on high alert. On the coast and on Green Island, Jets were scrambled to engage the Carriers to prevent Air Strikes against Green Sun.
Green Sun jets (Without casualties): 281,250
With casualties: 281,090

IC:
"The fools! They trade time for space, as opposed to space for time." Admiral Zakharii shook his head. If he were running the Green Sun military, he would have left Green Island to Imperial forces, after destroying airfields, of course. Then he would have awaited the inevitable assault on the mainland and worked out something from there. Green Island was too easy to isolate, too easy to take, and the enemy had pitched their survival on that island. Amazing.

The staff officers around the table merely shrugged. This man was too confident, they feared, and this confidence would force the Empire to take a heavy beating. If they were in charge of Green Sun, they would have surrendered the island with no fight, also, but also mobilised the Air Force to find and harass the Imperial fleet. But they weren't in charge, and that was that.

On the ground, Imperial forces surged forward. Torched fields provided a fairly easy obstacle, one far less dangerous than combat. And so the men all hopped aboard their tanks and APCs and kept on moving, so as to maintain an advantage. A few men had been killed in the attack from the firebases, but the large artillery contingent that had followed the initial landing of light infantry was now being readied, and milimeter band radars could pick up the trail of artillery shells. Self-proppeled units countered this by the "shoot and scoot" method, but a firebase was immobile. Those firebases nearby had been targetted for immolation, and a chorus of thunder from the artillery guns provided the flames. Only a hundred casualties had been taken so far, and a dozen tanks, but that number would only increase as actual combat began in earnest.

Charging forward behind the cry of artillery were the mechanized units, rolling at full speed. The armies had split up into two groups: Army Group A, and Army Group B, each with three of the six armies. Army Group A rolled north and west, and the arced toward the south, avoiding the island's center, with Army Group B going south and east, also avoiding the center.

(This section depends heavily on what type of guidance your missiles use, including the Archers. WIll modify casualties based upon Archer guidance.) At sea, the fleet had come under heavy assault. Enemy submarines had lain in wait and ambushed the fleet with missiles, but they had not pressed their advantage greatly enough. They had fired in the general area of the fleet, not concentrating their firepower on a single area. The fleet's Outer Air Battle units began to kick in, providing the initial machine gun and missile fire wave. As the surviving missiles surged forward, the Inner Air Battle began. Every ship in the center of the fleet turned radically in random directions, throttled up, and operated just as they had before. Powerful air-defense cruisers, using Fluffywuffy's version of the Aegis system, unleashed swarms of counter-missiles and chaingun fire. The inner fleet had been saved from destruction, but the two mighty battleships, Visigoth and Ostrogoth, slide to the bottom. Similarly, an aircraft carrier slide under the waves, carrying its full compliment of aircraft with it. Another 10 destroyers shook the bottom of the ocean.

The carriers launched all of their aircraft, and the Outer Air Battle was now patrolled with thousands of aircraft, making the next potential missile strike less effective. The fleet then began its own missile strike: hundreds of destroyers launched their own cruise missiles, and ASW helicopters deployed hundreds of sonobouys. The inner fleet began active pinging to create a sort of barrier of detection, preventing the subs from getting at the carriers.

Under the seas, the submarines tightened their cordon around Green Island. Declaring the area around the island a combat zone, the subs engaged any merchant and warship they came in contact with, regardless of nationality (not shooting Fluffywuffy ships, of course). They would starve the enemy to death, and prevent him from reinforcing his lands.
Green Sun
21-05-2005, 04:13
As the APCs and tanks plowed through the burning fields, tehy sprung little undetectable fireproof wires, which allowed the Green Sun soldiers to knw exactly where their enemy was. They had no hope in the navy. They were far too outnumbered and the enemy fleet was far too experienced. Green Sun had taken many precautions to protect the urban areas themselves, and they wouldn't let a single tank get in their cities. The tanks closed in...Ten miles...Eight...Five...Three.
Two miles. Exactly where they wanted the enemy. The armored units rolled over heavy, devastating C4 landmines, causing a huge explosion per mine tripped. Teh explosions were heard in teh cities and the soldiers defending the front were ready as ever.
-----------------
The pilots got heavy fire from the ships and tehn encountered dozens, if not hundreds, of enemy jets, but Green Sun pilots were excellently trained and the Green Sun jets were sturdy as a rock. One plane took three missiles before teh pilot ejected and his plane crahsed into an enemy ship, which was well-aimed of course by the pilot. The submarines also hit their targets: Not specific fleets but damage to the enemy ships themselves. The next round would be to take out as many as possible, but for those that survived would at least be damaged, causing millions of dollars in damages. Green Sun never did put much faith in its navy, but they were doing their job.
-----------------
The Archers detected many anti-missile measures that could be used against them, but the smart systems soon realized tehy weren't being used against them. About four of the missiles launched (Out of 25) were taken down, however, by missiles directed at them, but only after a large number that weren't deflected by the Anti-countermeasures. The others flew strait and true, causing their almost-nuclear-sized blasts.
(Not as big as a modern nuke but bigger than Fat Man and Little Boy.)
-----------------
The COs of the Fire Bases waited patiently for artillery barrages or an attack. Each base were now equipped with a Patriot missile system, used for detecting missiles and Artillery, but like some of the Antimissile systems at the Archer silos, some weren't completely ready or they weren't able to track all of the shells. But for those weren't destroyed, they were still used to attack the invading ground forces...

The landmines had done their job, and had killed the leading elements of the forces that were enclosing on the urban areas of Green Island. Hundreds of tanks exploded into fireballs as the C4 explosives rocked the vulnerable underside of the tanks, and hundreds of men perished in the explosions. But the first explosions alerted the troops to the mines, and the mechanized units stopped to allow combat engineering units time to clear the mines. But that didn't stop the artillery. The artillery continued to pound the firebases and, after enough sustained fire, rolled forward, passing into already occupied areas. A warning was passed on to the civilians of the urban area to flee their homes, and an hour's time was given to allow their escape. Then the massive artillery units began pounding known enemy positions in the urban area to dust. The Second Empire wouldn't let the enemy hiding in the houses a free don't-bomb-me-with-artillery card.

At sea, yet more cruisers and destroyers slid into the waves. Thankfully, the carriers had not been destroyed, but at least fifty destroyers had been sunk in the attacks. All but the outer picket units went into full EMCON (save for the inner most units using active sonar) to lessen the chances of detection and to lessen the chances of destruction. AWACs and other aircraft flew to the Outer Air Battle area and scanned the horizon for any warships and aircraft, and if there were any, they would command the aircraft in the OAB.

With war looming with Nellisland and co., the Second Empire offered Green Sun a way out of the war:

To the Green Sun government:

The Second Empire has clashed swords with Green Sun, and Green Sun has fought honorably and valiently from the beggining. Green Sun's honor confirmed, we offer a Green Sun a choice: continue fighting the war, or surrender Green Island and end it. The choice is Green Sun's, and we will follow through with this choice till the bitter end.
