At 0600h, a fleet of amphibious transports arrived off the coast of the northern most Franz Josef Islands. These small insignificant islands belonged to Cotland, but not for much longer. When the transports got to within one mile of the coast, and within range of the coastal defences, a thunder ripped through the air as 40 B-160 (OOC:that's Tu 160's in RL) bombers swooped down low and let loose their free fall bunker buster bombs. Meanwhile, a SO-225 (modified An 225) broadcasted Twisted Firestarter by Prodigy on all TV channels, whilst Enter Sandman was on all local radio waves.
As the Marines landed, they faced heavy opposition from remaining coastal garrisons who were well dug in, and inflicted heavy casualties, however the sheer weight of numbers, and the determination of the Marines eventually overwhelmed them as the Royal Imperial Huahinian Navy claimed its first territory, even if it was only a beach head so far.
The other, much more heavily defended Islands would present a much greater threat. Cotland's armed forces had performed well in previous wars, but that would be no deterrent to the mighty Huahinian forces.
