Press Conference (Nuclear weapons thread!)

Romandeos

Prime Minister Taunja Lockeheart of the Kingdom of Romandeos brushed some lint from her suit and gave it an unnecessary straightening tug as she moved swiftly in the direction of the room where the press conference was to be held. Press conferences normally didn’t bother her, but the message she was going to deliver at this press conferred was bothering her a great deal because of how much trouble it could cause for her country. She stopped, looked herself over once, and then continued through the door into the conference rooms.

*FLASH!*

Numerous bulbs on cameras of all shapes and sizes flashed as the reporters took photograph after photograph of her, stopping only when she reached the podium. She looked out over the assembled crowd and took a deep breath before speaking.

“Good afternoon, everybody. I’m sure you all know why this press conference was called today.” She paused again. “Recently, some rumors have been circulating about weaponry technology research. I am told by my Cabinet that many news agencies in the nation have been claiming His Majesty’s Government has ordered research begun in the nuclear field. I have also been told that some people are claiming that biological weaponry research has been ordered begun recently. I am here to clear the air.”

“Are the rumors true?” one reporter called. Lockeheart looked right at him for a moment, and then looked out at the whole crowd.

“My fellow countrymen, the first rumor is, indeed, quite true. His Majesty’s Government, having decided that conventional weapons are just not enough to defend our country, will be conducting long-term research into the development of defensive nuclear weapons and ballistic missile delivery systems to carry them.”

“What about the second rumor? Is the military researching biological weapons?” asked a second reporter.

“Certainly not!” Lockeheart said before taking a deep breath to calm herself down. “I can assure you, ladies and gentlemen, that His Majesty’s Government would never pursue the biological path. Such heinous weapons are the tools of terrorists and madmen, and we are better than that here. That is all. No more questions.” With that, she left the podium.

OOC: Before you ask, ladies and gents, the press conference was broadcast all around the known world, so you can feel free to make an IC response.

Mondoth is officially disapointed that another nation has turned to nuclear weapons. If Romandeos is steadfast in this descision however we are willing to offer our own scientists to make sure that the transition to nuclear weaponry is doen cleanly and wihtout incident. also we are willing to offer Romandeos access to our uranium market, we have numerous Nuclear reactors that produce plenty of weapons grade material. And we are willing to offer Romandeos the designs for our Javelin ICTAMS delivery system.

I can assure you that His Majesty's Government would not make such a choice lightly, and so we are indeed steadfast in our decision to develop such weapons. His Majesty's Government has also authorized me to say that we of the Kingdom of Romandeos would be interested in seeing this ICTAMS system that you spoke of.

"We are alarmed by the rise in Nuclear proliferation, as shown by the development of both nuclear weapons and long-range delivery devices in the state of Romandeos."

Now I can assure the people of the world that there is nothing to be alarmed about here. Romandeos is a stable, responsible nation and has every right to take what measures are deemed necessary for proper self defense.

His Majesty's Government wishes to let it be known that it is our belief that a long-reaching attack capability is a sound defense. However, we shall not use a nuclear weapon unless provoked, and nobody shall ever purchase them from our nation.

The ICTAM delivery system has been in use for many years as the primary delivery system for strategic arms (we have one ICBM but thats not for military use) if you are familiar with the (RL) propsed space plane using SCRAMjet technology then perhaps you already have an idea of what the ICTAM is all about. Using a primary stage booster (what ever you decide to use) the missile is accelerated to a high altitude (depends on booster, ours achieves 50km) and to ignition velocity for the second stage SCRAMjet which propels the missile the final step to the edge of the Atmosphere where it skips using a very small amount of fuel to maintain course and speed until within a predetermined range of the target, from there the third stage is deployed. In this stage the missile describes a ballistic path towards a point about 2,000 km from the target. at a preset altitude the SCRAMjets will reignite and the missiles characteristics become that of the Shrike SCRAMjet cruise missile; velocity of mach six, terminal phase flight path randomization and jamming. The Javelin ICTAM missile is cheeper to build and maintain than Ballistic missiles and because of its irregular flight characteristics and integral defense measures (jamming systems can be active during any portion of the flight) it has a much higher launch to hit ratio against the various available ABM systems. also due to its relative inexpensiveness the system can be used to efficiently deploy other cruise missile loads than strategic weapons, it can efficiently be deployed with tactical weapons and other more conventional weapons.

His Majesty's Government is interested in this system. Perhaps we could work out an agreement for some testing?

certainly we can supply a small number of test systems for your use, the test/display systems have warheads that are not explosive but are shaped and weighted to simulate a strategic nuclear weapon.

His Majesty's Government has authorized me to make the arrangements for the testing, and for any financial costs we must deal with.

initial test models are free (Up to a point) with any purchase exceeding the number of test models issued. if you don't buy the full version then the test models will cost (not much though)

His Majesty's Government wishes to set up a jointly controlled test with three of the test models. If the test is satisfactory, we shall buy some of the combat models, and if not, we shall pay for the test models. Is this acceptable?

The Holy Empire of Shazbotdom is not sure if it should Condemn or Condone the aqusition of Nuclear Weaponry by the Nation of Romandeos. We though hope that you have the needed saftey equipment and you are doing it in a tripple reinforced building that, if the bomb goes off on accident, will not explode and send radioactive materials throughout the countryside of your nation.

Other than that we have no other comments.

How is it that people are so concerned about a perfectly safe and responsible nation like the Kingdom of Romandeos developing nuclear weapons? We are not a nation of fools, nor are we madmen seeking to dominate the world. That is foolishness. We simply desire to obtain the most effective means of keeping our nation free.

Government of Madnestan feels it neccesary to officially agree that statement, in public. It is known that some larger nations, not to be mentioned here by their names, have been threathening smaller countries trying to get some protection by nuclear weapons. Your nations, as well as any free country in this world ahs right to acquire whatever weapons they feel they need to protect themselves. This said, we wish best luck to Romandeus people in their attempt to gain safety by that nuclear program.

Sincerely yours,
Colonel Tamujid, the Minister of Everything

Indeed, we of Romandeos have noticed a number of nations with a "We've got a nuclear stockpile, and that's okay, but for you to have them is wrong" kind of attitude, and we are somewhat frightened by it. We see it as nothing less than an attempt at subversion, and we shall not sit by and be subverted. Romandeos shall have nuclear weapons.
