Location: Salt Creek Testing Facility, Central Astrynan Desert
It was dusk on the helepad as the Mi-26 touched down. Flanked by 4 Special Services Bodyguards, President Endac walked out of the helecopter. The Roof begain to close as the heavy bunker doors lowered into place. Darkness filled the helipad briefly as the bunker sealed shut, before the lighting went on again and lit up the helepad again. The floor begain to lower, along with the helecopter. Once it had lowered another ten feet, another blast door closed above and the floor setteled in place.
A door opened in the far wall as Colonel Yadovich of the Astrynan Corps of Engineers walked out to greet the President. "Good Evening, Mr. President," Colonel Yadovich said, shaking the presidents hand, "A pleasure for you to join us on this great day."
"If all goes as planned, this will indeed be a great day for Astryna," the president replied, as he turned to follow the Colonel, who was walking down a brightly lit corridor. His Special Services guards followed him, despite this being a military instalation.
The party came to a door marked "Command Room". One of the special services guards entered, then another. Then the Colonel and the President entered, followed by the other two guards.
The entire vast room was fully staffed as they walked out onto the balcony. A huge computer screen covered the far wall, with a countown, proceeding from 3 minutes.
The countdown ticed down in absolute silence. Just as the timer reached zero, a single voice was heard before the noise. "Boom," said a technitian occupying one of the lower workstations. Seconds later, a vast noise seemed to come from above as the facility rattled. The main sreen flichered, then showed the distinct image of a mushroom cloud.
Cheers erupted throughout the command center.
15 minutes later, the president went on regional TV.
"The federation of Astryna has successfully tested a Tactical Nuclear Warhead in the waste near the center of the country. Four more of these devices, small enough to be fired out of a long-range artillery peice, have already become operational with the Astrynan Military. Two are operated in ASM missile form by the Air Force, one is operated by the Astrynan Army in shell form, and the remaining one is operated by the navy ASW divisions in an ASROC form. We have 16 more under construction, which will be entering service in a few months. Citizens of Astryna, we are now a force to be reconed with."
Twelve hours later, when the initial shockwaves and radiation had died down, A radiation shielded helecopter took off from Salt Creek.
