Dredging a Naval Future OOC thread (recruiting)

Okay, I'll keep it short and simple. Cadillac-Gage is going to dig a massive port/canal using thermonuclear bombs placed along a faultline on their southwest coast.
The tectonic slip probably won't hurt them much, but nations immediately south of them are going to face massive, destructive, earthquakes-somewhere in the 7-to-9 catagory.

There will be two phases to this RP:

Phase One: trying to stop the project, diplomatically, possibly even militarily. The CG's don't have a whole bundle of allies that are local to their area, likely fighting would be across their border before allies could be summoned (not that the experience will be all that pleasant for an invader, mind-they may not have much of a navy, but their ground forces and air forces are competent and well-equipped.)

I'd prefer phase one stick with diplomatic pressure for as long as possible.

Phase Two: Consequences. Should diplomatic pressure fail, and the project goes ahead and blasts, consequences. triggering massive earthquakes in someone else's nation when they have asked you not to is generally considered grounds for them to beat the piss out of you.

I'll post linky-things later. I have to go to work now.

"Sighs"
I guess this isn't very interesting... or my timing is just really suckage.

I will join in, assuming these earthquakes will damage an island nations say 200 km South-South East of the area mentioned.

Let's see... if you're an island nation, there will likely be Tsunamis coming SW. BIG ones. big enough to be a serious concern for low-altitude coastal areas (areas >50 meters above sea-level), if it's on the right crustal plate, the shockwaves would definitely translate-but not so severely, figure magnitude 5 or 6, depending on the composition of the rock. Further, if said island is volcanic, it could trigger additional vulcanism in select regions.

Not quite "Atlantis", or "Mt. Pele", figure more along the lines of "Kobe Japan" mixed with a little "Indonesia 2004".

The big threat being the Tsunamis, since the blasting leads out onto the continental shelf, and subsurface slides are likely (these have been found to be a major cause of Tsunami activity.)

Oh... and Thank You!! I thought I was spitting windward entirely.

Not a problem. However, I will only be able to do this if I'm not overly busy with another RP I'm setting up. Count me in for the diplomacy at the very least.

It's a start, at least. I've got limited time and several RP's I'm involved with as well (I'm tying them in to this one if I'm allowed to, so it makes for a semi-coherent metastory). With one ally going "Imperialist" (which means trouble, since it can and probably will shatter our largest alliance without this...), Terrorists trying to influence another nation by hitting Cadillac-Gage (One airliner, one powerplant so far...), a strange archaeological discovery that's scheduled to be under-water at the completion of the operation (being investigated by insectoid non-human critters under a diplomatic 'pass'), and a Person-Level RP with Vastiva that's already gotten up around four stars, I'm really straining the small number of hours I have to play here myself. Trying to balance it all out is part of the game for me...

V: Up close, Tuiva's got the look of someone who's had life shitting on them the entire time. George, Jessica, or Ivanova will notice that her makeup doesn't quite cover the fact that she doesn't sleep much, or eat enough. The bar, (and the airstream trailer) are meticulously neat and clean. There's a picture of a healthier Tuiva, a younger Rolf, and a somewhat handsome man with an easy-grin hanging behind the bar. She's got a faded bit on her hand where the wedding ring should go (noticeable by whoever got "Shotgun" on the drive up...) and she didn't mention a husband.

(her late husband Eirik's dead, been dead for months now. an accident while logging-his saw hit a spike driven into a tree, the blade broke and slashed his throat open.)
