[Earth II] A new start

In a amazing press conference today, Emperor Thomas of Cotland announced that the Cottish Army have moved in on formerly Soviet territory, effectively assuming command. As known, the Soviet presence in Russia has been steadily decreasing while Cottish military presence on the borders have increased drastically. The Emperor said among others that this was "a new start for the people in the Soviet republics in Russia" and that the people would be given "full Cottish citizenship and personal freedoms" in opposition to the "regime of terror and oppression" that had ruled the area for a long time after "stealing the territory from the old Cottish republic" more then 130 years earlier. We will bring you more information as we get more.

The Emperor turned off the 60" flatscreen TV and turned to face his advisors, still grinning. This was the culmination of all his work for the Cottish Empire.

"How is things going in the new provinces?" he asked. The first man to respond was Field Marshall Robertson, second in command of the Imperial Cottish Armed Forces, second only to the Emperor himself.

"Sir, as you know we have a total of thirty divisions inside the new provinces.

A whole division, the ninth, have moved into Moscow itself, and are reporting light resistance. It seems like the population prefers our soldiers to the Soviet police and paramilitary that the resistance consists of. The forward elements of the division are on the red square as we speak.

The sixty-ninth, twentieth, nineteenth and eightieth divisions are moving in from Leningrad, Yaroslavl and Smolensk provinces in order to secure the areas. There we are meeting surprisingly strong resistance in form of at least one Soviet tank division who are refusing to obey orders from the interim government. They've gone rouge and will be dealt with within the hour with a full-scale assault from both the ground and the air. M1A3s, Challenger 2Es and A-10s will be the main units we will use sir.

Other then that, it is going extremely well. Very little resistance is being met, and we expect total victory within two weeks. After all sir, we are taking... 'liberating' a lot of territory. But we will acheve total victory!"

The field marshall was very hyped on the taking, and he was most likely correct. The Cots were throwing in two full army groups and a lot of air power in taking the land. It would be one of those events that really shaped a nations character. And the people would get even more loyal to their Emperor. The same emperor who had returned a lot of the former Cottish Empire to Cottish rule over the past five years. Who knew where it would end?

OOC: Will RP the battle in Tver later tonight. This is just a teaser.

The opposition looked like a standard home guard division used in the Soviet nations based on the intel gathered from the RQ-9A Predator B UAV. 300 T-90s, 150 BMP-3s and 15 000 men. Facing this was four Cottish divisions, with more then 600 tanks, 2000 IFVs, 6000 APCs and 100 000 highly trained soldiers just to mention some of the equipment. Protecting the divisions from the skies were 54 A-10 Thunderbolt IIs, 12 B-8A Vulcan II heavy bombers (armed with Mk-82s) and 120 F-22A Raptor fighters.

At 05.20 hours, the Cottish attack on the Soviet camp started with 72 M270A2 MLRS units firing a total of 2880 high-explosive rockets at the enemy, followed closely by a barrage from the 155mm M2001 Crusader cannons. After a short barrage of 6 minutes, bombers came over and bombed the living daylights out of the area with a total of 480 Mk-82 "dumb" bombs. Then when the smoke started to settle, the Cottish tanks started to roll in. They were followed by IFVs and some APCs carrying soldiers.

A group of twenty M1A3 Abrams and Challenger 2E tanks manouvered in between burning T-90s and fired 120mm SABOT rounds towards anything that still moved, and mowed down the surviving enemy soldiers. Their orders were clear. Take no prisoners, and don't let anyone escape. Even when the soldiers tried to surrender, the Cottish soldiers shot them down. Preferably at point blank range with M45A1s in the head. This was standard practise in the Cottish army when dealing with terrorists, rioters, traitors or other rouge elements.

The battle was over before 07.00 with minimal Cottish losses. Just in time for the Emperor to be told about the battle over the breakfast two hours later. But there were one more division to deal with in the enclave between Leningrad and Smolensk. Nevertheless, the Cottish soldiers would be all over the area very quickly. Resistance would be eradicated within three days.

Three days after the annexation started...
Major Powter looked down at the scene below him. The steppe was filled with burning steel hulls, which had been T-90 tanks and BMP-3 IFVs, and some M1A3 Abrams tanks and M2A3 Bradley IFVs, just a few hours earlier. Now, there were only one Soviet battalion left to destroy, and for that the ground troops had called in Major Powter and the rest of his squadron of A-10 Thunderbolt IIs. Now, the Thunderbolts were busy strafing the area with their powerful 30mm GAU-8/A Avenger cannons and firing 2,75" rockets from their Hydra rocketpods, destroying T-90s and BMP-3s while taking moderate amounts of small-arms fire from surviving ground forces.

This was the third armoured division that the Cots destroyed, and the last according to the satellite photos and RQ-9A Predator II UAVs. The second division that the Cots destroyed was during the previous night, using two squadrons of B-8A Vulcan IIs armed with Mk-84 bombs. When the surviving units had attempted to escape, they had entered a deadly crossfire from Cottish anti-tank squads armed with Javelin systems and AH-64 and AH-66 attack helicopters armed with AGM-114 Hellfires. Less then 30 Soviet soldiers survived that attack on a division numbering 18 000. And those survivors had been detained and questioned severely by Cottish interrogation experts.

With this, the Cots had effectively returned control of the areas of Tver, Novgorod and Pskov, albeit with some casualties. Nevertheless, the taking of these territories gave the Cots a broad front against the nation of WIck and, more importantly, more historical Cottish territory back to the fatherland.

The Cots had also taken control over Moscow, and the central governments codes. Now, they were using those codes to send out orders to all Soviet units still active in Russia to maintain the law and order, and when the Cottish soldiers came: stand down and relinquish their weapons and territory to them. A victory parade was scheduled to take place at the Red Square in Moscow in two weeks. Some important information would also be announced to the world then by the Emperor.

Eleven days after the annexation...
Now, the 3rd Army Group stood at the banks of the Black Sea. The harbor city of Rostov had been surrendered by the local Soviet forces, and things there were great. Now, they just had to convince the population that the Cots were their friends, and that they too were Cots now. With all the duties and liberties that included. And they were just starting now by giving out free medical treatment, flying in new businesses to create employment, building new schoold, improving the curricculums, etcetra. Those little things like satsifying the basic needs of the people, and then adding more to choose from, really helped the population to grow fonder of the Cottish government. But it was a long-term plan, intended to be completed in 10 years.
