The SOMI are the backbone of the Sigma Octavus war machine. They are a staple in all conflicts we take part in. They are the police of the nation, as well as it's weapon.
In times of peace, SOMI are used as national peacekeeping units, working in squads of 5 to 10 soldiers. They deal with anything from quarrels between people to attacks from Sigma Octavus Liberation Initiative (SOLI) and rebel forces. Anti-terrorism is taught to all fresh SOMI throughout their entire 4 year stay at the military academies scattered across the nation.
All SOMI use the native made SOMIR-4b assault rifle, which uses special 8.32mm ammunition. The rifle is built with burst and single fire settings, and has a standard clip of fourty rounds. The rifle has an optional grenade launcher or shotgun attachment, which is really up to the soldier on what they want to use. A scope is built into the rifle, which can be wirelessly connected to the helmet of the SOMI's HUD.
In each squad of SOMI, there is at least one soldier carrying an anti-tank rifle or missile launcher. They provide the needed anti-armor if a squad of SOHAI or other forms of support are lacking at the time.
Their armor is the result of decades of experimentation and field use. At first the armor was simply padded clothing, but has since progressed to lightweight anti-ballistic materials and layered ceramics. The armor is lightwieght and fully protecting. Due to the weather and climate of our desert nation, the armor has full heating and cooling systems in place, as well as all things needed for a single soldier to stay alive for up to two weeks on their own. All of these (minus the climate systems) are located in the pack attached to the back of the armor.
All SOMI have a obligatory service of four years at an academy and six years ion the field. They have the option of remaining in the service at the end of their full ten years, but can leave if they so wish. All retiring SOMI gain a retirement fund that has been kept by the government since they joined. This fund is often upwards of 240,000 sigs, fully more than enough for them to establish themselves back into society. If the SOMI dies while in the service, the fund is then used by the military.
SOMI can be nearly any race found within the nation. Be they human, elven, neko, etc. they can join the SOMI.
SOMI training is among the best given to base level infantry in the world. While not rivaling that of more advanced levels of both our country and other country's militaries, a SOMI is a lethal opponent both armed and unarmed. Taught a Sigman martial art known as Desert Viper (emphasising quick, deliberate strikes to vital areas), they can easily kill with their bare hands. They are also taught how to fight with a knife, club and other weapons. SOMI marksmanship and gun handling are the most stressed areas taught at the academies. They are taught how to use and maintain all weapons developed in the nation, and can learn about other weapons of the world at the many collection centers around the country.
Their credo of "My country is my life. It's protection is my duty" is a phrase that is commonly used even by none SOMI in the nation. It has come to be a sort of national motto.

The SOET are the special forces of the military. They are the pride of our great nation.
The SOET are selected at the age of five as the best of the best. They are taken from their families (who recieve compensation from the government) and taken to a secret facility deep in the deserts of the nation. There, they train until they come to the age of 18, when they are finally unleashed, wielding the greatest training, minds and equipment the nation has seen.
SOET are the subjects of physical augmentations, increasing their speed, strenth, sight and reflexes. This is the factor that makes them such powerful weapons.
SOET armor is lighter than SOMI, but provides greater protection. SOET armor uses better materials than SOMI armor, and provides greater mobility and protection. Less provisions are used in the SOET armor, as they have greater survival training and can survive off of the land.
Combat is where the SOET truly shine. Trained to rival and overcome some of the more powerful soldiers on earth, such as the Sentinels, the SOET are a force to be feared. They are trained to take get in close to an enemy without being hit. They utilize any cover they can to get at their target. They prefer close combat weapons to ranged, but are proficient with both. Normally, their favorite weapons are two blades of varying size, with which they know a total of five styles specifically for the blades.
SOET spend as much time as possible on the field, retiring only when they become physically incapable of carrying out their missions. They undergo training on blending into non-military society so that they can undertake urban stealth missions, but also so that they can go to life amongst civilians when they retire. Without this training, they would be incapable of leading non-military lives, a problem that was encountered with the first generations of SOET.
SOET can carry almost any weapon into battle. They most often stick with a special rifle designed personally for the SOET at an early age. These weapons have most often undergone extensive augmentations, making no two rifles the same. These weapons are an extension of the SOET, in both the mental and physical worlds. They grow attached to this rifle, as well as the blades, over time, loving them as siblings.
SOET can often be seen with custom paint jobs and augmentations on their armor, dependant simply on whether or not they feel like doing so. Some will paint animal designs on their helmets, while others will write phrases onto their armor. The occasional SOET will remove pieces of armor that they do not need, and go into combat under armored. This practice is often discouraged, but some SOET insist and go ahead anyways.
The SOET are very capable killers. The are used in both battles and special missions. The SOET chosen for special missions are often decided by gender, depending on which can get closest to their targets. In whatever way is needed. On battlefields, the SOET will disappear from the field for hours at a time, only to pop up in the middle of an enemy holding, weapons blazing and bombs detonating.
SOET are fully trained in demolitions, learning how to pick out key points in structures that they can use to collapse the structure. They can also make several types of home made explosives. A single SOET once managed to take out an entire city block without having any explosives before getting there.
The credo of the SOET is "Shrug death aside and push forward. My enemies die, and I live to kill another day. Death before submission." This can best describe the SOET mind set at times. SOET have known to berserk, often killing entire squads of enemy soldiers with whatever weapon they can get their hands on.

The SOHAI are the tanks of the infantry. They can take huge amounts of punishment and dish out even larger quantities.
SOHAI armor is incredibly heavy and restricting, but can take near any round and shrug it aside. Many types of armor-piercing weapons have failed to puncture a SOHAI's shell. They are not equipped to last for too long on their own, and require the most logistics of any infantry.
SOHAI are taken from the ranks of the SOET as they pass through their academy days, most often around the age of 13. SOHAI undergo more augmentations than SOET, increasing their muscle mass and speed. They often carry upwards of 200 pounds of equipment, and simply wouldn't be able to move very well without the augmentations. They can run to some extent, but do better standing still.
SOHAI are equipped with miniguns and missile launchers. The specially made minigun used by the SOHAI can fire 3000 rounds a minute, firing armor-piercing explosive rounds, capable of tearing a building in half under sustained fire. An SOHAI will carry anywhere between 2,000-10,000 rounds of ammunition in a specially made pack. This pack has a four tube missile launcher attached, which can be fired from over the shoulder of the SOHAI.
The SOHAI are not as widely known of as the other infantry branches, but could take both in a straight out fight. SOHAI are mainly used to take out enemy armor, troop locations and field bases. A SOHAI always bring death and chaos wherever they go, and just their presence has been known to cause an enemy to surrender.
Their credo of "There are none that can defeat me. I will defeat all" tells what their mindset is. They think of themselves as invincible, and often prove this assumption.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v335/Snow_Fall/Characters/group.jpg
These three types of infantry work together very well, but can work independently of each other.
SOHAI most often support several squads of SOMI at once, laying down covering fire and providing anti-armor support. SOHAI can also be quick dropped into the battlefield on their own to hold down strategic points. The entire drop process takes roughly six seconds if it goes without a hitch.
SOHAI are very group oriented, being placed in a group of four for training and then kept in that same group for their entire service. They build bonds that other soldiers lack, creating an incredibly effective squad of soldiers.
SOET rarely work with SOMI and SOHAI any more than letting them know where the SOET are located, so as to reduce the risk of friendly fire. SOET are notoriously independent but will eventually find themselves fighting shoulder to shoulder with their comrades.
A SOET are trained to not depend on others, as mistakes can be made. SOHAI trust other SOET with their lives, but work on their own very well. A squad of SOET are slower moving than a single SOET, but can get more accomplished. They know the value of teamwork, but also know that there can be downfalls involved.
SOMI rely heavily on others, lacking the training of SOET and SOHAI. Most often they have armor and air support on call. When several squads are working together, SOHAI and SOET are more likely to be assigned with them. Without support, they can hold their positions, but often find it hard to advance if the enemy is well dug in.
(OOC: I didn't draw these. Even though I wish I had. I'm going to an art college...I should probably draw something.... Anyways, not my art. Not taking credit. Just erased some things and tacked in some text.)
